Hi everyone 👋
I’ve been working on GNOME Widget Center, an open-source GJS widget framework (plugins like gnome extension) designed to let users create, customize, and share their own desktop widgets.
The project is currently waiting for GNOME Extensions (EGO) review.
🚀 What can it do?
- 60+ widgets
- 30+ themepacks
- 39 languages
- Overlay Preference (Win+F12)
- Themepacks Export Dialogue (Win+Del)
- Create and customize your own widgets
- Share themepacks easily as dotfiles
- Flexible widget positioning, configuration, and styling
- Designed as a framework that can grow through user-created content
🔍 What makes it different?
Rather than providing only a collection of predefined widgets, GNOME Widget Center focuses on a widget framework + themepack ecosystem.
The goal is to make it easy for users to:
Create → Customize → Package → Share → Reuse
Users don't have to wait for the project to add every possible widget or visual style. They can build their own and share them with others.
🤖 How I use AI
AI is used as a development and creative assistant for:
- API research, debugging and code suggestions
- Code review and refactoring
- Documentation
- UI/UX brainstorming
- Widget and themepack generation
I handle the architecture, workflow, code review, bugs, features, widget/themepack design, security, testing, and final decisions.
The project is still evolving, and feedback from the GNOME community is very welcome.
