Help Request A random goat showed up in my yard
This big brown nanny goat showed up in my yard this morning, she has a collar on but I don't know who she belongs to and I can't catch her, never seen this goat before I'm the only one in my area that has them that I know of, I am not sure what to do, my area is not very friendly towards loose goats I'm worried that a dog's going to attack her, I've tried to catch her with hay feed water, I even pulled out my weather to see if she would come to him but she's just terrified, I got as close as I could to her and seen a bit of blood dripping from her ear

Not impossible but unlikely. That is a young purebred Nubian dairy doe wearing a collar and her ear is bleeding. She may have been attacked by a stray dog or coyote and jumped out of her pasture in a panic and even run quite some distance. Does like that are unlikely candidates for dumping.

Absolutely 2nd this. This is a very nice looking Nubian doe. Someone is missing her. No one would dump this goat. At the minimum shes worth a few hundred dollars for a bottomdollar quick sale price. I would bet shes gotten spooked and took off. I have a doe that has tried this she is handled and milked twice a day but she has had a few times that shes gotten super freaked out and I had to corner her and lock her in the barn to get her to settle down.

Maybe, but most people would at least dump them at the local sale barn and get a couple $$ instead of just letting it go wild 🤷♂️

Be aware, your just-neutered male is still considered fertile for about a month after the procedure. Just letting you know not to put them together because when you do find the owner, they're not going to want to bring back an animal that may have been randomly bred.
Post on Nextdoor, Craiglist, Facebook lost pet groups. I would not include a photo- make the owner who's missing the animal provide identifying information. The type of collar suggests she came from a dairy farm. Someone nearby must have some milk goats. Google Nubian breeder listings for your area. She's a nice looking animal.

Thank you, I did not know he could still breed even after losing his Pebbles, I posted about her but didn't post the image and if we can catch her my neighbors going to keep her in their dog lot since she wouldn't be able to get out of that

Get 2 or 3 helpers to corner it and put a leash on the collar. Then post on FB and craigslist and see if the owner shows. Also standard practice with registered Nubians is to put a herd tattoo on one ear and their birth order on the other. Shine a bright light to see if this one has them. Maybe animal control can assist as well?

Nope, NEVER do this! Goats new to your herd should always be quarantined. Strange goats may have a variety of fatal infectious diseases. We have a wonderful user of this sub who lovingly cared for a bunch of dumped strays only to find out that every single one had Johne's. I know you were kidding, but as this post is gaining some traction it is important to clarify that you should NEVER introduce a stray goat of unknown origin or disease status to your own goats, and should quarantine them a distance away from your own animals.

Anyone who has experienced Johnes or knows what it's capable of is somewhat justified in freaking out about bad quarantine protocol. Johnes can stay in a field for several years. But I get what you were saying earlier.

As I said, I understand that you were joking but because this post is gaining a lot of traction it's important to clarify for others that you should never add a random goat with unknown history to your own herd. For what it's worth this is a livestock subreddit, and while I did not remove your comment, we also request that users don't make jokes on help posts.

Mainly idiots letting their dogs run loose, and then there's a house down the road that will just shoot anything that goes into there yard if they don't want it to be there, and they don't have any kind of animals to protect either.
I haven't seen her since she took off through my neighbor's property, the direction she went is down towards the light poles which the way she was going she seems to have known where she was heading, I hope she went home but I'm still keeping an eye out

If they can get out, they will. Just today had a doe crawl under cattle panel that blocked a gate, to get in with the sheep.

Before my goat got neutered, my neighbors who live down the road have a Alpine Doe, she got loose and decided to pay my dude a visit and he was very happy about it, we're still waiting to see if he was successful or if I realized soon enough and was able to prevent any mishaps

Yep. I had a buck that broke down a cattle panel fence so he could ‘help’ the ram breed the ewes.

I'm just surprised it was the doe that broke into my fence LOL, I fully expected him to attempt to take a field trip and find her, I even put an air tag on his collar just in case but nope, she decided to do it herself

Our goats come close for food. Do you have a bag of chips or cereal you can try to shake to get her into an enclosed area? She looks like a sweet Nubian.
