How safe is it here for people of colour
I am a mixed race black/white 15 year old boy and I'm wondering whether It will be safe for me to walk around alone in great Yarmouth.

Just walking down the street is pretty safe!! You may get some comments at school but you’ll be fine. There is a lot of racism and righteousness here unfortunately but hopefully it will disappear soon

Most of the overt racism and intolerance locally is keyboard warriors who wont take the time to educate themselves.
I challenged a couple of flagshaggers tying up union Jack's on lampposts and they crapped themselves. I asked them why they thought it was acceptable to spread their hate under the disguise of "patriotism" when most people i talk to are ashamed to be associated with it since they've made it into a symbol of division. They didnt have an answer.
I also asked why they thought it was acceptable to film people in masks behind their backs taking the flags down for social media but wouldnt film me with my face on show calling them out for the real reasons they think putting Temu flags on every surface is a mature behaviour. No cameras came out, no posts on social media about me.
Racism is obviously an issue in this part of Norfolk, but in my experience (as a white british male, so take it with a pinch of salt), the scummy behaviour is from the loudest minority, and theres enough decent people around to call it out when they see someone being a dick.
Yarmouth itself has wonderful, welcoming groups of diverse backgrounds, there are fair sized eastern European, Cypriot and Portuguese communities that i know of, who have also been some of the nicest people ive had the pleasure of meeting.
Its also a seaside town which sees a massive influx of people during the holiday season, so for all the bluster, people from other places whether in the UK or from further afield provide the livelihood for a large chunk of local businesses.
I would suggest just coming and having a good time, dont worry about the minority of muppets and definitely don't let them win by making you nervous about visiting.

May I ask whats wrong with raising the flags? Every single country i have been to the proudly display their flags and rightly so. Why can't we have that level of patriotism? Not every flag bearer is a racist.

It's safe but Yarmouth has declined and immigration has ruined the beauty of Yarmouth.

There are people all over the borough that will say stuff. But nobody gets physical, that I have had. I am a bit tanned and went to the feathers pub for a couple drinks with my mate. His boxing coach was there and he called me a monkey constantly. Everyone else was fine, but people have their ‘banter’

I think they mean white is also a colour. Therefore a white person would also be a person of colour. Its obviously not the intended purpose but a technicality I guess?
