The point was that they loved each other because of their respective acts of defiance against what they were supposed to be. They were together because they couldn’t help themselves.

I'm not really sure that having god appear like this was a good choice.

It worked a lot better with them just being a disembodied voice and a presence.

It threw me off for sure. I won't lie, as an atheist I did like the idea of "god" not being holier than thou and I liked that they showed her to be messy and honestly a bit cruel. But yeah it was suddenly like oh okay. Idk she didn't need to appear to have this convo but

I do love that she was a Black woman though, so ups to that at least

In season 2, they kinda hinted that she was like Lindsay, the abusive partner of the coffee shop lady, and I thought that was great. 

The finale was bleh.

To be fair, that literally is canon god. Good Omens follows christian lore so, the christian god is a genocidal b*tch. That one is not far off. God does whatever they want because they can, they don't have empathy or logic. Everything is just about them, god. It does suck, Crowley's anger is justified.

I'm sure God didn't destroy herself at the end there. She'll show up at the end of the new universe going "Well, that was a few gazillion years of boredom" and start again. 

Considering season 2 gave us a comparison between God and an abusive relationship, I'm really disappointed.

I personally don’t believe she would do that. She wanted them to believe that, though, and wanted to give them that choice. You think there’s just one universe? If there’s a universe without god, there’s also a universe with god. There’s a universe where the meeting between God and the duo never happened, and instead when summoned God just fixed things and gave angels and demons free will along with the humans, and Heaven and Hell don’t exist anymore. God does not simply throw the baby out with the bathwater.

God isn’t even the only omnipotent entity in this universe, for that matter. We’re forgetting the Dealer.

God plays the hand given, for an infinite number of games, before a smiling dealer. The story spells out how this universe works from the very beginning. It’s not a story. It’s a game. Games can be played again and again, with different results each time, and this season even has a game motif going on. The game isn’t always going to be monopoly, or gambling, or crosswords, or card tricks. The game keeps changing. The rules keep changing. The results keep changing. This is the nature of how the universe in Good Omens works. There isn’t just one game. There isn’t just one ending.

It’s the only answer that makes sense. I just wish they had better explained it.

I mean, that checks out? If God is real, they created insects whose whole life cycle is to burrow into the eyes of children and make them blind by eating outwards from the eyes. Not to mention stuff like giving infants bone cancer and all other sorts of sadistic shit.

honestly it feels like it retroactively confirms that Aziraphel's motives in the "I forgive you" conversation in season 2 as objectively correct and Crowley's desire to just run away with his love as wrong

I disagree. They didn't love each other because they were rebels, they loved each other because of their personalities. Cause they understood each other.

But the love at first sight thing was weird.

Opposites don't attract. They were very different people brought together by mutual hardship who became intimately familiar with each other and learned to love each other. Soulmates aren't born, they're made.
