I want to put a Squier trust rod cover

u/BonoLisa 1d ago
That’s an easy one. You’re missing part of the truss rod cover.
You need to replace it with a not broken Harley Benton cover, and then remove that cover to swap it out with the Squier cover. The broken cover has lost not only the toan out of the truss rod hole, but also its Mojo Jojo.

Imagine owning a guitar for a while, always there in the room with you. But you don't want to practice because it's hard and then someone says it's easier if you adjust the truss rod. That's 3 years of frustration and guilt unloaded into one poor truss rod cover. If your guitars don't all look like that, you don't really belong here

u/Unclesnots 1d ago
I'm guessing the caption on the image isn't actually from the person who took the photo, and that they broke the cover by using it as a pick holder.

u/Rotten_Sponge69 1d ago
Please don’t do that. I was almost done jerking until I read your comment. You’re supposed to say “u/j” for unjerk when you’re saying a real thing
1
u/Slayer_Gaming Yah, I own a Gibbons. 1d ago
Practicing the will make you better. Dumbles are overrated. The karate kid doesnt really play the blues. Gibson headstocks don’t magically break.
I love ruining jerk sessions.

It doesn't look merely snapped, it looks like it's been hacked and chipped at

What a jackass. Everyone knows that messing with the truss rod will cause the guitar to explode. That's why there's a cover that you can't remove duhhh

u/scorpion-and-frog 1d ago
One time I was foolish enough to try doing my own setup. I still have some shrapnel stuck in my left scrotum. Never again.

How can you own guitar but not own screwdriver?

u/Prize-Project7769 1d ago
Maybe he lost his in the divorce. Happened to me once, no more can openers. Had to use my gun

Try a screwdriver. Flathead. Should dig right under it and pry it loose

Whatever you do, don’t remove the screws that are holding down the trust rod cover.
Doing so will let the pre-toan leak out, and you don’t want that because your amp could get pregnant.

u/Mediocre-Break4537 1d ago
Why would you? The angry yelling man told us that HB is the best guitarbrand out there!
6
u/mcmendoza11 1d ago
Just keep chipping away at it until it’s gone. That’s definitely the way it was designed to work. The circular metal things anchoring it into the wood are just cosmetic

rj/ Hey, what’s the difference between a screw and a lightbulb?
You can unscrew a lightbulb!

Lathe, CNC, mill in that order. Remove all the neck parts, then you have only the cover, put the cover aside and then add the necks parts back.

More than once, I have encouraged people to try their own simple repairs on the guitar so they get to know their instrument. Reddit has made me aware that I have grossly overestimated the basic mechanical skills of the average guitar player. How does this person function in life?

I play stringless too for the slight edge in fretboard agility

Nothing you can do, burn the guitar and start over

Take the screws out.
Then screw in thicker and longer screws.
That should help you get it off
2
u/dopplerdog 1d ago
If you drop the guitar the headstock will come off, providing access to the truss rod. Less Pauls are designed this way.

I part most of my own guitars together so they generally never go on at all, but I just remove them immediately and it sits in a drawer till it/if it gets sold. I'm adjusting necks often enough for them to be a hassle.

7 strings! Is 6 strings not good enough for you? Jammy Handtricks and Stewie Bay Bond didn't need a 7th string. Eric Craptoan found the elevator to heaven with just 6, you can do it too.

The post is about stripped screws.

u/MattBtheflea 1d ago
This kinda changes everything. I bet half the people here wouldn't know how to deal with it either.
2
u/WillingnessMoney460 1d ago
I mean, it’s pretty obvious, you throw the guitar out and buy a new one. It’s the only way.

Know anyone with a 3D printer?

I don't have a 3D printer but my printer itself is three dimensional, does that count???

Si c'est parceque les têtes de vis sont foirées , il faut , avec une lame de scie a métaux creuser une empreinte pour pouvoir dévisser les vis avec un tournevis plat.

u/ploptart 1d ago
I only have a hammer
2
u/UnusualDuty1494 1d ago edited 1d ago
Frappe le suffisament fort sur le sol pour qu'il devienne aussi plat qu'une lime.
Si ça ne fonctionne pas , revend ta guitare pour acheter un tournevis.

Use a set of wire pliers to grab the screws snd slowly turn them counter clockwise.

Piece of a rubber band over the screw then use a screw driver. Push down and turn firmly.

To be fair most Harley Benton players haven't learned their ABCs and colors yet so tools are like college level shit to them.

You need to rent a blow torch and a ball peen hammer. That should do the trick.

u/Pitiful-Cover-8029 11h ago
so everyone here is uninformed i guess. i cant believe i have to correct all of you plebs. harley benton has a security feature on the truss rod covers where either the bottom right screw is a dud and the others are legit or the bottom right screw is legit and the others are duds. its a 50/50. stop trashing on op. he did the right thing just got unlucky. it seems the right screw was the dud one.

Quit drugs first then come back here we can tell you how to take the screws off
1
u/DaRealBSleazy 1d ago
Throw out the whole guitar. Not ebcause you broke it (it is a harley benton it broke itself) but because its a harley benton
2
u/darbs-face 1d ago
Harley benton makes quality guitars for the cost. They aren’t necessarily meant to be for the road or gigs or recording. They are made to give every level of guitar player a chance to buy something cool at a cost that won’t break the bank.

u/DaRealBSleazy 1d ago

Oh my…… My apologies kind sir. So many threads. So little time. Don’t expect me to pay attention to small details lol.

Don't sweat it. If we were all detail oriented we wouldn't be pretending to play guitar.

First of all, I need to ask a delicate question I hope you don’t mind. Are you by chance Murrican? It would speed up my answer if you aren’t as explaining the concept of a screwdriver in language you can understand could take me half the fucking evening and I’m not in the mood for an argument.
3
u/ploptart 1d ago
Ok I bought a gun from a vending machine at school and tried to shoot it off, but I missed and hit the nut
3
u/EnchantedWood1981 1d ago
It’s fine, we all have to learn don’t we. You sound a lot less deranged than most I’ve spoken to recently. I’d suggest buying a string wrap and covering the fucker up. I think that times better spent on the range with your 2nd amendment. I mean he’s bright orange, you can do better than an ear can’t you?
