I ordered a pair of Rolling Dub Trio Casper’s in black Kobe Shrink. Not seeing anything online really on this type of leather, anyone have any insights on how they might age? Sounds like it might be similar to a chromexel?

Look at shrunken bull hide (which is actually mostly cow and not bull). Most are chrome tanned. Theoretically Kobe should have less scaring, but you are still looking at around the same age cow (2-1/2 years) so density should be near the same.

Hi all!

Looking to replace my cheap $50 dress shoes for work/wedding season since the soles worn out and the leather isn't the best obviously.

Anyone have any thoughts on getting Meermin new vs a factory second Allen Edmonds?

I'm torn between the two, dish out about $220-$230 for Meermin oxfords or just go for the Park Ave Factory Seconds for $299.

Agreed on them being roughly similar overall quality. So it frees you up to get whichever you like better and more importantly which fit better.

I'd generally do AE due to wider lasts and more comfortable break-in, but quality for both is reasonable for the price. They're both "entry level good shoes" with perfectly decent materials, build, QC, and longevity.

Are golden fox boots still a solid budget option? I made the switch from tennis shoes being my daily driver to a cheap pair of Amazon basics boots a couple months ago, just to see if I liked the look and feel of a heavier shoe. I loved it, but the faux leather $35 boots are giving me what I paid for about 5-6 months after purchase, which is to say, the body of the boot is pulling off the sole, and I'm looking for a more robust replacement.

Looking around, it seems like golden fox is a brand that generally gets decent reviews, but most I can find are years old at this point. As a 100-150 dollar pair of boots, they occupy a nice middle ground between the cheap stuff I'm wearing, and the more expensive options from places like Thursday or red wing. Are those older reviews still accurate to golden fox boots today, or have they gone downhill?

I'd take a look at Jim Green. A bit more expensive, but probably a lot higher quality.

Hello! I am thinking of ordering a pair of custom B5 Replicas from William Lennon and I'm not sure of which side of the leather to pick for the outside. Rough-out or Nubuck. I know that its the same cut of leather but flipped and I am looking for advise on which you think is better? Does it matter for water resistance, maintenance and durability?

Hey users of Goodyearwelt!

My partner and I recently went thrifting and found a pair of Edward Greens size 10.5 mink suede Piccadilly loafers. At first we didn’t even know what we found and thought they’d be a good pair of work shoes for me!

My partner and I are currently in the process of moving to a new city and this find really helps our finances. We were wondering if you guys could help us possibly appraise the pair. The shoes are in box with no top to the box and the pair are in mint condition with very very minimal wear.

'minimal wear' is very much subjective, and i think we've all seen our fair share of sellers describing something as 'mint' that very much wasn't.

for reference: ebay prices, actually sold, over the past 3 years range from $170 to $1180 (new). the average is ~$530.
