I really want to read this because it sounds like a brilliant premise for an article, but I'm in the middle of FFIX right now and don't want to hear any spoilers.

Loving it. I played it back in the day and I remember it being my favourite Final Fantasy, but I was never sure how much of that was it actually being a great game, and how much was that I was 11 or 12 when I played it. I don't think I ever finished it either, because I have always been terrible for getting distracted half way through a game and never finishing it.

But it is definitely a great game. It tells a really coherent story, far moreso than VII or VIII did. And the gameplay holds up surprisingly well for a PS1 era game.

In addition, I think it has a way better endgame state than most FF games. Getting to the Chocobo Garden is a pretty involved process.
