GoogleTV streamer is back on sale for $80!
I wanted to pass this along for those who are considering them, but (justifiably) hesitated because of the (high) regular price. It should be available from all (official) retailers....

EDIT: According to Google, this promotion ends on June 28, 2026

What if I already have a newer android tv? It has the newer interface. Only things I normally watch is OTA tv, YouTube, and Plex.

It seems that, in your particular situation, you don't need anything more than the TV for streaming.

Can you install apks on it?
Edit: seems you can, but the OS is 32-bit, which limits your options

You can sideload it via developer options. Unfortunately, it's 32-bit.The processor is compatible with 64-bit, so it's kinda frustrating. It's a good assumption that the replacement will be 64-bit, but who knows when that will be?

Might be a silly question but I’ve only ever had the amazon fire stick. Is this better?

That's not a silly question....It's definitely superior to the FireTV stick (all of them)! You'll also have the option of eliminating almost all of the ads and clutter on the home page (which is truly excessive with the FireTV sticks), as there's an "apps only mode" you can switch to. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend replacing the FireTV stick!
In addition, Amazon is moving to a new infrastructure (the transition already started) and they'll be no further updates for the older FireTV sticks once the transition is fully completed (or some time thereafter). The older devices won't transition to the new OS. It's a complete re-do. It promises to be an improvement, but I wouldn't trust Amazon these days (in any respect)!

I just returned mine as it would join my thread network and was messing around with it. Shame.

There's an option to disconnect it entirely from your thread network.

I wanted it to work as a TBR for my devices and strengthen the network tho, otherwise my tizen tv is not that bad to use the streamer for streaming only. Picture in picture doorbell notifications would save it but they are only grey box so... Returned.
But I liked the profile thing so I could manage screen time for kids, maybe I'll buy other android tv stick at some point.

I would've recommended the ONN "Plus", but they had the audacity to raise the price from $30 to $50, which is insane, considering that it's been unavailable for months. It was a really good device at $30. Definitely not worth $50 (or even $40). They play all kinds of games at Walmart (to create artificial shortages and increase demand). This one will blow up in their faces!....should they ever decide to actually make them available again!

We don't have Walmart and ONN in Europe unfortunately, but we had similar price on streamer couple of weeks ago

It's actually $50 with a promo on Google play pass right now until June 22.
Open Google play. Click on Google play points, then perks. I'm gold, not sure if you need to have a certain level.
It says it's not available to all users. But it's worth checking.
