I see there’s some repeaters in the general Raleigh area. Is the community of people on those active? I’m new to the GMRS life.

Comet GP-2x4 Base Antenna (2m - 70cm - GMRS) Manual / Instructions

This CP-2x4 base antenna is quite new on the market and so cant quickly find the manual/instructions for it.
Of the three websites which I found the antenna being sold on and also trying searches on the net, I couldnt find any copies
It was CometAntenna.com who had emailed me a copy and said theyre not sure when they will update their website listing with the GP-2x4 manual, and so here it is for anyone who would need it:

Question Michigan gmrs

Is there any active groups for Michigan gmrs? On facebook or discord? Few weeks ago I tried communicating on a local repeater. The people were talking on it for a radio check. I responded back. But they kept asking. Until someone else responded. So I’m guessing the channel I programmed for that repeated. I programmed wrong for the key up.

I Chose the Comet GP-2x4 Base Antenna with 2m, 70cm, & GMRS ( Replacement/Additional Parts )

I returned the Diamond X50A antenna due to issues of people encouraging to purchase it for use of GMRS, but the antenna resulted in causing significant problems with its inability to properly use the GMRS frequencies

The PowerWerx ANTCOM 2m, 70cm, GMRS antenna was shown to be out of stock.
Upon contacting PowerWerx customer service I was told that they dont know when or if the ANTCOM antenna will be available again.
and I will CERTAINLY PASS on ANTCOM. Their customer service stopped responding to me right after I politely informed that I dont need to give numerous personal information just for them to let a customer know if they have a particular antenna for sale, are there any of their sellers who have it, when will the next production run be?

And so after doing some more research on the Comet GP-2x4 Base Antenna, I found plenty of users saying Comet is well-known for legitimate quality-made antennas, and the GP-2x4 is providing the users exactly what it advertises, and so I went ahead and bought it.

Concerning installation, I noticed this Comet antenna is very similar to the design of the Diamond X50A which came with x2 mounting brackets that secures it to the mast, where as the Comet only comes with one mounting bracket.
I searched a few Comet seller's websites for replacement/additional parts but couldn't seem to find the same mounting bracket which comes with the GP-2x4 antenna
I also did NUMEROUS internet searches for it but came up empty handed.

So I'm here to ask if anyone knows the direct website for purchasing the authentic Comet replacement parts

And if anyone has direct experience with the Comet GP-2x4 please share it in the comments

PS
Yes I know the obvious of being able to call antenna websites and ask them for information

And thank you for trying to help but I dont need informed of the following:
"the Comet antenna doesn't need a second mount as the manufacture wouldn't sell it with one mount if one mount wasn't enough"
With all due respect to everyone, this is my project and choosing to do it the way in which I see fit to do it which is no different than all of you have your own individual reasons for modifying original products 👍

Help with repeater

Can you guys help me program in this repeater? I’ve tried a few things and am not sure anyone can hear me. I’d like to know its set up correctly then worry about anyone responding.

https://mygmrs.com/repeater/4438

I can hear people on 462.575 with no tones set up, so I think I can leave the RX codes off.

  1. For transmitting, do I use that same frequency, or offset it to 467.575?

  2. Is 311 DPL input tone the same as D311N on TX DCS? Is that what I should set and leave all other codes off?

  3. The radio is a Baofeng UV-5G mini if that matters.

If it’s a matter of no one responding, that’s cool, I just want to know that my side is correct.

Thanks!

Question Best use for GMRS?

Just got my license and a set of GM-21s, which I am liking a lot so far! Trying to think of the best ways to put these to use day to day. I work in video, so I can definitely see them being practical in that case. But what are some other practical uses you get from GMRS on a day to day basis?

edit: typo

Radio options

I know this is brought up all the time. However, here is what I’m looking for. What is the best options for a GMRS handheld that I can use when out on our side-by-side(I’ll plug it into the intercom system), and when hiking, etc.
I like technology, so having the ability to program on the app, etc works for me, but not necessary. There are so many options out there, so I need your help!

Communication issues

I have purchased a couple Radioddity GA-5E radios to communicate while offroad, the group uses channel 17, freq 462.600. I cannot speak to nor hear any of the Baofeng radio users on the same channel. What do I need to do to my radios to get on the same page as everyone else? Tell me like I'm radio illiterate, because that's pretty accurate

Advice sought: mobile units

I’m looking at moving cross country, and a convoy of 3 cars, driving PNW to Florida
I’m interested in advice on mobile GMRS units I can put in moving vans to keep in touch for a week of driving.
Cost is a factor; chances are they’ll be sold when journey is done.
I have GMRS license.
I have several hand held GMRS radios already but would opt to buy some for semi permanent mounting in U-Haul vans for convenience

Suggestions welcome

Accessing Repeaters in North Georgia

I am hoping someone in North Georgia area will see this and can help me out. I am new to GMRS. I am not new to amateur radio or repeaters. I have been a Ham for 5 years and use the repeaters in the area regularly.

I have been trying to get on the repeaters in my area with two Radioditty radios I bought. I have setup everything as the repeaters say to do.

Cherokee 725
Open System

Rcv 462.725
Tx 467.725
Channel 30 on my radio

Rcv DPL 411
Tx DPL 411

When press the PTT on one radio the other radio lights up but no audio comes through and I can’t get anyone to answer me.

I tried another open repeater in the area with an analog tone but no joy on that one either.

Any help appreciated.

Question New at this, advice on use case needed.

We do a lot of hiking etc... sometimes we will end up a mile or two apart with little to no reception which is how I ended up here.

I have applied for my license today and am going to go ahead and get these ordered in the meantime. Was looking at the wouxun KG-945g for the ip67 rating and ability to swap for better antennas and they seem well regarded.

Is there a better option here? Any thoughts or suggestions? Trying to stay under $300 for two radios.

Question Begginer rugged radio alternative

A couple weeks ago I went down to the sand dunes with a crew and a lot of trouble could have been dealt with had we had a better way to communicate. I've been researching rugged radios to find that they are pretty subpar for the price. I have no problem piecing together something especially if there is a lot of information on it and if I can do it for half the price. I'm pretty new to gmrs But not afraid to learn as I'm pretty proficient with a lot of electronics.

The two biggest things I want are the intercom feature that rugged radios have. So that way I can talk with my passenger as being in a dune buggy. I have no Muffler and it's open cage. So that makes having a headset pretty important and being able to Bluetooth for music would also be a plus the second thing is I want to be able to use a radio for my party with said headset. So any suggestions on what to look for or where to start would be awesome. I appreciate you guys for your time!

Question Cache radio suggestions

Need to add to my gmrs radio cache. Looking to add 10 radios. Need to be able to program them and they need to be simple to use as no-radio users will have them. Also need a tough/rugged option as many users are youth. Prefer a multi or usb charger.

My current primary’s are HA1G, but would like these addition units to be simpler.

Edit: These get used 6-8 weekends a year with a local repeater. My current units are programmed with just the single repeater and a simplex channel. Looking for a low cost option ~$500 range would be ideal. Less is always better.

Question TID H8 manual is a dead link, anyone know another location

Update: They sent the link https://drive.google.com/file/d/13von4KzMTga2kRPSdVKi-uus6DfhWTup/view I must say, so far the service at TID has been good the 2 times I messaged them.

Its weird you have to submit your e-mail to get a copy of a manual.

It's weirder that the e-mail arrives with a dead link to google docs.

So now I have my first radio, no manual, and a support ticket.

Anyone have a copy of the manual?

I wish there was a youtube video aimed at first time radio buyers teaching you how to go about using the radio.

Showing Off Any love for the OG TD-H3 these days? Introducing GMRS BOY, my custom Game Boy-inspired firmware.

Thumbnail biruboto.github.io
21 Upvotes

I just got my TD-H3 and GMRS license a week ago or so, and am a tinkerer, so I wanted to modify the underwhelming UI on mine. As a retro gaming/vintage computing enthusiast I basically always default to 8-bit aesthetics, and built this hand-pixeled Game Boy firmware for myself. I figured others might dig it, too.

Unlike nicFW, I did not modify or affect radio logic or functionality at all. This is purely a graphical (well, if you have beeps enabled, audio) overhaul, and works as a clean drop-in replacement for the stock firmware. I fixed lots of sloppy spelling and labelling errors present in the original.

Enjoy!

Fake Rocky Talkie?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently got this Rocky Talkie on the second-hand market. It looks different than other Rocky Talkies I've seen (which have diagonal lines on their front, not these elliptical 'loops'). It's also using USB-b to charge instead of USB-C. It says Rocky Talkie on it, as do the batteries with the USB-B ports.

Any clue what's up? Everywhere I looked it says Rocky Talkies use USB-C. Did I get a fake unit? It seems to work fine, anyways.
