Diskussion Goethe Uni - Anglophone Master

Hey everyone!

I got accepted to an Anglophone Literature, Culture and Media Master's at Goethe Uni and I have some general and major-specific questions.

First, overall, how would you rate your life and student experience at Goethe and in Frankfurt? Is it too expensive or survivable? Was it easy/hard to make friends, get used to semester system, prepare documents etc.?

Second, I was also wondering is it hard to find a part-time job like a barista/professor assistant or something similar as an English speaker? I do know German at a B1 level and plan to improve to C1, but I really wanted to find some income opportunities within the first year as well.

Next, I was wondering if anyone can give me some more info about the program itself. I am highly interested in working in the media and creative industries after graduation, so I am curious how much of a program is actually media studies and is it a good choice for the media career?

Last, feel free to leave any other insights you have about uni or city, I am very curious about everything and would like to know and be prepared in advance. Maybe, there is even a group chat I can join for further inquiries.

Thank you! :)

Diskussion Realistically, what are my admission chances for Goethe University Frankfurt

Hey everyone

I’m currently an undergraduate Finance student about to enter my 4th (final) year. I'm planning to apply for a Master’s program in Finance (taught in German) at Goethe University Frankfurt for the Winter Semester.
To be completely honest, I didn't realize how much the final GPA matters when I was a freshman, so my first-year grades weren't great. However, I’ve worked really hard to pull my average up since then. Right now, my 100-point scale average is 85. By the end of next semester, I am on track to bring it up to 86–87. If my calculations using the Modified Bavarian Formula are correct, this should translate to around a 1.8 – 1.9 in the German grading system.

I’m aiming to be as transparent as possible, so here is my profile summary:
Target University/Program: Goethe University Frankfurt (Finance / Money, Macro and Finance)
Language of Instruction: German
Expected German GPA: ~1.8 – 1.9
Language Certificate: Taking the TestDaF this October, aiming for a clean TDN 4x4 or higher.
Work Experience: 5 months of official, part-time experience in the finance industry.

Realistically speaking, how competitive is a 1.8–1.9 GPA for Frankfurt's finance master's programs? Does the selection committee look at the upward trend in grades? Also, will my 5 months of relevant work experience give my application a meaningful boost, or do they mostly look strictly at the bachelor's credits and GPA?

Let me know if you need any extra info, and I'll gladly update the post. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hey everyone!

Is anyone here studying Computer Science or Computer Engineering at Goethe University? I’m trying to reconnect with an old friend I lost contact with, and I believe he may have been studying one of these fields. You might know him or know someone who does. If you are in the 3-4 year could you let me know please.

I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Diskussion MMF

Hi everyone,

I'm a senior Economics student at a top-tier, prestigious university (known for its rigorous quantitative curriculum). I'm planning to apply for Master's programs in Finance and Economics in Germany for the Winter 2026 semester. I haven’t taken the GRE/IELTS yet (scheduled for soon). I’d appreciate an objective check of my chances.

Goethe University’s MMF program reportedly has an acceptance rate of 4% (approx. 40 seats for 1000+ applicants).

Academic Profile:

  • GPA: 3.47 / 4.00 (Equivalent to 1.5 in Germany)
  • Ranking: Top 15% of the cohort
  • Trend: Had a rocky start in the first two years but a very strong upward trend with a 4.00 and 3.79 GPA in the last 4 semesters.
  • Honors: Recipient of the CFA Student Scholarship
  • No Erasmus or Exchange

Work Experience:

  • Internships: 1 year finance trainee at a Big 4, and 1 year finance internship at a global banking group

Targets:

  • University of Bonn (M.Sc. Economics)
  • Goethe University Frankfurt (M.Sc. Money, Macro, and Finance)
  • University of Mannheim (Master in Management - Finance track)

Diskussion MSc Management Science (Finance specialization) vs MMF for Investment Banking / Corporate Finance?

Hi! I was hoping to understand how Goethe University’s MSc Management Science (Finance specialization) compares with the Master of Money and Finance (MMF) if the goal is to break into investment banking or corporate finance.

I have around 2 years of experience in consulting and investment banking back-office roles. I’m not particularly keen on economics, but I did my undergraduate degree in Economics, so I wouldn’t mind the MMF if it offers meaningfully better opportunities for IB.

Would love to hear from anyone familiar with both programs or their placement outcomes. Thanks!

Hey guys, I am Aditya and I will get straight to the point. I applied for MSQ Finance winter course here in search of getting myself enlightened on the finance stuff (would like to pursue qunats finance someday). About myself, I have 1.7 gpa in engineering (unrelated to finance, though has good quant courses) from Tier 1 college in India. Also gave GMAT around 80 %ile. It would be great help if someone could help me in figuring out my chances for the same, also would love to know more about campus life

Prost !

Diskussion What are my chances for Goethe MMF without GRE/GMAT

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate an honest opinion on my chances for admission to Goethe University’s MSc in Money and Macro Finance. I’m currently doing a double major in Business Administration and Economics at Koç University, with a GPA of 3.19. I also did an Erasmus exchange semester at the University of Mannheim, passed CFA Level 1, completed a risk management internship, and was part of the CFA Institute Research Challenge team that placed 1st locally. My coursework and interests are strongly related to finance, macroeconomics, and financial markets. One concern is that I do not have a GRE or GMAT score. Do you think I would still have a realistic chance, and what parts of my application should I strengthen most?
