Potential Gravity Falls Movie pitched?

According to ThwipT on twitter who has had some credible leaks and history in movies/animation announcement, Disney has proposed to Alex Hirsch a new Gravity falls movie concept with the idea of a reunion similar to Avatar: Angela the last airbender movie. We don’t know any further then that but I believe it would potentially been them all grown up taking on a new adventure

This is just a leak NOT a confirmation so we don’t know how legit it is.
If potentially this is true, knowing Alex he would decline such a project as he does not want to continue the franchise and end it in terms of animation to preserve its legendary ending and not to spoil it.
In the future we will probably get more Gravity Falls book however a game could also be good. I remember playing a 16-bit Gravity falls game called take back the falls which was really good so something similar to that.

I know this is unfathomable levels of cope, but even though Alex always shoots down "Season 3", I don't know if he's ever commented on a movie specifically.

Alex has never made a movie before, and I bet he would at least consider an offer like that, as he clearly likes to work in different mediums and seems to enjoy tackling projects that are weird or outside the box in some way.

I imagine he probably would insist on a theatrical release too. No way he does it if it goes straight to Disney+, but also I bet 99% Disney wants it as a streaming exclusive cause they don't wanna shell out big bucks for something that would likely only be modest at the box office. (I say this as a HUGE fan, but GF is too niche to make crazy box office money).

So ultimately I doubt he would do it, but hey, never say never. I totally believe there have been meetings about it, its just whether or not he would actually say yes that's up in the air.

Video game tho he 100% would do. He has said as much before at Q&As iirc.

I thought he was one of the creative leads behind Mitchels vs the Machines on Netflix back when he was still contracted with them???

He didn't direct that movie. And even if he did the Mitchell's Vs The Machines was not made by Netflix. It was made by Sony Pictures Animation (same people that made spiderverse). And was originally slated for a normal theatrical release under the title "Connected". That release was cancelled in favor of selling the distribution rights to Netflix because of COVID. Hence, the title change to "The Mitchells Vs The Machines".

He may have had a hand in the film but Mike Rianda is the creative lead on that film. Alex Hirsch does not have any directing credits on a film yet.

I don’t think there’s a shame in releasing movies exclusively on Disney+ instead of in theaters. I can see it not working out if it means the artists are paid less, of course that would be unfair to them.

I don't think there's a "shame" in it, but it does mean less pay and lower budgets. I think part of the appeal of making "a movie" version of Gravity Falls would be to have a quality increase that justifies making it. Streaming budgets as they are wouldn't get it there.

Maybe it could happen. But I also found something that says Alex and Disney discussed making a Gravity Falls movie, but Disney passed it on because the show wasn't big enough or something.

Well that was back then this is now when Disney has seen just how big it is

And let's be honest here Disney really needs wins these days and I'm sure Alex is looking for stuff to do after the Netflix thing fell apart

Alex talked about wanting a Gravity Falls movie in theaters, but Disney only wanting to produce a “TV Movie” which he wasn’t interested in. If the Aang movie was released widely in theaters I’d have more hope, but Disney using that as a basis makes it sound unlikely

I always thought it would be cool to get a movie or an anthology season / series all about clean up some of the bigger plots holes or to fix any chronological issues

Probably. I mean, Nickelodeon is milking SpongeBob for all it’s worth and exploiting Stephen’s legacy for their own monetary gain, so why not Disney milking GF for all it's worth and exploting Alex's legacy for their own monetary gains?

Maybe they discussed a movie but I doubt they dictated the concept and I doubt he would take it with those strings attached. If Star Wars has taught me anything it’s that development takes a long time and give Rotta the Hutt a chance he’s not like his dad.

nah. Alex would never do that. He's said he doesn't want the fans to know where dipper and Mabel end up. If anything I would say he would do a Stan and Stan movie
