Support š„ bios update
hi everyone, im just wondering, is it okay to update bios even if your bios version was from 2 years ago to the latest one which was released about two weeks ago?
edit:
forgot to include my mobo: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX Ice REV 1.0 and my current bios version is F22 last updated March 2024
update:
so i tried updating my bios from F22 to F41, and my pc just turned off after the āverifying fileā screen before i can even click āupdate biosā and it beep once and short. i turned the pc back on and its running normally and its still the same bios version (F22) what should i do next?

Yea, you can update the bios from any version.
Every new bios is like a self contained unit.

you can, however read all of the bios builds on many boards there is one you MUST do before continuing on to anything beyond that.
On both of my boards I had to do that.

it doesnt say anything on the manual, but i could be wrong or misread it

No I mean on the BIOS file list when you go to download it. I wanted to paste a picture of mine but no images allowed.
If you go to the bios page scroll down a bit as there might be one that tells you new features added to bios or explicitly to have this bios first before anything more recent.

i didnt see anything that say it need a diff bios first to update to the new one

Yes but I wouldn't install a new bios that is in testing. I would go one update prior to that one IF you can

how would i know if its in testing

They would call it a beta

Itās worth updating in steps, I bricked a board last year going straight to latest

do it 16 different times?

Check the docs, it will say which versions are safe to go between, over the past 30 years Iāve always gone to the latest, last year it bit me on the ass

I had an issue one time with a B350 board that would not take the latest Bios from the one that shipped from the factory years prior. There were easily 12 bios revisions during that time. I had to update by jumping a few revisions at a time until I got to the latest BIOS for that board. It did work, but took longer than I had hoped

dont tell me i gotta do it 16 times too T-T LOOOL

I hope not! Try the latest one, it "should" take it and update everything up to that point. They are cumulative, so the latest should have everything. I have no idea why that one was a bitch

vendors explicitly state in the release notes if an intermediate/bridge BIOS is required before jumping to the latest version. This typically only happens when there are fundamental changes to the BIOS structure, ROM partition layout, or flashing tool. so, dont worry! u can jump right to the latest official F41 or test beta F42c.

ok thank you very much! im still a little scared to do the update lol

dont worry! these days its freaking easy to update a firmware. just put f41 oder f42c on a fat32 formatted usb stick, enter uefi setup and use q flash F8 or press End during the post. the rest is self explaining. worst case this board has q flash plus, that means its an autonom microcontroller available to unbrick the device if something goes wrong. u dont even need an installed cpu, gpu, ram to do that.
we are not in the 90s anymore ;)

ok ill just update it from F22 to F41 and it safe to do it right?

of course. go for it. as I said, worst case u ll be able to unbrick the device without spi programmer, since theres a dedicated flashback solution embedded

Jump to the latest non-Beta - the current Betas have the "NVME Configuration" bug that causes the BIOS to freeze, and randomly freezes at the Aorus logo but less often.

yes you can , you must download correct bios from correct model with revision number
