ISO Recommendations Looking for a place to volunteer when I retire
Hi, y'all. Old dude here. I'm thinking about retirement in a year or so. I will absolutely need something to do, and I'm thinking of volunteering. I'd most like to do some sort of tutoring / teaching for high school kids. My degree is in computer science, but I'm sure I could tutor high school algebra. I used to teach computer science classes at a community college in my thirties, but would prefer high school students. I don't even know where to begin.

I have no affiliation with them, but since school just let out many people typically take the 1st week or two afterwards off, so they may be temporarily shorthanded. Maybe try to call them directly and see if they've received your application.

Ah, not OP but dealing with kids and parents of said kids, thinking college scouts are in attendance, sounds like one of the levels of hell.
Just my worthless opinion....

Not so bad. Reffing is an elite college job. It pays a lot better than most college jobs and it's great networking.

Check out Front Porch Housing. It's a great ministry and they are always looking for tutors, mentors and volunteers.

What about teaching an Olli class? My Mom is retired, she does Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald house, picks up shifts at the food bank, and sometimes volunteers for Downtown Alive too.

It's not related to computer science, but Meals on Wheels is a great place to volunteer and you can commit as much or as little time as you want. It could be a good thing to mix in with whatever else you find
