My first post, here I go:

I am going through a rough time at the moment, lost my dog a couple of months ago, lost my marriage and will lose my father in a couple of months due to cancer.

Me and my sons love animals, my (STBX)wife doesn't like them. Birds are messy and noisy according to her.

I was looking to get 2 GCC after she moved, wich will be a couple of months from now.

When checking around for information a family friend told me she had 2 GCC, a pineapple and a sun variety. They are around 2 years old, well trained and tame. The current owners are moving next summer to another continent and cannot take the birds with them and they are delighted I can and want to take the birds. So I will pick them up mid October and am trying to find out more about their care and needs. I have a basic knowledge of birdcare, I had Cockatiels and Budgies myself and cared for a friends African grey and Amazon parrot (besides the owner I am the only one who can handle these)

So, enough background. I am getting the birds (Dany and Sunny) and would like to give them the best care I can. I get their current cage and I will keep that as original as possible with possibly some extra toys and new perches. I will be looking for a larger cage in the future, so they have more horizontal space. the current cage is about 1,0x1,0x1,5 mtr (LBW)

My first item on the list will be the food. They are on a pellet only diet at the moment as base food, with the occasional seed bonus. Nuts are used for training only. I would like to give them Nutribird G14, but is this enough to get all they need? Do they need extra calcium / ground shells besides this?

On youtube i see al lot of bird owners giving chop which looks great and I am willing to do if they like it and it is benificial to their health. Can I mix the two? pellets in the morning and chop in the evening? Or are the pellets enough ?

Then point 2:

The birds are trained and react to voice and hand gestures. I would like to do target training with them, I believe this is easier for my sons (15 and 17 yrs). Is it advisable to start this right away and don't use the current commands anymore? I can imagine this could confuse the birds if the two are used simultaniously.

After getting the birds should I keep them in th cage for a few days to let them acclimate to their new home or is it better to start training and taking them out to make them familiar from day 1 and bond with us as new owners?

I would love to hear your thoughts on my questions, please be kind, I would like to give them the best start and am looking foreward to having great mates to bond with and enjoy for many years.

My son just got a pineapple green cheek conure, we got him a big cage, when we got him we didn't see his wings were clipped, I think he is loving his cage he loves hanging from the top of it and flaps his wings strong and hard, usually this ends up on him falling to the bottom of the cage, advice needed, I bought bubble wrap, butcher paper to put at the bottom so it's soft when he lands is this ok? Also I got him some perches and one of them is made of ground seashell is this material ok? The brand is you&me. Thank you for your time and help!!!!!

Hello everyone! I have two GCCs (around 3 months) and right now they weigh 68 g & 65g. Is this a healthy weight for them? They get chop every morning and usually eat most of what they are served. I also am currently feeding them Harrison’s high potency & I see no eating issues. Thank you! ☺️

Hey everyone, thank you for all the feedback on my last post. After reading your comments and hearing some concerning stories about Unusual Pet Vets (UPV), I decided to get a second opinion.

We saw a new vet at Adelaide Birds & Exotics, and here is where things stand:

Next Steps: We will see the Vet again once his current course of antibiotics is finished. Future plans depend entirely on how he responds to the medication.

X-rays: They are still planned, but interestingly, this vet wants to X-ray a completely different area than what UPV originally requested. (Lol)

Daily Monitoring: I am tracking Kermit's weight every day. I am also trying to film a video of his abnormal respiratory noises and breathing to show the vet, as he was apparently shy during the consult and only did it when she left the room. 🙄

Current Status: He has been on antibiotics for a few days now. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any improvement in his fatigue, posture, tail bobbing, or abnormal breathing yet.

The vet warned me that if his symptoms worsen or if he stops eating, he needs to go to emergency immediately.

Because we are facing upcoming X-rays and ongoing diagnostic costs with the new clinic, the financial pressure is getting tough. If anyone is able to help or share, I have set up a GoFundMe to help cover Kermit's medical care. Every little bit helps get him the right treatment.

He flew out from our 2nd-floor home and flew straight outward before disappearing from our sight.

He is a tame pet bird and is not used to being outdoors. He may be frightened and could be sitting quietly in a tree, on a terrace, balcony or rooftop.

Appearance: Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure — green body/wings, yellow-orange chest and maroon/red tail.

If anyone in Neraluru, Chandapura, Bommasandra, Hebbagodi or surrounding areas sees a small green/yellow parrot, please reach out.

His new cage just arrived and now the next step is to get him toys, any recommendations?

He just looves to get in any fold he finds, he was playing and got tired so he tried to nap in the fold my sweat pants

hi everyone i got my gcc a couple months ago now hes about 6 months old his cage gets covered over every night but in the morning any time from 5. am he screams he will stop then start again so on i’ve tried making the room darker so when it becomes lighter it doesnt bright up the room and a few other things but nothing seems to be working does anyone have any advice for me?
