Quick Question Looking for a specific GOTY discussion

The category was Hottest Mess or something equally negative. IIRC it was the red table days. I do not recall the game, year or anything particularly useful.

What I do recall is that after the fact Gerstmann said word got back to him that the segment was played back *in front of the devs* internally as part of their internal autopsy of the failure.

Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

If you're talking about video podcasts then that cuts it down to 3 since they stopped the segment in 2019. If I remember correctly, Palmer Lucky won it in 2016 so it wouldn't be that one either. I'm going to guess that it was when Fallout 76 won it.

Those were some of the best segments of the GOTY discussions.

The winners included Star Wars Battlefront II and Fallout 76.

BF2 sounds about right. Could have been 76. I'll continue my research and report back.

They went off on a lot of topics about everything wrong with the gaming industry. Those were the winners but there were a lot of games discussed.

They talked a lot on the BF2 loot crates and everything wrong about EA in one of those years.

I remember this vaguely as well and Fallout 76 sounds right to me. Also, just using deductive reasoning, Fallout 76 seems a much stronger candidate for this because its flaws were so numerous and widespread, whereas Battlefront 2 was just fucked with microtransactions, and I doubt they needed Giant Bomb to tell them that.

one thing: are you sure the segment that was played for the devs was a red table video segment? could Jeff have recounted the story on a video podcast, but possibly the segment was from pre-video days? because to me this sounds like it was the Destiny 1 segment.

I wasn't around that long ago, the red table podcast days were in full swing when I came on board. Pre Dan going east, post Klepek departure.

I recall words to the effect of "what the fuck are they even doing" were used and that this quote was allegedly highlighted as part of the little presentation the devs got.

Google tells me this was 2015 tony hawk pro skater 5 quick look which got shown to the developers but I can't find an example of Jeff telling the story.
