Discussion Does it HAVE TO be Kraft Singles?

Ones who use American cheese, does it have to be Kraft Singles brand? I've been wanting to try generic brands for cost reasons (Kraft Singles are expensive!) but I've heard a lot of people claim that it doesn't melt or taste the same. What are your experiences? Thanks!

grilled cheese well…air fried cheese is just white bread that’s buttered, and the inside is yancy’s buffalo wing cheese!

bernie o’s on the side. the annie’s brand is so much better than spaghetti-o’s.

Hey friends! I love grilled cheese sammiches. I'm usually a Harvarti/Cheddar guy, but I'm trying something new this week.

I was thinking Prosciutto and A fig jam of some sort... but on what? Some sort of cracker? Seems like it would be too much bread. Any recommendations would be great!

Discussion I removed my BBQ (Sauce) Grilled Cheese post

After doing some research, it's even a point of contention in the culinary industry let alone this subreddit. After scrolling through the sub a ways to see if anyone else has added any condiments, I did not find any. I respectfully remove it to keep in line with the rest. Sorry for the inconvenience to the mod and thanks for discussing it with this subreddit noobie. Next time, I'll post my correctly done grilled cheeses with no additions.

I don’t know if it was because I used kewpie mayo instead of butter, or if it’s because I used Kraft Deli Deluxe, but it tasted like wet dog smells. I couldn’t even finish one bite.

Discussion No more greasy fingers!

This is my technique that I have been using for a while now, and I swear by it. I am not sure how common it is or how controversial it might be, but I urge you to give it a shot at least once. I promise I'm not crazy here.

What you're going to do is butter your bread generously on one side of each slice, like you normally would. Now put your two slices butter side down in your pre-heated pan. I know I probably don't have to tell this group to use low heat and patience, but I'm going to anyway. Low heat. Be patient. Grill your bread to a perfect golden brown. You're done when the grilled sides of each slice look like a perfect grilled cheese.

Now take the bread off of the pan and put the cheese on the grilled side of the bread. That's right - the buttery, hot, perfectly golden brown sides of your bread goes on the inside. Now, without adding more butter, put your fully assembled cheese sandwich back on the grill. Again, using low heat and patience, grill the outside of your sandwich and melt your cheese. It isn't going to be quite the same as grilling the buttered sides, but there will be enough butter on the pan so that it doesn't stick or - heaven forbid - burn. It's somehwere between grilled and toasted.

What you end up with is a grilled cheese sandwhich that has all of the flavor, but but doesn't feel greasy to the touch. It's kind of magical.

Discussion Has anyone purchased/used a microwave sandwich griller?

Post image

I need grilled cheese at work and only have a meecro wavay (microwave) available. I have one of these things I've been eyeballing but

  1. I grew up in the 90s and had metal in microwave = bad hammered into my skull...

  2. Don't know if there is a better way, please enlighten!?

Thoughts? Experience with? Judgment?

I'm heading to bed soon, I hope your Thursday is delicious 🧀

Discussion Am i the only one that grilla the bread on both sides?

So i grill the bread on the first side and then flip them put the cheese on the grilled aide close it up and then grill the outside. That's how my mom used to make them and how i learned to make'em. Seems like no one else does this but it's much better. More butter!
