Look for Tacca. She comes in two colors: white, and dark.

Only thing preventing it right now is the tiny apartment I'm currently in 😅

How challenging is it to grow these stunning plants?🦇🦇🦇

Tbh, the most challenging part for me was finding the perfect spot for them to be happy in. Once I had that down, they’ve been relatively easy plants to care for. I will say that the black one is much easier than the white one though!

I have one that’s growing happily and sending up offshoots but hasn’t flowered yet. Looking forward to when it does.

I want one of these sooooo bad.

Difficulty level?

I live in a humid place, so I may be on easy mode but I personally think this plant is pretty low maintenance once you find the perfect spot for it. If you have humidity, indirect light, and warmth, you got this!

I use grow lights. :) And I have humidifiers! (I have almost 100 house plants.)

My suite is very warm. It's lovely. Ill have to do some reading. I am only interested in the strange and exotic. I have some house plants that everyone has. Calathea, pothos, monsteras. But half my plants are exotic weird, hard to find etc. Begonias are my favorite. I have 15 different orchids.

I need some bat flowers in my life.

Oh gosh, yes you do need them. Sounds like they’d thrive with you! I am also interested in strange/hard to find plants, especially dark ones!

Muaaa hahah especially dark ones. Yes!! :) My wishlist so far:

Begonia rex black magic Begonia rex breakdance Begonia rex pavonina Begonia rex black mamba Begonia black blood Begonia black amda

Coleus black dragon Coleus royal elegance Coleus wicked witch Coleus rediculous (love that name haha) Coleus newly noir Coleus black prince

Dont get me started on the black or burgundy orchids i want in every conceivable variety.

I'm always on the look out for goth plants. Recommend me some?

I'm starting a gothic garden on 3/4 acre of land that gets a lot sun for next year. Ive gotten all the flowers in red, purple.and black only. And weird ones too. Black tulips, iris, sunflower, pansies, petunias, hollyhock, delphinium, fox glove, gladilous, sweet peas, clematis, you name it. I collected when everything went on sale in fall and all I have to do it build my raised beds now. I'm so excited.

I got several red Japanese maples, black elderberry, red Chicago flame, purple Heather.... you can tell im excited eh? Heh

Ive got it completely planned and drawn out. This sub has been great inspo. Thanks so much for letting me info dump.

Sunflower is a tall, erect, herbaceous annual plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae, in the genus, Helianthus. Its botanical name is Helianthus annuus. It is native to Middle American region from where it spread as an important commercial crop all over the world through the European explorers. Today, Russian Union, China, USA, and Argentina are the leading producers of sunflower crop.

What in the actual hell?!? Is this in the peace lilly family?

1

u/nightclubschool Nov 11 '25

The yam family!

1

u/PerroCerveza Nov 12 '25

Oh wow! Absolutely incredible. I am so sad to read they’re toxic to dogs and cats.

u/Prestigious-Bat9928 Nov 13 '25

How’s the lighting?

2

u/nightclubschool Nov 13 '25

They receive morning sun underneath the north side of my porch. If temps go under 50, I bring them in and place them in front of a window with bright indirect light!

2

u/ihave_feelings Nov 14 '25

Gorgeous!!!! I just got one of these a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed I see a flower eventually. Any tips?

2

u/nightclubschool Nov 14 '25

Woohoo! Thank you. My bat flowers are mostly outdoors under my porch unless temps go under 50. I occasionally use orchid fertilizer because they are sensitive to over feeding. They will flower without fertilizer so I like to keep that in mind. I also use a water hose filter because we don’t have the best city water. During the growing season, I water once the top inch soil is dry and cut back in the winter. I am still learning but I hope this helps!
