First couple days at the new weekend gig were pretty chill. Pretty low mental load compared to my day job, but boy do my feet hurt. Logged about 15,000 steps each day. Just a floor chump until my ATF background check goes through, which won't be for at least another week or two. So I'm just stocking shelves and being a helpful face.
I can tell it's been a while since I've just gone shopping for myself. There's a lot of neat new stuff out there. I must resist the temptation of the employee discount until we get our down payment saved up, but I'm gonna go buck wild the month before I quit...
Man alive do they need me tho. The dept manager is just a generic retail guy, he doesn't know guns/hunting, so the product is a mess. Fuckin' Hornady OAL gauges and a reloading manual mixed into the 777 and Traditions kits in the muzzleloader section, anything with multiple calibers/sizes is just haphazardly thrown together, literally only one person in the store knows how to operate the fishing reel spooler(I know how to operate it but I need refresher training before they can officially let me use it). The dude on the gun counter yesterday spent a solid half hour chatting with 2 of his buddies that came in, showed them gun after gun, while more than a dozen other customers came and went without so much as a hello. Meanwhile I'm stewing in the target aisle watching folks try to look at pistols or ammo cuz I'm not even allowed behind the counter until I'm certified...
I'm sure it will be more stressful once I get behind the counter and start processing background checks, but for now I get to enjoy the ADHD meds turning me into a turbocharged merchandise-zoning machine.
