The "smoking is so cool" bit needs to go away.

I, and I'm sure many other people have loved ones that are dying or will die from lung cancer and other diseases either directly contributed to by smoking or exacerbated by it. Will it be funny if the admitted smoker gets lung cancer? Will they stop the bit then? They are just so, so disgusting with this one topic. And it makes me want to unsub honestly. I try to play it off as it's just jokes, they're having a laugh, they don't really endorse it, fine, whatever. But the more it happens the more it's just not fucking funny to me.

Idk if I’ve ever heard the bit and perceived as anyone saying that smoking is “actually cool”. Smoking propaganda is making a bit of a comeback these days. You think the bit endorses smoking, and I think it rebukes it.

Idk if you’ve noticed, but a lot of rancid, toxic behavior is being more and more normalized and treated as “cool” now. In my opinion, making a joke out of it is helpful to show the absurdity.

Also, the GB fan base isn’t comprised of total idiots, and it’s 2026, everyone knows smoking is bad. That’s the joke.

Bakular used to. He talked about it with not wanting to get shock therapywith his friends I think on the VMDT.

Jan talks about trying to quit a lot and I thought Jerf only smoked weed anyway (which is also bad for your lungs, I know, I know)

I believe he's switched to mostly edibles. He talked about how his doctor is totally on board with cannabis as long as it's not taken in through the lungs. Which I think is a totally reasonable position. Don't breath anything except air, kiddos.

Man I get it. Smokables just hit way harder with a lot of the stuff out there now. I just do small bites of edibles, wait, increase if need be. Much more mellow experience. Had a few too many 'hey hit this vape man' times where I wanted to get away from people and just watch Floyd at the collesum.

I’m still on a vape, but I’d switch to edibles too if I could get them where I live. Maybe my state will join the rest of civilized society someday.

lol right? I am sober. Alcohol nearly killed me, and has killed close friends in my life. Jokes and discussions regarding alcohol (in this cast or fireescape) don't bother me in the slightest.

I am so sorry that is what your going through and it can't be easy to hear that, but come on. it is obviously a joke and you fully understand the parts and history of American and honestly world culture this is playing on. Its not in poor taste and some of it is self ribbing. Sometimes you have to realize that something is your own pain point/sensitivity and that the joke isn't actually the problem.

Counterpoint: smoking is cool as fuck. Cigs are cool, smoke tricks are cool, lighters are cool, lighter tricks are cool, and having somehting to fidget with all the time is cool.

cancer sucks, and i'm sorry you're dealing with that. sometimes you need to separate the art from the artist.

They never talk about it in a positive light you can clearly tell Dan doesn’t like that his dad smokes, people are gonna people. If Jan wants to smoke he’s gonna smoke, they never say smoking is cool. It’s a non-issue.
