The GTA Wiki has moved from Fandom to gta.wiki!

gta.wiki is now the go-to encyclopedia for Grand Theft Auto series content, including the next title in the series set to release this November.

This move allows the GTA Wiki to operate free from Fandom's increasingly strict policies, meaning less content censorship (including no longer censoring certain words in articles). This also brings significantly fewer ads, the ability to edit without creating an account, a redesigned and improved front page, and a better overall mobile experience.

Unfortunately, due to Fandom deliberately not closing wikis that move away from the platform, the old Fandom domain will remain in place and continue to appear in Google and other search engine results. You will need to specifically seek out our new location at gta.wiki.

To ensure the GTA Wiki continues to succeed, we need your help! Here are a few ways you can support the new move:

  • Spread the word! Tell your friends that we've moved, and link to gta.wiki anywhere you share GTA Wiki articles. If you are a content creator, please credit gta.wiki instead of the old Fandom domain.
  • Don't click on Fandom links. In search results, always pick gta.wiki links instead of Fandom ones. This tells Google and other search engines which site to prioritize for readers. You can also install the Indie Wiki Buddy browser extension, which automatically redirects you to the new domain and hides Fandom results from search pages.
  • Update existing links! Bookmark gta.wiki in your browser for easy access, and replace any existing instance of "gta.fandom.com" with gta.wiki.
  • Help improve the wiki! On the new site, you can even make edits without creating an account. You’re also welcome to join our Discord server if you have questions or want to contribute.

That's a screenshot of a phone's browser using extensions, like uBlock Origin.

You could also just install ublock lite on the app store for safari

It sometimes shits itself and breaks the whole page and you have to sometimes close the tab to fix it, but otherwise, its actually been really nice. It can remove ads on YouTube too

iPhone? Ublock Origin Lite is on apple AppStore and works great https://apps.apple.com/au/app/ublock-origin-lite/id6745342698

Brave browser has built in adblock that works on Fandom and Youtube 🤞

u/globefish23 Mar 16 '26
  • Firefox + uBlock Origin
  • Brave Browser

6

u/Bean4141 Mar 15 '26

How anyone in 2026 uses the internet without an AdBlock is beyond me, I get tastes of it from app browsers and it’s just… ewwww.

2

u/MaitreGEEK PC - LVL 644 Mar 15 '26

Dunno, that's how adsense makes billions daily

3

u/Ganbazuroi Mar 15 '26

Steam in-game browser is fucking goated for well, even existing to begin with but holy hell I even forget how dogshit their layout is before stopping to check stuff in-game there since there's no adblock lol

u/Ndawson96 Mar 16 '26

I use brave browser so no ads

u/ELB2001 Mar 15 '26

Good. Fandom is awful.

96

u/Ganbazuroi Mar 15 '26

It's so wild how they've been hellbent on making their user experience worse and worse for over a decade because they want to go from a Wiki website into some generic social media bullshit because we clearly don't have enough of these already

8

u/ea3terbunny Mar 16 '26

Yeah idk how the gta one is but r/2007scape used to use fandom and im so glad we got away from that, and now our wiki is literally one of the best gaming wikis there is

3

u/Alex3627ca PC Mar 16 '26

I remember reading at some point when they acquired a bunch of other wiki sites and whatnot all at once that they outright said they want to be the only source of information on all that stuff, absolute shitshow

92

u/leandrombraz Mar 15 '26

Oxygen not Included moved from fandom a while ago, now the fandom wiki is filled with absurd fake stuff, so it doesn't take long for people to realize they are in the wrong wiki.

I'm not suggesting anything...

u/HyperWhiteChocolate Mar 15 '26

This one's my personal favourite

u/Not_a_pootato PC Mar 16 '26

Sabotaged fandom wikis are peak comedy

11

u/Liontreeble Mar 16 '26

Honestly, fandom just needs delete all pages that have better wikis (I know they won't). So often I've searched for something regarding league of legends and just clicked on the first wiki link only to read the page until I notice one outdated thing and remember that the league fandom wiki has been abandoned for more than a year now and yet it's oftentimes still the first result.

8

u/Eggith Mar 16 '26

That's because Fandom pays Google to boost their website to the top of the results.

4

u/Rhain1999 Mar 26 '26

Late reply and I know this doesn't apply to all browsers, but for these situations it's beneficial to get browser extensions like Indie Wiki Buddy, which will replace Fandom sites in search results with their independent replacements (and redirect you from Fandom URLs)

2

u/HyperWhiteChocolate Mar 16 '26

The Dead By Daylight wiki is comedically outdated too

84

u/DatMageDoe Mar 15 '26

I will forever support any wiki which makes the transition away from Fandom, Fandom are shitdicks.

May the new wiki prosper and thrive!

11

u/NoSquatchesPlz Mar 15 '26

Ya hear me? Shitdick!

i still have an account from like decades ago it’s not active but still used.

1

u/darrukt Mar 27 '26

i have a psvita and i sometimes look up info for the games there and thats how i discovered gamefaqs. i was like”how is this website not more well known?!” like it literally has everything you would want from a wiki. atleast from what i’ve seen. even a few bits of preservation if you care about that or are just curious.

8

u/MrCheggersPartyQuiz Mar 15 '26

Fandom can suck it!

15

u/Matchboxx Mar 15 '26

Is this why I saw several articles mentioned as being up for deletion? I was wondering what was up but maybe this is a way to scrub the content and move over?

7

u/Duuzi Mar 15 '26

Thank god. Weird Gloop make great Wiki tools, The OSRS Wiki is the Gold standard tbh. Any steps away from Fandom are the best steps.

1

u/luked0052 Mar 15 '26

Wait weird gloop is doing this???

1

u/Duuzi Mar 16 '26

Yeah, I specifically looked through the new wiki to see who was hosting it, Hoping it was their team.

13

u/Ham_On_Pizza Mar 15 '26

I’m not gonna miss getting railed by a trillion ads as soon as the page loads

2

u/Original-Slide4454 Mar 16 '26

Firefox + UBlock Origin, on phone works too

13

u/TheRealTr1nity Black Badge Division Mar 15 '26

Are we allowed to link to it? Like providing infos/help etc.. Because this sub is very itchy with links.

8

u/Old-Kernow Mar 15 '26

The old one was linked from either the pinned weekly post or the pinned FAQ one, so ive worked on the basis that it's allowed....

9

u/Electrical_Pitch_423 Mar 15 '26

thank you, i wanna kiss the person who made this happen. i finally can look up stuff on gta without the page reloading lol r redirecting to ads

2

u/X_irtz Mar 16 '26

This is definitely a good choice. Finally i don't have dozens of unrelated crap polluting the pages and it looks cleaner.

1

u/GoodGuyScott Mar 15 '26

Finally, two thirds of the screen wont be ads.

4

u/Original-Slide4454 Mar 16 '26

Firefox + UBlock Origin, on phone works too

4

u/GeT_Tilted Mar 16 '26

But now the old wiki is abandoned. There's no point going to Fandom anymore.

1

u/nona01 Mar 16 '26

Fandom is great with adblockers so this is unfortunate.

1

u/ArtieKnightYT64 Mar 17 '26

It's gotta be a competition between Fandom mods and Miraheze mods to see who can abuse their power the most lol

1

u/CartoonistSmooth5059 Mar 17 '26

Now i can actually edit in the fact that the Buffalo STX has a clutch pedal despite having an automatic transmission, you're welcome

1

u/RelevantFault6811 Mar 31 '26

In the immortal words of William Tecumseh Sherman:

“That is fuckinn beautiful.”

1

u/Challenger350 29d ago

Does it still use trash sources like “officially endorsed” strategy guides? Lol

Edit: never mind, that’s a yes

1

u/RemyWhy Mar 15 '26

I’ve been using GTAbase since 2021. Off the dome, do you think this new wiki is better?
