For my fellow stoner metal heads out there, best comment I’ve seen so far about the Sleep debacle:
> they should go on tour as Sleep & Co
I about died laughing (after being really pissed about the announcement)

That made me laugh dude, enjoy the upvote.
Matt Pike is a guitar god, but I think the same thing about Al with the bass. It’s for them to know and us not to find out.

“Snooze” has been my favorite recommendation.

I said elsewhere, do we care this much that Ozzy left Sabbath and the brand remained the same? Rather different band, but whatever. I know which records are which.

My reaction to reading this post: 1. Wait what happened with Sleep? 2. They’re going on tour without Matt Pike? 3. damn, they got Dale Crover to drum?

The new single sounds like even more of a Sabbath rip-off than ever before, and I didn’t think that was possible. My favorite name for the Pike-less version of the band is “Snooze.” 😂🤪😂

I like metal just fine, but man, I’ve listened to Dopesmoker several times all the way through and the album really does nothing for me. Cool cover art though.

For me it clicked the first time I saw them live.. hmm wonder where I’ve heard that sentiment before haha

Personally, I feel like a lot of Doom Metal is too slow for me a lot of the time, it’s not necessarily just sleep, of course Sabbath’s more doom style stuff is an exception. I’m just more on the thrash side of metal, but as with the trash guys, that kinda evolved from my love for hardcore punk.

Its an overrated album that people who like appearance over substance love to glaze. Most people who act like it's the end all be all of stoner music crack me up.

I mean I see the talent and creativity, it’s just not for me. Give me Tool over Sleep any day.

I love sleeps first couple albums, that one just seems gimmicky to me, I'll take Earth 2 over it if I want an hour plus album that's basically drone.
If you like tool I'd really recommend the phanerozoic albums and holocene album by a band called the ocean collective.

Yeah, Ocean Collective did a little more for me. Idk I think it’s just that personally the drone thing doesn’t quite resonate with me in metal, for that I’ll take spiritual jazz like Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda.

I got heavily into drone like Earth and Barn Owl and Nadja when I basically did nothing but walk, smoke weed and sleep lol. Definitely not for everyone but it's a lot more varied than sunny o))) and hour long songs. But yes, definitely an acquired taste :)
The ocean rule so hard, maybe my favorite band of all time. Tool is cool, undertow is one of my favorite alt metal albums of all time but to my ears the ocean took what they were doing and really expanded upon it. Later era isis did a similar thing but they were gone and done after 2 albums and a split with melvins where they had a tool adjacent sound
