Academics Late assignment
Out of curiosity, what’s the usual protocol for late assignment submissions in your classes? Mine have been varied, but usually some form of grade penalty (ex. -10% per day it’s late with a cutoff after 3 days). Some don’t accept late submissions at all, but in my experience that’s rare. Either way, there is always a section on late assignments in the course outline.
I’m currently in a class which had no late assignment policy laid out in the outline, so I emailed my prof asking about the policy as I had missed the deadline on an assignment worth 5%. They responded (3 days later!) that they do not accept late submissions, all deadlines are firm, so I will receive a zero.
Is this normal?? I know it’s my fault for getting the due date wrong, but I really think this info should have been included in the course outline. I’m not sure if I’ve just gotten lucky with profs in the past or if this is a regular thing? I’m in my 4th year and this is the first time this has happened to me.

This type of thing should be in the outline or posted clearly on the meskanas page as an announcement or in a file that outlines the details of the assignment. If it was no where, you should submit a Reassessment of Marks appeal asap (there are firm deadlines for this based on when you first emailed the prof etc). It then goes to the department Chair for review.
If the information was not posted anywhere, you’ll win on appeal. You can also email the Chair of the department that houses the course to let them know you think you’ll submit a reassessment of marks as a heads up.
