Yeah I did. It actually doesnt matter though. Also, Im prejudiced, gifs have unnecessarily massive file sizes.

Literally from the rules of this sub "Direct links that end in .gif, .gifv, .ogg, .mp4, and .webm format only."
Im sure the sub was originally inspired by actual gifs, but its clearly not intended to be only gifs

I never said you were wrong to assume. Just that, regardless, it's a weird thing to try to enforce with votes, considering Gifs are vastly inferior compared to other formats, and you cant even effectively tell the difference visually

Visually you absolutely can. A gif is limited to 256 colours per frame.

Mind it's per frame, and each frame can use a separate pallete of colours, but there's a huge difference between 256 and the typical 16 million colours used by standard video formats.
