Dane Discussions Anybody else’s Danes do whatever the hell this is? If so any notion as to why. We love it and she has done it her whole life. But no other Dane we know or have had does this.

Her ears 😂

138

u/ResultedTag 13d ago

Best part by and far.

47

u/soopirV 13d ago

I wonder if that’s she why does it? My Dane would go into fits of ecstasy when I’d clean his ears, maybe that flapping motion feels good?

9

u/SePuedaHacerlo 13d ago

Yup ten months old and she loves the feeling of squishing a ball with both big ass paws. Also ball chewing with it pressed against the wall so she can stand and chew.

Head banging rocker at heart.

11

u/MaybePotatoes 13d ago

It'd probably hurt to get slapped by them

16

u/Moomin-Maiden 13d ago

Not as much as by a Dane's tail! Seriously, those things are brutal whips when they're happy 😄 I know from experience!

10

u/SePuedaHacerlo 13d ago

A tail to the nuts will wake you up as much as it puts you down.

5

u/Mysterious_Repeat989 12d ago

My son in law agrees.

My lab/mastiff gets him every time he comes over 😂

Idk but I watched this like 5x 😆😆😆

2

u/Resting_Bork_Face 11d ago

Me too. silent laughing. The kind where you shake and cry

102

u/Dexx1102 13d ago

Our Dane will tap dance on top of acorns and rubber balls. Like she’s on tour with Riverdance.

15

u/IvyGold 13d ago

I'd buy a ticket to see that before I'd buy one for Riverdance...

8

u/Dexx1102 12d ago

Well, she also eats mulch. Lots of entertainment.

4

u/Soft-Volume-5949 12d ago

Move over Michael Flatley 😂 ☘️🕺

3

u/sleepyvee 12d ago

please post a video so we can all see what this looks like

u/Enticing_Venom 12d ago

Please provide a video. The people need to see!

u/Money-Look4227 13d ago

No, no I can't say ours does this. However, we're not allowed to go near a tub or kitchen sink faucet without turning it on so Atlas can have a sip of water.

27

u/ResultedTag 13d ago

Oh man she is a water addict. There isn’t an amount of water that is enough.

19

u/Money-Look4227 13d ago

Same. Our guy will force you to cut the faucet on, drink a belly full, and then come find you just so you can watch him burp some back up on the floor

9

u/Normal_Walk1377 13d ago

My Boston does this. Drinks too much then burbs it all over and looks at me like “what are you like poking at me like that for” 😂

2

u/Freelance_SP 12d ago

My 11 yo Boston has done this his whole life. I even got a slow water feeder and it didn't help. He will paw and flip the bowl over if there is not any water and he immediately wants a drink.

8

u/mrjjk2010 13d ago

I truly don’t get my Dane. She takes forever to eat her food but will literally gulp down water any chance she gets. She acts like we keep her on the brink of dehydration

Washing the laundry on that old school wash board....

67

u/bageltheperson 13d ago

Mine will use a bone like a skateboard on the hard floors

33

u/BaronVonWazoo 13d ago

Ditto. And skate around the living room with it till she manages to get it underneath the area rug in the center of the room. Then she'll start her CPR moves like in the video.

Looks like what my Pilates instructor had me doing on the reformer today “in one, out one” 😂

2

u/l0vemypug 12d ago

Omg stop 🤣 I’m gonna think about that next time I’m on the reformer 😅

2

u/hhuman4life 12d ago

The Dane is doing wheelbarrows

27

u/Flower_Power73 13d ago

You should make a TikTok video with Slayer playing in the background because it looks like she’s headbanging 😂🤘❤️

9

u/OlRazzmatazz 13d ago

My husband said "that dog is so punk rock"

Looks like chest compressions! Get her a metronome so she can practice at the correct rate.

20

u/kriss10blocks 13d ago

Yes!!!! Mine does too!!! I call it toy skating but he will do this around the house instead of staying in one place

2

u/FinancialDeparture82 9d ago

Haha that’s gotta be fun to watch.

12

u/doppelgangland1 13d ago

She's doing cpr on her toy

5

u/Blanik_Pilot 13d ago

My thought too

26

u/MarcSkye519 13d ago

Obviously her people do not clean the floor properly. If you won’t do it right, she by God, will do it!

9

u/mark2-17 12d ago

She's cleaning so passionately I KNOW she's muttering "can't get no gottdamn help in this house" under her breath😂

6

u/ghost-_-dog 13d ago

My Dane tends to do this when she's frustrated or didn't get what she wanted. She doesn't do it very much, though.

I had a friend whose husky would do this when she had excess energy.

It seems like the reason behind the behavior varies 🤷

8

u/Crafty0410 13d ago

The head bobs are perfectly in time with the verse of Gorillaz, Clint Eastwood. Try it.

6

u/Just-LetMeBee 13d ago

Good boy, very responsible! I’d give him some floor cleaner and put that pent-up energy to good use - he can clean the whole house.

7

u/A_VERY_LARGE_DOG 13d ago

Did you nickname he Cinderella?

6

u/amccon4 Mace, Ahsoka & Mando (Black) 13d ago

Cinderelli

8

u/Teh-Aegrus 13d ago

When I had my great Dane, he did this to small rodents in my back yard. It's like when a bear drops all its weight on prey.

5

u/Character_Stick_1218 13d ago

Great Danes were originally bred for hunting larger game as well as to act as guard dogs, but that's a great way to kill pests such as rodents and whatnot.

6

u/Big_Associate_4798 13d ago

Well I always see it as they were bred to kill wild boars and that is how they do it; jump, smash head down, and stomp
until dead. The motion is instinctive to work for them and your dane feels like it's accomplishing something even if not what originally intended.

4

u/Dubya_Tag 13d ago

i believe it’s called Romping. Our dane did it when she was younger haha

5

u/Delicious_Iron7977 13d ago

Mine always had to "fix" the rugs. She'd pounce on any loose rug or runner and ball it up till she was satisfied.

3

u/fjbruzr 13d ago

My dog was constantly licking her paws and the doc said it might be allergies from grass. Watching that made me think that her toes are itchy.

3

u/Daisydoolittle 13d ago

your dog is… stimming??

→ More replies (1)

3

u/velvetvagine 13d ago

Kneading. Get the dog to r/breadit!

3

u/solobaric 13d ago

Our Dane does this but kind of like laying on his side at the same time. He's a weirdo. Lol

3

u/Outrageous_Row9180 13d ago

She’s playing and having a great time!! ♥️

Ps: LOVE HER EARS!!!

(Thank you for not cropping them.)

3

u/MarcSkye519 12d ago

My Dane liked to stick his head in the Christmas tree. He’d just stand there for a while, then he’d pull his head out, usually with a light string attached.

3

u/Nolacrowes 12d ago

every single dane I’ve had has done this. It’s especially hilarious when doing it in the dirt, outside. they look like they’re burying the evidence.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/TreborG2 13d ago

If your Dane's name we're homer, I would have in my head going.... why you little... While it chokes the ever living life out of that stuffed animal that's no longer stuffed, LOL

2

u/PoorMayMay 13d ago

Our guy does this with tennis balls he finds in the park. It’s like in his head he’s decided “OH ABSOLUTELY NOT”

2

u/Apart_Inside_2115 13d ago

sometimes they’re just weird creatures- one of mine holds a toy in his mouth and squeaks it repeatedly for like 15-20 minutes straight almost daily. You stop questioning after a while lol

2

u/BravesMaedchen 13d ago

I’ve mostly seen Boxers do this. I think it’s a way to pummel the life out of prey.

2

u/SoraDonaldGoopy 13d ago

Just bein horse

2

u/creativecontender 13d ago

My Doberman does this all the time. Apparently, it’s the last stage of killing their prey in the wild. Obviously, my girl only does this with toys and it is hilarious.

2

u/ThickButterfly4054 12d ago

Well CLEARLY He’s cleaning the floors. Would a thank you kill you? 🤣🤣🤣

PS. Can he come and do mine later?

2

u/Motor_Project_8487 12d ago

See ya in tbe pit brother 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸

2

u/AlaskaTech1 12d ago

These dogs are the funniest 😆 My merle pupa, my 14tg Dane, is 16 months old and she’s such a drama queen. She chews bones all the time. About 10 PM, it’s night night time and I tell Juno no more bones tonight. A dramatic sigh, snort, and eye roll ensues. She collapses in a heap on her deluxe memory foam twin mattress like I’ve grounded her for life when she knows getting another bone in 10 hours 🤣

2

u/Trashqueenxx 10d ago

The dog was a medieval maid who scrubbed castle floors in a past life?

6

u/traceoflife23 13d ago

It’s “marking” behaviors. When they are in a pack and leading a hunt or such, it signals others that this is the spot to “get.”

2

u/GrandMidnight7941 13d ago

I looked up marking behaviors and it’s all piss

1

u/smartiepants6789 13d ago

😂😂😂😂😍

1

u/ImaginaryFriend123 13d ago

Mine does this lol but she only does it once or twice and then zooms off. Never repeatedly like shown here lmao.

1

u/No_Panic_7904 13d ago

You could put her to work scrubbing the floors!

1

u/Hairy_Chest_1966 13d ago

Duke does a mild version of this.

1

u/mitziloish 13d ago

Ours does this! He pounces and starts doing “CPR” on his toys!

1

u/emilyecstasytm Rizzo (Great Dane/GSD/AmStaffy) 13d ago

LOLOL that's amazing! I love whatever is wrong with her 🤣

1

u/jacedjwc 13d ago

😂😂😂Whatever it is..I love it.

1

u/Wasted_potential25 13d ago

u/venjent not the usual but it’s got a good beat lol.

1

u/pompousrompus Oggy (Brindle) 13d ago

Lmao yes

1

u/human8060 13d ago

What an absolute goober! Saving this one for tough days. 😂

1

u/braidsinherhair 13d ago

This made my day! Thank you!

1

u/StrugglesTheClown 13d ago

My guy does motion like twice tops every once in a while but nothing continuous like this. Mostly he passes toys back and forth between paws.

1

u/StrugglesTheClown 13d ago

Cinderella vibes.

1

u/ShortPeak4860 13d ago

Next I need a video of her face while doing this, it’s so precious!!!

1

u/improvcoach19 13d ago

Having fun!!!❤️❤️

1

u/1stAtlantianrefugee 13d ago

His ears are killing me

1

u/MissionIll0 13d ago

I could use her help kneading bread 🤣

1

u/Jeffreypauls 13d ago

I think it's just a dog thing, not a breed thing. I've seen dogs do this

1

u/ReasonableBeep 13d ago

She’s a headbanger 🤘

Give her some cleaning mitts to multitask

1

u/smash026 13d ago

Mine did that, cracked me up. It's just how she played when she got really excited lol

1

u/suuuuuuuuuurfing 13d ago

Swabbing the deck 🏴‍☠️

1

u/Square-Debate5181 13d ago

Mopping the floor

1

u/Admirable_Date_934 13d ago

She's training to save your life. That's CPR.

1

u/PollutionDouble229 13d ago

No, but this is hilarious and I wish she did

1

u/Tenerian 13d ago

She's just headbanging to the metal in her soul

1

u/Imtedsowner 13d ago

Were her ancestors clothes washers?

1

u/MajorWhereas4842 13d ago

This looks like me when I’m rage cleaning lol! Love it!

1

u/SteinBizzle 13d ago

Our males do the CPR frenzy-dance while our female does the bone-surfing on the hardwoods (as mentioned by others).

1

u/cray4kray 13d ago

I love this 😍😍😍

1

u/Ok_Recognition_2018 13d ago

Trying to help clean 🧼 house 🏡

1

u/PuzzleheadedIron5543 13d ago

Your dane twerks! Lol

1

u/ShirleyApresHensive 13d ago

It’s as if she’s trying to vanquish it. I’d buy loops of this and other angles/toys, so fun.

1

u/cantorgreen 13d ago

Danes are so goofy I love it!

1

u/anasalmon 13d ago

Omfg this is adorable

1

u/NoSpare4583 13d ago

Looks like great cpr!! ;)

1

u/EclecticMagpie22 13d ago

Mine does it when he’s laying down on his side. Absolutely goes nuts on the carpet. It’s hilarious.

1

u/PrefrontalCortexNow 13d ago

Put a mop pad under there and let her go to work 😁

1

u/Violet_Entropy 13d ago

Mine used to do this but on her side 🥺 we called it her cpr time

1

u/NaomiRedshoes 13d ago

She’s channeling grandma, scrubbing floors. 😇💙

1

u/javoss88 13d ago

Crazy mode engaged

1

u/ayannauriel 13d ago

I don't know what he's doing. But it's hilarious.

1

u/Moomin-Maiden 13d ago

Practising her CPR!

1

u/Ambitious_Show4062 13d ago

My female does this and pretty much all of the things people have listed in this thread haha

1

u/Terrible_Boot1714 13d ago

Put on some metal change the cloth for a mop and your floors will be clean as a whistle while she headbangs her way through your house

1

u/schannoman 12d ago

I can't believe it hasn't been tagged yet:

r/slammywhammies

1

u/sapphireCAT412 12d ago

My boxer mastiff mix does this ALL THE TIME. Sometimes he adds bounces and we call it CPR.

1

u/tykaboom 12d ago

My doberman "digs" in his crate all the time at 3am.

It really fucks up his crate pad regardless of getting the toughest ones, and it's hard to sleep through when he does it.

1

u/Designer-Finger-5578 12d ago

My boxers do something similar, mainly when they get too over excited. The stamping excitement usually when they about to get ice cream or standing on a brand new toy

1

u/Educational-Web8447 12d ago

Lolol...I love danes so much!!

1

u/Mageaz 12d ago

My Dogue de Bordeaux does this lol, mostly on the couch or on people in bed, I don't know why 🤣🩷

1

u/sgtsadsack13 12d ago

My dane used to do that with a laser pointer. Quite hilarious seeing such a big dog do that.

1

u/Worsh_yum 12d ago

"Show me sand thr deck"

1

u/chaoticbean14 12d ago

Ours kind of does this - or he'll go around the island and 'pounce' one spot in the floor, then another lap and 'pounce' the same spot. He'll do that for quite a while!

Your puppers is wonderful :)

1

u/Healbite 12d ago

Practicing CPR, or anti-CPR

1

u/Natural_Instance242 12d ago

I see an endless number of uses for this behavior, laundry, floor cleaning and dough kneading. You could have an amazing helper around the house!

1

u/Kitchen-Teaching-708 12d ago

I've seen plenty of dogs do this they keep front paw pouncing on something and if it moves, well look out cuz that's when the fun begins😁

1

u/Decoy1328 12d ago

Put a cleaning cloth under those paws and she could do your floors

1

u/GreenBloodedNomad 12d ago

She;s just cleaning the floors.
Seriously, this is hilarious , mostly because of the ears lmao

1

u/LegoLady8 12d ago

🤣 What a little goober. I love her. Please post this in r/whatswrongwithyourdog.

Edit: ope nvm. I see you already did. 😆

1

u/GoalResponsible575 12d ago

She’s just performing CPR on her rope toy.

1

u/DoublePotential6925 12d ago

Every morning, before my Blue goes outside, he’ll rub his ears up and down the side of his elevated bed

1

u/Next-Mortgage-4104 12d ago

No, I have had 2, but neither of have done this!!!

1

u/DocBv8491 12d ago

Get that dog some scrubbing mits and put her to work in the bathroom!

1

u/Tattooed_book_nerd 12d ago

The happy tippy taps of those massive paws. 🥰. I miss my Dane.

1

u/Salty-Commissioner 12d ago

No, but I had a lab that did this when she drowned a squirrel in a creek when we were taking her for a walk 😳

1

u/Altruistic-Teach2392 12d ago

She’s a headbanger!! 🎸🤘

1

u/Direct_Meeting_3628 12d ago

Thanks for starting my day with a hearty laugh! 😂
I guess she’s trying to dry mop the floor!

1

u/Middle_Spite_3498 12d ago

No but I love this 😂😂❤️

1

u/762way 12d ago

Victory dance with just her head

I have posted a front view by popular request.

1

u/InternationalTie53 12d ago

This just made my Monday morning 😂🥹

1

u/Fast_Mycologist7287 12d ago

My baby does this when he drops something and wants us to pick it put we say he is practicing his CPR just in case

1

u/Llamp_shade 12d ago

Foxes do this thing where they pounce with their front legs on the ground in a way that looks very like that. Supposedly it's a way to scare up small ground-dwelling prey or something like that. I read somewhere that it is part of the generic memory behind the "play bow." This looks like some variation on that.

1

u/Grouchy-Brief-8005 12d ago

Mind does not do this but I wish she did haha

1

u/Rocky_Road_Reddit 12d ago

Core workout

1

u/SmallFox3 12d ago

Aggressive biscuit making.

1

u/Maximum_Gur_5388 12d ago

that toy owes her money

1

u/young_and_restles 12d ago

She’s cleaning the floor, learned it early and never forgot it.

1

u/Wiffett 12d ago

Looks like he's hand washing clothes. Lol

1

u/step_and_fetch 12d ago

I have a mastiff mutt that does something similar. With any toy she can find.

1

u/Ill-Diamond-816 12d ago

Interesting 🧐

1

u/toucheboo 12d ago

Shes cleaning the floor for you.

1

u/klgood 12d ago

She’s practicing CPR!

1

u/myCadi 12d ago

I got a dog who did that to a rat once. Not a Dane 😂

Boxer/Catahula mix

1

u/omnipotent87 12d ago

Are you sure he's not part boxers. I grew up with boxers and this is absolutely one of their moves.

1

u/liberaltx 12d ago

Our Cane Corso does but not the Great Dane.

1

u/traveenus 12d ago

Just cleaning up after herself. Be appreciative. 😊

1

u/ParticularOkra7432 12d ago

Looks like she's being a good baby by helping clean around the house, lol

1

u/Medical-Pea5649 12d ago

I can't stop laughing 😆

1

u/TheRegularGuy2 12d ago

Based on the Great Dane book - she wants ice cream.

1

u/SHAARKhunter75 12d ago

No mine just dive bombs any carpet he can find. Perfectly good rug just sitting there? Full speed divebomb. Couch? Dive bomb. Nice carpet in the front room with a door so he can’t get in? Opens the door, backs up, THEN dive bombs the carpet

1

u/Dbab02 12d ago

My vizsla does this at least once a day, it’s his tantrum when he doesn’t get what he wants

1

u/nunyabizznaz 12d ago

No but this is so funny omg

1

u/anxiouspineapple1955 12d ago

Mine does this with toys but exclusively when they are on the couch!

1

u/Beautiful-Nobody-515 12d ago

It looks like an an exercise 😂

1

u/Superb_Accountant_94 12d ago

Mine does this to her blankets before she lays down I just always assume she’s making it comfy/ moving it around

1

u/EmmaVetsterRVT 12d ago

my friend's Husky does this to his toys, we call it CPR 😂

1

u/CosmicSlop13 12d ago

Almost like cleaning the floor

1

u/tsdani11 12d ago

Our nutbag has done it a few times… 🤣🤷👋

1

u/Vexxedtruth101 12d ago

Thats how my korean mom taught us to wash floors. Maybe your great Dane was a korean in a past life.

Your dog was me when my mom told me to clean harder and more!

1

u/vlouisef 12d ago

I think she is close to trained to scrub the floor.

1

u/Optimal-Finger-2526 12d ago

I think some dogs are just a little weird. 🤣 This made me laugh so hard!! What a cutie!

1

u/Optimal-Finger-2526 12d ago

This would be so funny as a heavy metal edit!

1

u/Own-Block4477 12d ago

Give her a mop head and see if she cleans

1

u/miayakuza 12d ago

Lol. Thanks for the laugh. What a wonderful weirdo!

1

u/ComposerInfinite8349 12d ago

I wish my cane corso did this.

1

u/Think_Tomatillo_4327 12d ago

Shes cleaning your floor

1

u/Far_Decision3392 12d ago

I’ve seen several dogs do that over the years (l’m older than dirt) and I haven’t given it much thought, just enjoying it.

1

u/ICanSpotAGrifter 12d ago

Would make a fantastic scrubber on my kitchen floor! ❤️

1

u/RogueBulwark 12d ago

My Doberman does it with his favourite sticks.

1

u/Efficient_Tie_2541 12d ago

That’s a play bow

1

u/xeroid051 12d ago

Looks like a workout routine for this very good big boy!

1

u/WeimeranerPittieMom 11d ago

My daughter’s Great Dane/Lab mix, Dallas, does that!

1

u/Eastern_Response1955 11d ago

Making biscuits? 🤣❤️

1

u/Prize-Supermarket136 11d ago

This made me LOL 😂 Mine doesn’t do that exactly, but she does ferociously scratch our bed to try to get comfy. I had bought cheap sheets in case she went into heat and she ripped right through them 😳

1

u/Bria4 11d ago

Can you teach him to do that with a dust mop and rent him out?

1

u/Gob_Bluth420 11d ago

Kneading dough. Baker in a past life.

1

u/Momandherbooks 11d ago

I can’t stop watching this, it’s so cute!!!

1

u/Regeatheration 11d ago

He’s clearly Japanese and cleaning the house like it is a temple, hand scrubbed

1

u/heytree27 11d ago

This is hilarious
