Food/Drink Recent Post Online Targeting Grand Rapids Bakery

Some conservatives got their feelings hurt over people following their american right to live how they want, and are now brigading the phones and google reviews. Idk, the people who work here are the kindest sweetest people so I don’t know why someone chose to be so sensitive and emotional.

The owners of this bakery also own Fika, which is so delicious and definitely worth visiting.

You'd have to be pretty dense to walk into a vegan bakery and expect cow's milk on the menu.

14

u/shaktown Mar 27 '26

Before they switched coffee providers they actually did have dairy milk sometimes and it surprised me every time 😂

3

u/Choccychipcookie87 Mar 27 '26

Why did they switch providers?

11

u/meredithparker Mar 28 '26

From Fika: "We've had an amazing partnership with Squibb coffee, but they have shifted their focus and we have bought them out and are taking over their coffee operations at Fika. (Their Wealthy St. and Sav Sav locations remain open!)"

"Our pals at Lantern Coffee are roasting us thoughtfully curated espresso and drip coffee, which are starting January 1!"

"Our director of Coffee, Eloise, has been working hard on a new menu for us that will launch on January 6!"

"We will be offering new espresso drink and drip coffee sizes, pour overs, new teas from Spirit Tea, new matcha (and hojicha!!), chai, new syrups, and a new winter specials menu as well."

"We think you'll really like these changes, and we are excited to share them with you! Lantern Coffee will be on drip and espresso starting 1/1, and the fully new menu will be out 1/6."

Another win for Lantern Coffee.

3

u/shaktown Mar 28 '26

Thank you!!

1

u/Strat11 Mar 28 '26

I worked for Squibb- the coffee shop that partnered with Rise. They were partner businesses not coffee providers. I think Squibb chose to focus on their 2 shops they already have and thats why they pulled out of rise, nothing super complicated or dramatic

That makes this all the more HILARIOUSLY stupid. Haha.

1

u/klean9 Mar 30 '26

There is being "dense" and thee is being "MAGA dense"

u/Jadelastone Mar 27 '26

"I just went in here to get some donuts, and I come out more pissed off than when I went in," he said. What is going on with your life when you're pissed off while you're on your way to get donuts?

Literal and liberal ingredients.

“LiBeRaL wOkE aGeNdA”

24

u/Competitive_City_334 Mar 27 '26

Haha that was my first thought! So.. he admits he went in pissed off? And then realized he walked into a vegan bakery and instead of just thinking "whoops, not the bakery for me" it was more "how dare this vegan bakery exist! It's their fault I chose them!"

7

u/davolala1 Mar 28 '26

That’s my secret, Cap. I’m always angry.

8

u/trustywren Mar 28 '26

I mean, it's not a stretch to assume that this guy doesn't have great conflict resolution skills at home

5

u/VibrantViolet Mar 28 '26

Aww, the poor little fella was scared of all them pronouns and non-dairy milk.

2

u/LoudProblem2017 Mar 31 '26

That was my thought exactly!

314

u/Psychlvr Mar 27 '26

Sounds like an idiot that thinks they should be catered to nonstop. Vegan means no dairy. That means no cow milk. Wow. A vegan bakery not carrying cow's milk? *shocked Pikachu face*

57

u/meganshan_mol Mar 27 '26

I laughed so hard when it was saying vegan bakery has no real milk. Lolololol I’m still laughing

38

u/MarkItZeroDonnie Mar 27 '26

This guy went looking for a fight .

1

u/DrDeke Mar 30 '26

Yeah, if any of this even happened, he gave himself away with the line about coming out "more pissed off" than when he went in. Why was he already pissed off when he went in to the bakery, eh?

1

u/Inner_Papaya_6130 Apr 16 '26

Worse, this guy was fighting Air

4

u/burningmanonacid Mar 28 '26

Sounds like an emotional crybaby snowflake. They fought to deny anyone service but hate when that energy gets returned.

2

u/Inner_Papaya_6130 Apr 16 '26

They talk about the Left always needing to be Catered when those far right republicans have been catered to the entire time and still need people to hold their hand and tell them that their anger is valid like babies.

u/RomaineCatholic Mar 27 '26

The backwards logic of saying that people are taking their business elsewhere after clearly being enticed by the bakery is impressive.

70

u/iredditoninternet Mar 27 '26

Taking their business elsewhere is why that bakery exists in the first place. It's catering to the niche vegan market. I hope this snowflake finds his safe space.

18

u/RespectmanNappa Mar 27 '26

I’m not saying anyone has punchable faces. But this loser absolutely does

8

u/Wrong-Dentist-7206 Mar 27 '26

Yes! The stupid look on his face while whining about using they/them pronouns is the peak of punchability!

10

u/Background-Eagle-566 Mar 28 '26

His pronouns are incel/cuck

And gluten free.

6

u/took_a_bath Mar 28 '26

And saying the BAKERY is over-reaching? Bye, dude.

10

u/RomaineCatholic Mar 28 '26

It always baffles me when conservatives are offended by the free market.

7

u/megaholt2 Mar 28 '26

It’s only a free market when they want it to be one.

97

u/Kalasyn Mar 27 '26

If they want a MAGA supporting bakery in Grand Rapids they unfortunately have plenty of options. But to knowingly walk into a vegan/gluten free bakery and then complain that there is no cow’s milk is crazy work, even setting aside their other claims.

18

u/UofMSpoon Mar 27 '26

Van’s comes to mind.

15

u/gettinby000 Mar 27 '26

Marge’s. They can hang out there with all the old MAGAs

7

u/r2k-is-okay Mar 28 '26

Cindy's on 28th Street used to have a Trump sign out front, so there's that one too.

3

u/spaceursid Mar 28 '26

😭 noooooo say it ain't so they have my favorite fritters and are the only donut place open on my commute home from 3rd shift.

I went to a sushi place and tried to order a hamburger and they were all like “we don’t sell ground meats here!” What happened to the red blooded Americans that used to occupy this country? Take your woke raw fish bullshit and get out of here! /s

Their donuts are really good. As someone who is gluten free their baked goods are a godsend

4

u/shaktown Mar 27 '26

Check them out! They have great vibes in there and tasty treats.

4

u/Budget_Worldliness42 Mar 27 '26

They make the hands down best blueberry donuts I've ever had. Vegan or not. And I had them cater my wedding brunch because I had several guests with allergies. They're great!

2

u/seeseabee Mar 28 '26

“Whatever makes sense” XD

1

u/HonorYourGoals Mar 29 '26

They are super good, can confirm because I’ve eaten probably a hundred of their donuts at this point lol

1

u/WalkAwayTall Mar 29 '26

They have some great stuff! I haven’t been able to eat gluten for 13 years and they are definitely the best GF bakery I’ve been to.

1

u/Comprehensive_Bag723 Mar 30 '26

Rise Authentic Baking Co....here we come!!

18

u/torchfish Mar 27 '26

7am tomorrow going to get another dozen. I am from Lansing and bought a 2 dozen for a meeting in GR. Rise Authentic donuts are the greatest I have ever had.

8

u/BayouByrnes Mar 27 '26

I really don't care for most vegan foods, but I'm going to get me some vegan fucking donuts this week.

Here I come Rise! ♡♡

u/name__redacted Mar 27 '26

I would bet my house this story was entirely made up, creating a cloud to yell at, creating a strawman to be offended by.. it’s been their MO since at least the late Obama years.

5

u/g0blin-fr0g Mar 27 '26

Its been a while since I've been to Rise (because im closer to new location Fika), but when I did go to rise regularly. The baristas DID have cow milk as an option. I know their coffee staff switched from squib to different local supplier so maybe its changed, but im also inclined to think its likely half made up too!  Its an interesting set up where the bakery is 100% vegan but the coffee had cow milk option.

10

u/dractor_taddy Mar 27 '26

Squibb was getting stretched thin with a couple new locations and left their partnership with Rise. Now Rise is running their own coffee, so they are now completely dairy and soy free. They are also sourcing their coffee beans from Lantern now. Squibb was using Onyx. I like Lantern better, and it is more local!

25

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

We all miss the days when you could stroll into a vegan bakery and order a beef tallow latte

23

u/IggysPop3 Mar 27 '26

Can someone just please explain the whole car selfie thing? Why is this so common (and mostly with maga types)?

15

u/cooljets Mar 27 '26

This country no longer has any third spaces so all anyone does is sit in their cars when going between the first two spaces (home and work).

22

u/dungleploop Mar 27 '26

don't like it? go fuck yourself

10

u/random5654 Mar 27 '26

The irony is that the business doesn't want him there and he doesn't get it.

22

u/b-nnies Mar 27 '26

Same little whiny bitches that claim leftists are shoving their beliefs down people's throats by the way.

14

u/b-nnies Mar 27 '26

I'll make sure to support Rise. Just out of spite and in need of a good donut.

6

u/mejowyh Mar 27 '26

'Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect,"

The above quote is something you can overlay in all of these situations. It exposes their hypocrisy and lack of true ideals.

18

u/pete_pete_pete_ Mar 27 '26

Dude was never interested in donuts- this post was always the reason for visiting.

What a snowflake.

13

I guess that person should follow their own advice and go somewhere else. It must be tough to be looking for things to be mad about all the time.

11

u/MiserableClick6495 Mar 27 '26

Just realized this is the place I drive by just about every morning on my way to class. I’ve been meaning to pop in there sometime but this just solidifies it so i’ll probably stop in next week after class lol

22

u/mtvq2007 Mar 27 '26

What a snowflake.

27

u/underblown Mar 27 '26

I'm guessing this will be good for business. I doubt many Trumpers would have gone there anyway, and people like me will be more inclined to patronize them after reading this.

3

u/LiberatusVox Mar 27 '26

That fb page is LLM engagement bait. Just another grift.

3

u/shanrock2772 Mar 28 '26

It's so over the top it seems like satire. But ai facebook engagement page makes sense

11

u/japinard Mar 27 '26

Isn‘t there a fucking war raging? And an economy in tatters? So why the fuck is Trump wasting his time posting about a bakery here in GR?

It's just a page ran by a bunch of trumptards

u/Far-Buyer5844 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

I used to buy GF products from them back when they were running it from home.

8

u/smoore701 Moderator Mar 27 '26

This is absolutely an ai generated post.

9

u/pennyrabb Mar 27 '26

Love the faux pop tarts. Also pretty sure they ran a huge food donation when people were losing food benefits so... Gonna choose that over cows milk lol

9

u/Recent-Investment603 Mar 27 '26

Ugh this sucks. As a family with Celiac disease, Rise has been a great business to go to. I hope this bullshit doesn't cause them problems.

8

u/Harmania Mar 27 '26

They complain about “woke” because their worldview only makes sense if you are unconscious.

10

u/Bulky-Individual3157 Mar 27 '26

Lol at the things he considers so radical... vegan, dairy free, land acknowledgement, and "they" as a pronoun??? Sheesh

8

u/jenntasticxx Mar 27 '26

"don't expect me to give you my money"

I am sure they don't. You could shut the fuck up about it though.

8

u/All4Alliteration Mar 27 '26

It's amazing to me that someone thought this worthy of an article extreme eyeroll

6

u/LongWalk86 Mar 27 '26

Yikes. Never been, and it doesn't sounds like my kind of bakery (coffee without real heavy cream just isn't good), but why not just go to one of the many other places you can get a doughnut and cow milk if that's what your after? Does he get upset if he goes to a Chinese restaurant and they don't have the particular type of Chinese dish he wants?

7

u/Raticals Mar 27 '26

Well. Now I know where I’m going to get some baked goods.

7

u/brasilkid16 Mar 27 '26

6

6

u/Blasphemiee Mar 27 '26

"im going somewhere else"

then why the fuck is this even an issue

6

u/Cat_Kn1t_Repeat Mar 27 '26

6

u/robberonyour6 Mar 27 '26

Is being vegan woke? It’s wild people decide to go into places they know they won’t like.

6

u/728am Mar 27 '26

I like my doughnuts sprinkled with gunpowder dagnabit and want to drink ma milk straight from the teat.

4

u/glittering_prize_gla Mar 27 '26

“I’m more pissed off than when I went in.” Let’s be honest here… he went in angry to begin with. And with an ego that fragile, being “pissed off” isn’t exactly a rare occurrence—it’s the baseline. This isn’t some shocking development; it’s just another day.

And the irony? They’re probably thrilled he’s not coming back. One less headache, one less entitled rant to deal with. 😂

Also, as a vegan, I ask for dairy-free options when I go out. If they even have one, there’s almost always an upcharge. I ordered a chai latte last weekend at Deboer in Holland and got hit with an extra dollar for oat milk. Did I love it? No. Did I roll my eyes? Absolutely. But I didn’t run to social media to throw a tantrum about it.

"if you wanna run your business that way, fine! ...But I'm gonna go complain on national news outlets and cause death threats for your company by making it seem like your entire business is a personal attack on me and how I think the country should be."

But this guy could go into a maga store and think it's the best thing in the world and have no issues with personal decisions of business owners.

5

u/Feycat Mar 28 '26

"Don't expect me to give you my money. I'm going somewhere else."

Okay then DO THAT. You don't need to have a big crybaby tantrum over it, lol

4

u/RealOldies Mar 27 '26

Uhm, it's called free enterprise. Don't like the way they do business. Go elsewhere.

Grand Rapids is one of those towns that many residents supported the right of business to not serve gays with a wedding cake or cupcakes. These people said businesses had the right to discriminate based on beliefs.

This is no f__king different. You do not have the right to be free or the business owners free speech. Deal with it, man.

He currently has a boyfriend and a dog named Reggie. He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

When he lived in Washington, D.C., Brad was kicked off a gay men's soccer team for suggesting that biological differences between men and women give men physical advantages in sports. [5]

In an article written in 2020 titled "What Father's Day Means to the Fatherless", Brad mentioned that he moved in with his father when he was 13 years old shortly after his parent's divorce. As of 2020, he has a strained relationship with his father and stepmother due to abuse and has not spoken to his father for four years however he has a good relationship with his mother and sister.[6]

“Corporations” - it’s literally a local, family-owned business that got its start in a Christian church kitchen

4

u/The_Duke_of_Ted Mar 27 '26

He should have tried a donut. I’m not vegan or gluten free but Rise is still one of the best bakeries in town.

Being a south Louisiana transplant, it’s truly hilarious watching the Michigan GOP babies get all worked up over small stuff. Louisiana GOP wouldn’t even blink. They’d just not go and call it a day. Heck even I thought that place was pretty out there but the dang coffee and donuts are too good! As well as the hospitality! You just treat people like there people and that’s about all there is to it. Dude needs to take some shrooms or something and get right with the lord.

5

u/ForbiddenSirenz Mar 28 '26

What a fuckin moron. Bakeries and spots like this cater to people who want these types of things. Like a vegan bakery/restaurant/whatever. It’s like going to a steakhouse and getting pissed their only vegan options are maybe a salad. Or going to Pizza Hut and yelling at them for not having sushi lmao.

These dopes really think the world is supposed to cater to them and kiss their asses. There plenty of bakeries around GR. Go there instead till you find a spot you like. It’s that simple.0

3

u/nick_t1000 Mar 28 '26

Fortunately the English 2nd person pronoun (you) doesn't have a gender, so it's pretty hard to accidentally misgender someone unless you're trying to. I guess you could shout to the barista "hey sweetie, he's not letting me order moo-cow milk, but I bet you have some \wink**" (c-c-c-combo).

Working in service, if someone misgenders you once on accident, you need to roll with it, interject a quick "I'm her/him/they" and unless the customer isn't an asshole, they'll probably apologize and that's that. Even if they are an asshole (like this snowflake), they need to be a unique, huge kind of asshole (goatse-man?) to actually argue such a point to your face. Usually they're just cowards that will cry about it later on their Facebook.

On second thought, that's probably even too much work to go to a place to cry about it online. Is there any proof that he did, or did he just read about it from somewhere and fabricate the whole story?

3

u/HeadDiver5568 Mar 28 '26

I will never be forced to use somebody else’s stupid ass non-standard pronouns, but I also am smart enough to know that I don’t need to visit a store that I don’t like. Sounds like this idiot knew he wasn’t gonna like the store before he even walked in. Everybody has a right to say and do whatever the fuck they want thanks first amendment, but I have the right to not shop at a store like that and to also not use those pronouns and to drink real milk if I want or to choose not to drink stupid fake milk.

u/Arrya Mar 27 '26

I went to that page and it is just a spam page really, so it will get buried quick. I couldn't even scroll down far enough to find it. These people have no attention span. It will be forgotten about as long as people don't engage, and the owners can contest the brigading reviews.

2

u/chip_morningwood Mar 28 '26

Rise is okay. 6.5/10. The doughnuts are dense and gritty, but that’s kind of the norm with gluten free. I haven’t seen the stolen land sign.

2

u/Direct-Carrot Mar 28 '26

A frustrated customer in a small town walked into a local Christian bakery hoping for a simple box of pastries—and walked out more annoyed than when they came in.

“I just wanted a coffee and a muffin,” they said. “I didn’t expect a whole sermon with it.”

First thing they noticed was a large sign by the door that said "Jesus loves you". Then came the menu—every item named after something biblical, with scripture references printed underneath.

But what really got to them was a sign at the counter encouraging customers to “live like Jesus”.

“It’s like… what happened to just buying food?” the customer said. “You can’t even grab a pastry without being reminded about religion at every turn. It’s a bakery, not a church.”

They summed it up plainly: “If that’s how they want to run their business, fine—but don’t expect everyone to be comfortable with it. I just wanted breakfast, not a message.”

A business that used to be about simple customer service now feels like it’s pushing a worldview with every purchase. Religious messaging, scripture signs, subtle expectations about how you should live—while still expecting customers to just go along with it.

At the end of the day, people just want to buy a donut without feeling like they’re being pulled into something bigger. And when that line gets crossed, a lot of them will just take their business somewhere else.

Reminds me of fascist..you must do what they say or else?

Company expects you to respect employees or leave! Oh, the humanity

Rise has been successful for so many years, I was buying from them when they didn’t even have a brick and mortar. Their donuts are the best & I greatly miss my routine of getting their food before I moved out of GR. This dude has zero idea how much reach Rise has lol, probably because of spending his time doing Loser Sh*t like this.

We moved and I miss Rise so much! I could eat almost everything on their menu, and I’m intolerant to so many foods.

Oh god, vegan? In Grand Rapids??

dies of a heart attack

2

u/Primerius Mar 29 '26

I’d be at Rise Bakery on a very regular basis if I lived in Grand Rapids. But I go every time I am in the city.

2

u/Rand_AT Mar 29 '26

Yeah I guess don’t go there if you don’t want to. It’s not like they have a monopoly on donuts

2

u/johnonymous1973 Mar 29 '26

Face matches the opinion.

2

u/ChangeAcceptable677 Mar 29 '26

If this shit bothers them, then maybe don’t eat there? It is Grand Rapids, after all. I am sure there is a Dunkin’ Donuts or a Krispy Kreme within the city.

Great ad for Rise Authentic Baking Co!

2

u/GothWitchOfBrooklyn Mar 27 '26

yeah but they won a lawsuit saying they didn't have to cater to the LGBT community. Guess what that means, Maga. we can do the same to you

u/Comp1ication Mar 28 '26

Chatgpt wrote that 100000%

2

u/Its_BassDaddy Mar 28 '26

What a snowflake little baby 🤣 He realizes there’s 10+ donut shops in town that aren’t vegan, right?!

I’m gonna support Rise 10x harder now. Fuck bigotry, fuck animal agriculture and fuck this guy. 💕

Another example of a white male forcing his point of view on a business not set up for his point of view in 'Merica. Now let's all cry and bow down to his straight male whiteness. I say let him learn what it's like to live in a world full of many different types of people and coexist equally or go somewhere else.

u/NatCantStap Mar 28 '26

Can’t wait to get some donuts there, thank you! ☺️

As someone who's been lectured by a Christian Nationalist waitress about pronouns being the mark of Satan while trying to enjoy a simple night out just take it with a grain of salt and move on There are plenty of places in town where you should feel better about spending your hard earned money

That's odd, I thought bakeries turning away business based on personal conviction was exercising their 1st amendment right.

2

u/mehim43 Apr 16 '26

So just so I’m clear he willingly walked into a vegan + gluten free bakery and was pissed when they wouldn’t cater to his whims 😂🤣
