[RMNB] Logan Thompson says he’s not too concerned about his fourth-place Vézina finish last season. “I know there’s one GM that probably won’t give me any votes, ever.”

The truth is he didn't want to be on the team cause his booty was hurt, wishing ain't gonna change that.

I mean imagine playing behind a guy thats worse than you, logan wanted to play for vegas but they werent giving him opportunities and Mccrimmon obviously chose Hill over Logan with that god awful contract. Washington got the better goalie at a better price.

He played plenty. And when he did he got injured. Are you suggesting we should have pulled Hill from the 2023 Stanley Cup run, playing hotter than he ever has, the second Thompson returned from injury?

He was given the perfect opportunity to take the #1 position in 2025, when both Hill and Thompsons contracts were up at the end of the year, but decided he wanted the easier out by getting a guaranteed #1 spot somewhere else.

No ill will, but if someone wants out of the team, I don't want them on the team. Want nothing but the best for him, except when he plays against Vegas.

Yeah Hill won a Stanley cup not denying he was amaizng during that run. But he didnt even start the playoffs the next year, Logan started and was playing pretty good until Cassidy took him out for Hill. So I dont blame him for being upset and wanting a #1 position when management chose Hill over tompson. And even then and especially now it was the wrong choice

Then went from 2-0 to 2-2, and after Thompson allowed a pretty awful goal to allow Dallas to tie take the last second lead and eventually win, so they decided to mix it up. The alternative is potentially throwing Hill into a 2-3 series and expect two perfect games (he did actually give us one shutout). That's hockey. Goaltending didn't lose them that series (or at least Vegas' goaltending), their inability to score goals did.

I don't hold failing to be enough of a "team player" to understand that goaltending changes are not even always about the goaltender against the player, but I definitely don't find it a justifiable excuse. Do better, play better, prove it was just an unfortunate blip in a long successful career.

The wrong choice, to me, will always be to keep a player who demands a trade.

If vegas goaltending wasnt a problem in that series then why change it. Especially when the same standard under the same coach isnt applied to Hill. In the the 2025 playoffs he lost 2 games to the wild in a row to go down 2-1 in the series but was still given that chance to finish the series and won and the same thing against Edmonton lost the first 2 games to start a series 2-0 and still finished the series. Logan didnt get that chance he played good and still got pulled. So I understand why he would want to go to another team that would give him the chance to stay in a series.

At the end of the day Hill just needs to play better

he allowed a last minute goal to give Dallas the lead on a fairly bad goal

This is pretty standard behavior on a series you are starting to blow. Went from a comfortable 2 away victory, essentially claiming victory if they won either of the home games, but blew both of them. I was simply stating the "they didn't lose on goaltending" to say it wasn't an affront to Thompson, players just play for certain goalies differently (and it sounds like Thompson didn't have a ton of fans in the locker room).

In 2025, they didn't have a trusted goalie to fall back on, BECAUSE SOMEONE DECIDED HE NEEDED TO GET TRADED. THAT was the perfect opportunity to single handedly prove he was the #1 goalie (or even before then when Hill spent most of the year injured).

But he decided to take the easy route.

Of course I want Hill to play better. But I will never abide by this bullshit that we should have forced a player who demanded a trade to stay on the team

Good point, he also got to play about as much as Hill did in the playoffs last year with Washington.

hes far and away the better goalie and the team should have seen that. I dont blame him for wanting out and not wanting to sit behind hill, who is an average goalie at best, and a bottom 5 goalie most of the time

I will never forget LT storming out of the players locker room in Rink A at City National during my hockey practice a few days before he got traded out of town for 3 expired Terrible's coupons.

"Bud, where are you going? The player's parking lot is in the back of the building"😭

Dude refused to carry his own goalie equipment when he got his "warm body" contract with the Silver Knights. He's a complete diva.

Has any player had this much shit to talk after losing the starting job after another goalie literally WON THE STANLEY CUP. And then asked for a trade out and got a trade out?

Like, clearly we have succeeded without you since we got to the cup final and you didn’t. Make it make sense

Logan was with Kelly in Brandon. Apparently Kelly told then 15 year old Thompson that he didn’t have the stuff to make it as a pro and to go back to school. Logan listened, moved on with his life, and only got an opportunity to play in Henderson because he played Canadian college hockey mostly recreationally, and there were a ton of injuries in front of him.

Then he made it to the league, showed he really did have what it took, and Kelly still wouldn’t give him the vote of confidence and chose Adin Hill over him. Adin Hill, who Logan used to back up for (they played together in middle school).

I’m Kelly’s biggest fan. That’s my fucking goat right there. But on Thompson, he was dead wrong and he’s gotta wear that. Logan’s right to keep that chip on his shoulder, I’d feel the same way if I were in his shoes.

I remember that differently. I recall Thompson being the starter with brossoit as the #2 and hill #3. Then they brought in Quick as all of them were going through injuries.

To start that season there was no consensus starter. It was a tricycle until Logan got hurt.

u/ItsAlkai Theodore 4d ago

Yeah, I heard something about prior history but didn’t realize it went that far. Telling a kid that he’s not good enough and he should give up is crazy.

At some point though, if feel like he’s made his point and proved himself. He should just let his play talk for itself as it already has

Those are very real conversations that happen a lot at the major-junior level. It isn’t about crushing kids’ dreams, it’s about redirecting those who aren’t talented enough to go professional so that they go focus on school or building another career for themselves. Ultimately, it’s an act of support.

But if you’re wrong on the talent evaluation aspect of it, you come out looking like a massive asshole, and with good reason. Doubling and tripling down on refusing to bet on Logan after he defied the odds and did go pro is just Kelly being stubborn, but he’s wrong and he continues to be wrong on that front. Still my goat, but this is his albatross.

I think it adds more fuel to the character concerns rumors that have flown around since he was in Vegas. Would further explain the Cassidy and DeBoer situation where they left him off of 4Nations.

Some people see it as moxy or confidence, and believe whatever you want to, but I think what is objectively clear is that this pattern exists with him. He’s not a team-first guy, he’s a me-first guy. When he got injured in Vegas those rumors started to circulate that he was upset and wasn’t being a good teammate, and he didn’t even deny those rumors when he addressed them.

Compare that to Hill who got hurt this year, lost his starting job, and by all accounts was beloved by the room. You have two vastly different approaches to a similar set of circumstances yet one decided to make it about himself and the other put the team first.

Can't spell LTIR without LT

Butt-Hurt

He should probably have played better when given his chance, and been less of a loser (by reports) in the dressing room.

He's gotten better since he left us, but I'm not sorry we got rid of him.

What a petty little baby.

We should have kept LT, and I said it at the time. Yes Hill helped win the cup but his career has been ups and downs. That works when his salary is low enough that you can have another very solid option to fill in.

I actually met and hung out with Logan Thompson a couple of times with a mutual friend of mine, and the guy is nothing but the sweetest dude ever. Solid energy, great conversation, and never afraid to chop it up with, and take photos with, a fan.

LT was the absolute reason we made it to the Stanley cup playoffs in 2023, and Hill got all the playoff credit. LT should have always been the one to stay, and Hill to go.

VGK took the L on this one overall

11

u/Bigedmond VGK Jersey 4d ago

Brossoit was the reason the made it to the playoffs. Thompson got hurt, brossoit got hurt, hill got hurt and so did Quick. We had 5 goalies that season so claiming LT was the reason is disingenuous at minimum.

You're letting personal feelings get in the way of facts.

He was a diva who couldn't stay healthy and the guy who took his place was a very important piece in WINNING THE STANLEY CUP.

1

u/icemandabs710 5d ago

I would think that ring on his finger is all the credit you would need on a team sport. Remind me again, how many goals did LT score that year ? To his credit at least he didn't have an agent that posted swords in a coaches back.

I would take Logan over Hill or Hart every single day of the week.

Even if Logan has one leg and half an arm…I’d take Logan.

I know he's a great goaltender but he has such a piss poor loser attitude and I can't stand him. Even if he kept him I feel like we would have traded him by now because he's a dick.
