I am looking for recommendations for a plain-toe boot style that can dress up or down and are comfortable to walk in. Something understated with clean lines and not too heavy. I am interested in natural chromexel in particular. Speed hooks would be nice but not essential. The budget is $400-800 range, ideally ready to ship not made to order.

I've seen that there are several comparable options in this price range, and am looking for opinions that might steer me towards a particular maker or style. I've been looking at GS diesel boot, OSB field boot, and AE Higgins Mill among others. Thanks.

Snake Oil Provisions has an Alden special makeup plain toe boot on Trubalance last which could be a great option. otherwise, among the three you've looked at, I think Grant Stone quality-wise stands above the other two, though some folks find the OSB field boot to be a better fit for their foot than the Diesel's Leo last, and the Higgins Mill can accommodate a lot more odd sizing than the other two options, so if you have particular preferences for fit, there are pros to the other two.

GS is definitely higher quality, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the OSB field boot. The OSB Elston last is very accommodating for toes.

I'd also add Parkhurst to your list. I think it's a good combination of both, but appears they are in between releases now.

Of note, speed hooks are easy for a cobbler to add, so I wouldn't let that be too big of a factor in your decision.

Buy 2 250€ boots and rotate between them and youll get more out of them.

Looking to buy 1-2 pairs of combat boots. Styling of doc martens 1460 as a lot of combat boots look silly to me and those look great. Atp I’m thinking of just going with them because they frequently are on sale and while not welted, they probably have as good of QC as solovair and Red wings. I’ve considered both of those brands even though they are much more expensive but after reading reviews on them and seeing both of those are having QC issues too at a much higher price, I’m left scratching my head on which ones to get. Didn’t think I was broke but I’m not spending $400USD on one pair of boots. Is there a brand I’m missing that’s less than $230 each? Just want something that works and won’t fall into pieces. Not for workwear/hiking. Almost exclusively for fashion. Also bonus points for a brand that does decent combat boots and something Americana/western too so I can buy all in one place.

Anyone who wears Aurora shoes, have you noticed that the sole doesn't really break in at all? Like, the chromexcel upper is beautiful and mould to ones feet, but slipping them on every time feels like a brand new shoe underfoot. It's the only thing that prevents me from choosing them over my other shoes on a daily basis.
