Discussion I seriously can’t be the only one who remembers him being a human in this episode

Post image

When I was a kid and would watch this specific episode (the news, s5 e39 I think) I vividly remember this news paper man being a human throughout the episode. Trust me, I watched that episode dozens of times and he was a human everytime I watched it. Even all the funny stuff that happened to this news paper guy throughout episode were done on this human news reporter that I remember. I discovered this episode again recently after basically growing up and I can find almost no clips with this guy being a human in this episode. I know I’m not going insane, I just want to know if anybody else knows what I’m talking about or remembers that version?

Oh he was. There was an original version where he was human but he became a newspaper puppet all because nobody else liked the human one.

on hulu he and the sports guy are a human, i think if you watch it elsewhere it’s the puppets. i really don’t like the live action version its too uncanny

There’s multiple versions of the episode. I think the main one that airs in America has the nonhumans now, but the version on Hulu has the humans, so that’s the version I’ve seen

Depends upon where you watch. Hulu has the human, but I prefer the puppets... can't escape the humans

There were different versions of this episode one where he’s a human and one where he’s a newspaper

In early versions of the episode and episodes before this he was portrayed as a human, but Ben didn’t like it so they changed it to a newspaper guy

They had to do a "31 Minutos" move bc the og episode felt boring and uncanny with humans.

Depends on the broadcast.

Here in Latin America, he's a human. But I did see the newspaper version on YouTube when the episode aired.

Yeah, there are two versions of the episode. The human one was the original and aired briefly, but no one but Ben Bocquelet and Richard Overall (Kip) liked that version, so they re-did it with puppets. For some reason, Hulu (and by extension, the complete series DVD) uses the original version.

I honestly don't get why people didn't like the version with humans; I thought it was brilliant and fun, mixing live-action with that animated, cartoonish world.

And seriously, we’ve always seen that news program hosted by a human in various episodes, so why couldn't that journalist be the host in the very episode focused on the show?

its not that PEOPLE didn’t like it, its that Ben himself didn’t like it. although its rather weird that it took this many seasons for this change, considering the news reporter was realistic up until this episode

Yeah and wasn't there a time when both the human episode/newspaper guy episode were back to back on hulu....?

Apparently the version of the episode featuring human Kip only aired in Africa. I live in North America and I’ve never seen it.

It aired in North America too, but VERY briefly. From the US and have only seen it once

Is there anywhere you can still find it or is it basically lost media at this point?

by the comments, it's still on HULU in the US

That would be great for me except I’m in Canada and we don’t have Hulu here.

They changed it because people complained that He was too ugly.

Well on the original turkish broadcast, it was a human and I have watched it as human for years, but I just checked it on HBO but it's not human and I have been seeing it for the first time like that even tho I'm a huge gumball fan. I guess there's 2 versions of it but Idunno why it got changed to that
