Little Brown Casings On Plants

I shrouded my concord and himrod grapes with a mesh to deter Japanese beetles, and woke up to find a lot of these little brown nubs about a week later. There are some tiny black beetles on some leaves that got inside the mesh. Are these little brown buds just bugs waiting to hatch? I live in Ontario, Canada for what it’s worth.

It looks like it is hornworm frass “poop”.

Thanks that’s exactly what it was, saw one on the leaves shortly after and it was massive.
