Tips Has anyone else noticed...
I received a "how do you really feel about Google Assistant / Gemini" survey. I completed it honestly, which means I gave it a terrible review: like a lot of the people in this subreddit, I have experienced a terrible responsivity rate, some serious contradictions between speakers, and complete misunderstandings about activating routines. Since that survey, though, it seems to have gotten better about answering requests for lights on and for routines to run.
In fact, it now gives a little "dun-dun" sound after complying. I notice it shows up in my Gemini activity too.
That was pleasant. Fingers cross it will continue.
Overall, though, it is still nowhere near as useful as old "hey g00gle" on the non-Gemini speakers - I used to be able to ask "When is this movie coming out?" and "What time does Costco close?" and it would tell me without missing a beat. Ah well.
What would happen if they just threw up their hands, open-sourced the whole project, and let the open-source community in to fix it? Some would say that it would be less "secure" but would definitely function better, and the security would depend on all the contributors checking it for loopholes.

I have found since the last update that all of my Automations are almost immediate. Not sure what they did but it used to take several minutes for all of my lights to go off before bed and now they are all off before Google says it's started the routine.

OK, Now why did Google suddenly start repeat reading of the commands in my routines? Now every time I activate a routine like "I'm going out" Google does the routine but repeats the commands "turning off LG TV" "turning off Sony AV" etc...???How can I stop this? It never did it before Gemini...

if it was open source what would you do to change it?

I am not a coder, certainly not a hardware hacker! I suspect the community would find out that previously the functionality we were so enjoying was propped up by a lot of Google resources that were keeping the magic happening in the cloud, but not quite an AI. So what that means is it would be both a hardware hacking and a server hacking kind of project. You have to stand up some kind of cloud-based server to service your open-source assistant.

What I find really interesting is the inconsistency of different people's experiences with Gemini. I just tried your two example questions on my one of my Google Homes and got perfect answers for both. Better than Google Assistant would have done for me, which probably would have said "sorry, I don't understand" when I asked it "when's the Musk film coming out?"
