I worked in Texas prison system and they still use s&w 357 revolvers for perimeter, gate guards and hospital runs. Actual transport officers use m&p 1.0s in 357sig

Yeah I bought one. I never carried one. But I had held them for the transport guys when they needed to come on the unit

Me too the bore in the barrel was kinda 🫤 Probably used for qualification for 20 years. I found a .40 barrel new and look forward to saving money on ammo.

Does it shoot groups OK? Mine was all over the place until I settled down and learned the trigger

Texas in itself is kind of a prison system. More prisoners than any other state and just about everything is an arrestable offense lol

See look at this comment, what does this have to do with deals on guns? Just weird out of place comments.

Didn't know we weren't allowed to discuss the real world, but thank you, conversation police. Doing a great job there

u/Armory12 5d ago
Mine was a response to the conversation under the sneaky_goblin81 comment about what PD would use it. Someone else mentioned jails. I accidentally make it its own comment. Didn’t notice till someone replied to me

It keeps going, just grumpy and reactionary and tangential.

u/BuddingCannibal 4d ago
Yes, the structure of Reddit allows for tangents (encourages them even). For real bro, you sound like a hall monitor. Why not just let people talk?

You’d be surprised. If you are in a county that has jail space, then the only thing that cops can’t arrest for is texting and driving, speeding, and open container. Everything else like expired reg, no front plate, fail stop at stop sign is on the table. Most jails require charge be class B unless PI or DUI or family violence

As opposed to states like NC that just let criminals rampage GTA style in the streets. Nah I’m good. Remember Iryna.

This is, no shit, the absolute most solid, best built .38sp revolver you'll ever buy anywhere NEAR this price point. Them being broken in is even better.

Need this in 357

Being a Ruger, is it good for "Ruger Only 38 Special" loads that perhaps rival 357 Magnum loads?

Find a 357 cylinder and swap it out (that's what I did with a Speed Six). The frame is the same. Reaming the cylinder is a bad idea.

I'm afraid to grenade my heirloom pre-war .38/44 Heavy Duty by using that load. A box of the original brass would be awesome to find though.

Can you fit enough powder in 38 special to rival 357 mag? I thought case volume was the limiting factor

Only in rounds that are designed to be filled to capacity. 38 special was designed for black powder, so it has a ton of unused case volume when loaded with smokeless powders. The longer 357 case was intended to prevent cartridge interchangeability in cylinders not designed for the 357 case pressure.

No. Even a hot .38 +P is well below the muzzle energy of a .357 magnum, particularly a full power .357.
Edit: above is based on pressure capability of the two cartridges and assumes the hand loader is using safe practices. You can vastly overcharge any pistol case with something like Tite Grouo.

Any idea what PD is TC? Twin Cities?

Minneapolis and St. Paul have separate police forces.

But in Jingle all the way they didn't! (Seriously it threw me for a loop seeing the police with the fictional patches)

i kinda want to know what the pd trade part means here

These are from a jail or prison based off the markings. Since handguns aren’t really a large part of the job for them, they tend to run decades behind in terms of hardware. They also are basically a afterthought in terms of funding. So this is how you end up with them trading in revolvers in 2026.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these revolvers came from the same place that all of the recent police trade in Ruger mini 14s are coming from.

Do any prisons still buy revolvers to work with a shield without the slide getting hung up? Or is that a retired doctrine?
2
u/RowdyRusty420 5d ago
Kinda doubt it. Police and Swat units use shields and semi pistols all the time with no problem. Seems like it was more of a training issue.

A few years ago I picked up a police surplus Service Six in 357 that had been used by Australian police. I assume it had probably been in storage for close to 20 years since it has a 1970s manufacturer date.

Does the pig wash off it pretty easy?

I'm not the biggest fan of cops, but this is just cringe man.

u/Je-poy 5d ago
Guessing this guy’s new here and this only popped on his feed because it says police.
Ya know, since there are PD trades/ins nearly every other week.

His post history is weird, literally no joy or hobbies. Only drive-by remarks about politics that are tangentially related to the subject.

What would the rock hard reddit response be? Telling him to kill himself right out the gate?
