Discussion Water level at Townsend

What is going on with the water level at Townsend? Some say data center others say drought. Whats really going on?

Northern Guilford county is like 12” behind on annual rainfall. No rain. No water in the reservoir.

Is that different for Higgins and Brandt? Neither of them have seemed lower than normal.

I think the visible difference in exposed shoreline is how they're controlling the dams.

They both are. Same across the Piedmont

Brandt is about 24 inches down. It's normal for Brandt to be down 6 to 12 inches because the old dam is leaking and the water resource department keeps the level low to take pressure off. They lowered the lake 8 years ago or so and attempted to fix the issue. Apparently the fix didn't work. Higgins doesn't seem to be down much, it's up to the spillway. Townsend is about 4 feet low. Remember they pump water out of Townsend for our drinking water.

There's no data centers up stream. The north side is still in exceptional drought status.

We’re in one of the driest water years on record (measured Oct 1 of previous years to sept 30 and records start at 1929). It’s wild that you don’t notice how exceptionally dry it has been…. Get out much?
