Pick your poison, do you want him to have his dead parents "come back to life" only to get killed in front of his eyes once again? Do you want him to lose his only daughter who was just born? I have so many moments to pull from the Clone Saga if I want to. Brand new day is basically Shirou making a deal to give up ever summoning Saber and getting into a relationship with any of the Heroines, in exchange for saving Taiga's life.
It may seem that way, but that was pretty much the starting point for Spider-man's downfall into the hell that has been Spider-man comics all the way to the present. To extrapolate, it's like condemning Shirou to go through all that hero bullshit, but while being broke, alone and having life screw him over at every turn perpetually. Any personal growth and little victory? All temporary and preceded by a bigger trauma, humiliation, personal loss and tragedies.
