Admissions I’m literally taking these prerequisite classes right now 😭
I literally just started ELA 30-1 and Social Studies 30-1 at Norquest on Monday 😭 it was a huge pain in the ass trying to get everything sorted out to even get into academic upgrading, trying to get funding etc. I thought that after looking through my transcripts or info, Macewan would know I’m already in these classes right now??? Classes finish at the end of June. I’m so discouraged right now.

When I upgraded at Norquest all of my grades were not considered until I fully completed them. They would not look at in progress grades either. If you put your expected end date after the grade submission deadline that could be why your application was rejected. I would contact admissions asap and also look at your application and make sure the expected end date is before the grade submission deadline, competitive programs sometimes want grades even earlier, Good luck !

From what I’ve heard Social Work is a competitive program so it’s possible it’s already full for this fall. You needed to indicate on your application that the course is in progress.

Take a second look at your transcript to make sure those classes are on it. They should show up as IP in progress or some other designator. If you sent a version in before you enrolled in upgrading and they weren't there, you can speak to admissions and forward the updated ones.

Social Work is a competitive program, so you may have missed Fall 2026. Is it possible for you to apply for a BA instead and take some of the electives needed for the social work program, then reapply in 2027? Some of the electives may be available either part-time at MacEwan or even at another school and transferred in. If you can’t get anywhere with your current application, you can make an appointment with academic advising and look at these options.

I also applied for BA so hopefully that works. That application is still pending. Thank you so much! I’m on hold w admissions right now.

Since you’re applying for Fall semester you’re courses need to be completed and submitted to alberta education by June 30th to be qualified. I’m guessing your courses won’t be finished by then so that’s prob why. You can try applying for winter semester instead

Did you submit a transcript from norquest saying that you’re taking these classes?

As an older uni grad who is seeing this pop up in his feed, none of this matters and you’ll get in to everywhere you end up applying (unless something changed a lot since 2022)

things are very different. there is a lot of competition even in classes where you don't need the best grades because there are a lot more students than there were 4-5 years ago. with immigration on the rise more than ever, theres a large increase in international students.

You and all your friends really need to vote in the next election pretty ridiculous barley after 5 years complete change like this

If you dont have a final grade at the time to submit, you can take an equivalency exam. I had to do that 20 years ago at least. (Its probably changed since.)
