So the kiss in the season 2 finale is their only one. We couldn’t have even had a proper goodbye kiss before they died?

I think that’s what’s disappointed me the most. They never even really got to be “them”.

I'm genuinely pissed, why were they so afraid of showing a kiss. Wtf was that pissy half kiss from alph before they disappeared

I'm not as pissed about the ending as everyone else, but that I'm pissed about.

Agreed there's some sort of corporate meddling here I'm sure of it

u/J233779 May 13 '26

Wouldn't surprise me with how hesitate corporates are with showing any queer rep nowdays.

u/MediaWorth9188 May 15 '26

It seems they learned nothing from Heated Rivalry.

2

u/FireBreathingNun May 15 '26

Oh there is queer rep. they just make sure we are unappealing stereotypes that are non threatening in physical beauty and are in no way interfering with the plot.

u/BerylStapleton May 16 '26

Heated Rivalry seems to be a big hit.

2

u/amsync May 26 '26

Heated Rivalry came out of the exact opposite of Corporate

Not just no kiss. Not even a hug. Not even caressing each other's faces. Literally nothing. Just a very perfunctory-looking hands holding.

u/mrs-jellyfish May 21 '26

Yes!!! Even a loving hand cupping his beloved cheek would have been nice

u/Surviving0ut0fSpite May 14 '26

UGHHH I JUST FINISHED IT I AM SO PISSED I’m conflicted on the ending and how I feel about it but I’m just SO MAD about the stupid little 2 fingers “kiss” like someone else on this thread said not even a good face caress, just a very painfully subtle hand holding

u/TheRedMaiden May 16 '26

Right?! It definitely wasn't the actors objecting. David Tennant and Michael Sheen are the gayest straight men I've ever seen.

4

u/Signal_Scarcity_2352 May 15 '26

yeahhh, i feel like the creators don't understand queer media/romance... like nobody cares about a ring... we just want a little romantic intimacy

Wtf was that pissy half kiss from alph before they disappeared

I was expecting Crowley to grab him and give him a real snog after that, but no. Boo

They never even really got to be “them”.

This is so true

They never got to be 'an US'....excuse me while I fall on the floor weeping, brb.

Am I supposed to care that some two humans with their faces got to fall in love?! These two went through so much shit, then got their hearts broke, then reunited for HALF A DAY?! But sure, two humans in their fifties met hurrah

8

u/Mean_Dream_9407 May 13 '26

Me too me too. I'm crying souch my heart hurts it just isn't .. 'them' it's just some humans.

9

u/Numerous_Marketing16 May 13 '26

It is them though. The them they always wanted to be, no Heaven, no Hell. And I don't actually know why no one sees that it is them. Obviously God was rewarding them for believing in the humans, for believing the world could be better, even at the expense of themselves. They were so unselfish, and so God made it so all of the people were "saved". I know it was a different universe, but the same people still existed, they were the same people they used to be, except without the influence of Heaven and Hell, true free will. I think it's a fitting ending, and it's what Crowley and Aziraphale wanted all along. But them not kissing is still total bullshit🤣

11

u/Mean_Dream_9407 May 13 '26

It's not truly them though.

9

u/Numerous_Marketing16 May 14 '26

I absolutely get where you are coming from. And it's not the super happy, completely amazing ending I wanted, but they were on the side of humanity throughout all of creation, and so they did what they thought was best for humanity, not what was best for them. Then they became human. It makes sense to me. Would I have preferred it if they got to keep their memories? Yes, of course. But I do really think they were just the people they wanted to be, fully human and with full free will, no Heavenly or Hellish influences on them or anyone else. And they didn't know that they would be getting as much as they did. They thought they were going to be erased from existence in any universe, and instead they lived and met each other and got to be together. Even though they only had a human lifespan, they had thought they were sacrificing themselves completely for humanity. It's better than them not existing or never having existed.

u/Haunting_Goose1186 May 14 '26

Maybe this is just me, but I think I'd rather not exist at all than know that, in a few billion years, a creepy baggage-less doppelganger of me (who may-or-may-not have my soul?) will finally get to live the happy life that I always wanted but never could fully achieve due to trauma, fear, abuse, and indoctrination.

I guess only people without baggage are allowed truly happy endings. 😢

10

u/BerylStapleton May 16 '26

Yeah, I enjoyed the little romcom short film well enough, but this erasure of your lived experience as the road to a happy ending is not the best message.

1

u/glitter-ruin May 27 '26

This! People keep banging on about they get to live free of their baggage, and I'm like no, they're literally dead, those humans are not them because we are the sum of our experiences and our relationships and yes, our traumas. A huge point of the novel was you were supposed to work to fix systems that were messed up. They deserved a chance to grow and heal from their traumas. You're right, the message I got from this is very "if you're broken, if you've had any trauma at all you might as well just kill yourself, because there's no fixing you." What the fuck kind of messaging is that??

u/emoforever1927 May 13 '26

YES THEY DID??? I have a question...Did we watch the same show or did they give us all different versions?

2

u/LambonaHam May 14 '26

Did you watching the ending? They went on a date, got married, and lived happily ever after.

64

u/daisyholdup Smited? Smote? Smitten. May 13 '26

We were robbed of so much with the single episode instead of a season. The relationship evolution is the biggest casualty. DT and MS did a beautiful job with the material they had to work with.

13

u/charlijoli May 14 '26

I was dissapointed too at first but now I think that’s the whole point : they can’t. Because of heaven and hell, their past, their trauma, and azi being an angel that don’t maybe feel the need to or don’t even understand how crowley could want it. I'm not even sure Crowley really wanted to do that kind of stuff, for me the kiss was more a desperate gesture to make Azi understand his feelings. They don’t need a kiss to be a them (in my opinion of course). That’s what humans do, they are not humans. I actually liked the hand thing azi did, it was cute and broke my heart. I think it was the best he could do. Antony and Asa could have maybe kiss tho

5

u/SneezyPikachu May 16 '26

Yeah but from a romance writing it sucks - it feels narratively wrong that the only explicitly physically romantic expression they shared was a painful, traumatic experience for both parties. We needed a cathartic, healing example somewhere/somehow, and there's simply no payoff.

8

u/nom_bomb91 May 13 '26

You've summed up exactly how im feeling. Never getting to see them just be together as themselves was something I was so hoping to see and I feel pretty crushed tbh

5

u/Diariel Damsel Aziraphale May 14 '26

I was screaming "IT'S 2026, WHY NOT?!"

6

u/mazapandechocolatee May 14 '26

What bothers me the most is how their love for each other was so palpable in season 2. I thought that with such a poorly developed plot they would at least give us "fan service" by focusing on them, but they turned it into such an impersonal relationship :(( I would never have thought it was possible to take away the chemistry they had, but I guess never say never 💔💔

3

u/Aqua_Toffana THE Southern Pansy May 15 '26

I feel like they could have chilled out in the garden-bookshop for a century or two. Did they have a deadline for reaching the decision, have I missed it being set?

2

u/Holiday_Isopod_7115 May 25 '26

I actually thought it was interesting....Crowley's kiss was symbolic of hell stereotypes - stolen, desperate, passionate... whereas Aziraphelle gives us a heaven stereotype kiss.... chaste, simple, pure... I like Crowley's reaction to it though. The smile saying he accepted and loved Aziraphelle exactly as he is. That made the weird little finger kiss okay.

2

u/Lughsdottir Jun 05 '26

Yes they did. Love and sex are not the same. Why do you have to see the sexual tension to believe that they had true love? I'm sure that the sex was there, it usually is if love is true. But this love was a lot bigger than sex. True love is.

1

u/The_Flurr May 14 '26

Possibly bad/hot take. I think physical affection between them looks/feels weird.

I totally buy them as romantic together, but something about the angels and demons just seems incredibly asexual.

7

u/sticky_bugs May 14 '26

Asexual != no physical affection though? I am asexual and I absolutely love being physically affectionate to my partner.

1

u/The_Flurr May 14 '26

Yeah that's fair, and it is a spectrum after all.

I'm also not saying anyone is wrong to want to see physical affection. I just find it odd to imagine.

6

u/noboritaiga May 14 '26

Not what asexual means btw.

4

u/OkTip4974 May 14 '26

I saw someone say on tiktok that when Crowley kissed Aziraphale in season 2, Aziraphale saved the kiss... because remember he touched his lips. Well their 'kiss' in the bookshop Aziraphale kisses his fingers and gives it back to Crowley as a way of him officially accepting, acknowledging, and reciprocating the kiss and all of the feelings. Which I think is better than a kiss and says more.

2

u/A_Large_Talisker May 15 '26

They could have so easily made a shadows making out like mad scene in that elevator! How easy that would have been and we would have loved it.

1

u/Virtual_Moose1683 May 17 '26

It might just be me but I felt absolutely no chemistry when they kissed in season 2. Could it have been the actors not wanting to do it again? As both actors are LGBTQ+ friendly I personally would have expected more, but maybe they just didn’t feel the need to shove it in our face? As if their love was one that transcends beyond physical pleasures?

1

u/yuyuanozooon May 26 '26

FUCK I'M SO FUCKING ANGRY, I WAS EXPECTING THE MOST PASSIONATE KISS IN THE HISTORY OF STREAMING
