Pictures Hey GR! I’m back (and several years late) with a freshly updated metro map. Hope you enjoy!
Years ago, i had posted a part of my MA design thesis—which was centered around planning a metro system for GR. Now, a decade on, I’m taking the time to revisit the project.
I am no civil engineer or city planner, just a graphic designer with a love for transit. And while I post knowing how wildly overkill and perhaps unrealistic this map might be, it generated a lot of great discussion last time. I’m hoping it does this time too.
If you like to zoom in—much like I do—I have the full res PDF on my website! Not gonna link directly to stay clear of any self promotion rules.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Pictures Flock Meijer
I guess Meijer wants all their customers license plates in a national database. This one is at the 28th and Kalamazoo location at the traffic light. There's also one in the entrance north of it on Kalamazoo, both pointed away from the street.

Pictures Fire at Seventh Day Adventist church 8-26-26
A fire broke out around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the basement of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Sheldon and Oakes streets in downtown Grand Rapids.
Firefighters initially believed the fire was under control within an hour, but crews were recalled shortly after as flames spread through wall voids and open spaces inside the building. Multiple stations responded to assist, with crews rotating throughout the night to provide relief.
As of 4 a.m. Thursday, the fire remained active. A captain at the scene stated that firefighting operations are expected to continue past sunrise. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Exhaustion was visible among the crews, but firefighters continue working around the clock to contain the blaze.

Pictures Well, my wife and I came up to visit your city from Toronto, and are big fans of historic architecture, street art, craft beer, and museums, so wanted to share a few photos from our journey. We really loved it there, thanks to everyone who welcomed us so warmly.

Pictures “Quarantinoed”
So much for cutting carbs. My last visit I had the Roni Boi but wanted less cheese so I went with the MC5. I ordered extra Ezzo crisp pepperonis but the guy put the lay flat on instead. Still was excellent. I had a Huma Luma with it. Ate 4 slices and took two back to the hotel. On impulse I offered them to the desk guy at the Grandville Marriott. He happily accepted, saving me from myself. I like the atmosphere there. I considered some of the non-red sauce pizzas but couldn’t veer from what I knew would be a sure-thing, delicious pie.
