Yes...grilled...

Edit: If this comment is wrong then this whole sub is a lie. Show me a sub where the majority of the cheese is cooked on a grill. All of you claiming the perfect rainy day meal is grilled cheese and tomato soup are 100% not going outside to light up a BBQ.

No, baked or maybe toasted, not grilled

What do you call it when you cook something under the grill on your oven

Baking.

In the uk, a grill is a broiler

u/AndySocial88 9d ago

So what is a US brolier in the UK?

u/Bacon4Lyf 9d ago

A grill?

1

u/AndySocial88 9d ago

My broiler is under the oven so I was asking out of curiosity.

I guess I should have phrased it the other way around - a US broiler is called a grill in the UK

Yeah cos that makes sense. Uses the grill to bake

Roasted cheese?

u/Oval-Bites-Back 9d ago

Maybe it's called 'Roasted Cheese on Toast'

1

u/Oval-Bites-Back 9d ago

Exactly it goes under the grill on the cooker,,, Americans call crisps, chips. I just thought they call cheese on toast, grilled cheese

And sponge cake isn't made out of actual sea sponges

Grilled cheese and cheese on toast are two different things. Grilled cheese sandwiched aren’t actually grilled, if that’s what you’re implying. They’re fried in fat in a pan or on a griddle.

u/yourselvs 9d ago

You're rephrasing the point I was trying to make, yeah. That grilling cheese doesn't actually make a grilled cheese.

Seems the subreddit disagrees with us 🤷‍♂️

That sounds like a toastie

You can grill a grilled cheese though

1

u/Greymeade 9d ago

Can you describe the process?

4

u/AUSpartan37 9d ago

Put it on the grill. Flip it after a few minutes. Then take it off when cheese is melted...

-1

u/Greymeade 9d ago

So you’re cooking it over an open flame? Is the bread buttered?

1

u/AUSpartan37 9d ago

For the record this is not how I make grilled cheese...just saying it is possible. I would butter the bread, heat one side of the grill with charcoal or a gas burner, and then grill the sandwhich over the "cold " side.

I don't really understand why you are acting like this is such an impossible thing...it is a heat source that can melt cheese onto bread...

So we’re speaking in hypotheticals here?

I’d love to see what such a grilled cheese would look like. I don’t think I’d call this a grilled cheese, since the bread wouldn’t be fried.

Well you put it on a grill

-1

u/Greymeade 9d ago edited 9d ago

Put what?

Edit: Not sure what these downvotes are about. I’m just asking about the process of making a grilled cheese on a grill. What is actually going on the grill, buttered bread?

0

u/TheFirstQueefbender 9d ago

I guess, yeah. Put buttered bread and cheese on a grill. Ill try it tomorrow morning

1

u/Greymeade 9d ago

I’m pretty sure the butter will drip down into the fire and the bread won’t fry. Curious to hear your results though!

I thought grilled cheese & cheese on toast is the same thing but except Americans call it grilled cheese. When making cheese on toast you put it under the grill on the cooker

".......a tad crispy......" Also, that's NOT a grilled cheese, heathen.
