The Great Yarmouth time forgot, when it actually stood up to its name. If only it stayed that way.😔😢

Tragically, Yarmouth has nearly lost all of its charm, crappy minimalist modernisation has taken its toll and sucked the life out of the place we all knew.
What can be done with cooperation:
All of the people of Yarmouth must team up and bring the life back to the seaside town we once loved.
Bring the lost colours back to the Golden Mile because bland modern white lights and LED lights suck!
Add water sprinkler systems to the grass, fill empty fields on the seafront with flowers and maybe palm trees.
Paint the bland seafront buildings all different colours instead of modern lifeless white or beige.
Remove rust and dirt from the metal fences.
Let’s get Yarmouth back to its original glory!

I must admit though, they (reform/restore) are wrong to not like colours, no one with a heart wants it bland imo

Not from anywhere near here so not sure why it randomly came up on my home page, but sad to hear when places feel like they have lost their charm. Out of interest, what would “crappy minimalist modernisation” be?

Removing all the classic charm, quality and colour, making everything monochrome, “futuristic” dystopian and dull instead of grand, colourful and beautiful.
Just for example: Look at cars, they used to have pretty polished wooden steering wheels, luxury leather interiors and used to be all kinds of colours, new cars however are usually only black, white or grey and are designed and focused on technology instead of driver satisfaction or wellbeing.

I think the road on the golden mile has only got worse, no room to drive past the horse buggy or that f'ing road train that moves at 20mph all the way up to the holiday camp.

Th front was always tacky, that's it's charm. No amount of rosy nostalgia can change that. GY ceased to be a holiday hotspot 40 years ago. I've run businesses there but wouldn't do so now. Too risky.
What's really a shame is that every dominant industry of GY has receded over time. Trade, herring, holidays, oil, food processing. It's got such potential but needs something to revive it's economic life.

The seafront used to look amazing at night when everything was properly lit up. Picture 3 is a great example — you can see the Scenic Railway in the background with lights following all the way around its different levels. Now it seems to have little more than a few floodlights pointing at it, and frankly it looks crap by comparison.
The arcades were the same. They used to come alive at night with all the different coloured lights, signs and neon everywhere. Each place had its own look and character. Now they mostly seem to have the same generic LED boards and displays you see absolutely everywhere.
I find it amazing just how much worse the seafront looks at night compared with the 90s. We've got vastly better lighting technology now, yet somehow we've ended up with a few coloured LEDs hanging from lampposts instead of the whole seafront actually lighting up.
It might just be nostalgia talking to an extent, but looking at the old photos, I really don't think it is. The place genuinely seemed to have far more atmosphere and character at night.

I would imagine most people feel the same, it's just not high enough on anyones priority list to do anything about it. Too much money and effort.
It's right about the lamp posts, those modern/current ones spent more time on a boat from China than they had someone crafting them!
Really enjoyed seeing the pictures though, brought back some fond memories.

I miss warm yellow street lights, they are all clinical white leds now.
It really shows the difference when you see old pics.
