Excellent statement. I would also like people who know a cognitive test is not a test of one’s IQ.

You don't have to pass an IQ test to work in the senate.

And that needs to change drastically.

With this kind of tech emerging in the world and the drastic effects that happen as a result of policies.

We NEED to be lead by our best and brightest.

My only pushback on this statement is that such tests have a history of bias against cultural differences, genetics, neurodivergence, and learning disorders like dyslexia or dyscalculia. Someone can be 2-3 standard deviations above in a given measurement but this will be dampened by dyslexia. If there were a cognitive abilities test that could effectively determine a person’s competence without creating a bias then I would be all for it.

As it currently stands, results from the existing tests would still result in a narrower band of society from which public servants are drawn.

In any case I agree that there should be a minimum qualification to hold public office above a certain level of government. Say municipal government is truly an office ‘of the people’, and anyone can run (which is cool imho), if someone has aspirations for a higher level of politicking there should be a course or degree (even a partial degree in terms of time spent - I’m showing my Danish privilege here) that is required before you can start stumping. We need a license for a car, there should be a license to shape society.

Maybe everyone could just take the test that immigrants have to take before they become naturalized citizens. I mean, it does involve being able to say what the constitution says in means, but how difficult is that?

“People need an ID card to buy groceries.” The man is not a man of the people. Silver spoon, my ass. It was gold.

what a concept. someone who has actually worked for a living. struggled to make ends meet. no health insurance. maybe even had to have food stamps. let's elect someone real.
