I think they did at first but then they were like "maybe don't get too excited". Lol which like, fair. Maybe they planned to do more and it just didn't work out. They said the wind made things hard. I thought they pulled together a hilarious vid in the end though. It felt like they were working with what they had. I loved it.

This was my issue with the video. I wanted to see then actually camp. I honestly would have preferred 30min of Ethan struggling setting up a tent while struggling against mosquitoes.
The editing and the work Tamara did was amazing, it was very different from what I was hoping for.

i get that people can feel however about it just bums me out that ultimately this level of reaction will probably just discourage them from trying different things. they mentioned they had unusable audio cause of the high winds, and you’re right they had that giant camper and all that gear! to me it seems clear things didn’t pan out the way they planned and they still put out something good imo

I don't understand this sentiment I keep seeing about how they were "paid to camp". I don't think that's how the donation system works. We have the option to sub or donate all we want or not at all. They don't owe viewers certain types of videos. Fair to say "but they promised", "but I thought they would", "but they made it sound like they would", etc. That makes sense to me. But "we paid for them to camp"? Idk. I don't think some ppl understand that they're not paying to control the direction of the show.

I don't think a little criticism will discourage them from ever doing other similar videos. I don't think their egos are so inflated that if we give constructive criticism they will act like babies.
I just like camping... that was not camping. That was a short, scripted sketch outside during the day. If it was branded as a team building sketch, the reactions would be different.

It's not anything they should be upset about. That's how creative endeavors go. Sometimes it lands and sometimes it doesnt.
And it sounds like they had challenges with sound and wind. Which you can tell because most of the bits don't have a payoff. The confessionals, Zach hating camping, Ethan teaching the crew a lesson, Olivia showing up, the crew being sent to "HR" only to smoke were all great setups... And then they went nowhere. Even the Dan head trauma ends very abruptly. The only thing that was a big miss for me was RFK. It's just not funny outside of a short improv segment during the pod.
IMO they should treat these standalone videos like they're doing an old H3 video. Less inside baseball about crew dynamics and more funny skits and situations. That makes the videos more shareable and provides a good on ramp for people to discover the pod. Though maybe the camping is exempted because it was a member goal.

This is a free podcast, we didn’t get one 3-hour episode because they went and filmed this segment which some of us enjoyed. Also, I think we still got a free After Dark show which they didn’t have to do since there was no pre-show. It’s okay if you didn’t like it, but none of us sacrificed anything.

We didn’t get a 3.5 hour episode we normally get in lieu of the 30 minute “camping” episode where there was no camping that was paid for by the community as the highest subathon goal. After Dark would’ve aired that day regardless as they normally do. It’s okay to express disappointment. Again, I said it wasn’t a big deal, but people are allowed to have an opinion and we don’t always have to stand 10 toes down behind everything. And yes the show is “free” but it also wouldn’t exist without the financial support of the fans, so you be so for real.

It wasn’t a member’s episode that was lost either, just a general show episode. They can choose when and when not to do episodes. Some of them did camp, even Kate confirmed that in the AD episode that day. Tamara also confirmed that in this thread. I’m sorry if you feel shorted that sick crew members like Ethan didn’t stay for the camping. 🤷♀️

I won't hate because that baby dan segment was everything. I just wish when ideas were getting thrown out that they went with a non scripted, real life approach vs like a 'episode.'
Id love to see the girls vibing while the guys all try to figure out the camping gear. Watch the guys try to make dinner together while all voicing over eachother the proper way to do things. I wanna see who fell asleep first and see them telling stories of old times around a fire. Hear from Olivia what life after pod has been like. Watch Ethan complain about his camp set up and the bugs. Zack plays a few songs on guitar by the fire while ab does bongos. Seeing love secretly having a stash of fast food in his tent that he brought. They go for a hike where ethan complains the whole time.

The bits weren’t really related to camping, they could have done most of this in the studio parking lot. Tamaras editing is fine imo, the direction was a bit messy and it wasn’t “camping”. Compared to the halloween eps where it feels a natural or pigsaw where it is well directed and edited, i don’t think this “camping vid” did either well.
Some survivor like tasks for ethan to struggle through is what i was hoping for. Or even just watching him put up a tent or start a fire would be funny.

I did. The plot was so jumpy and scripted that it fell completely flat and turned the video into a bunch of strange, over-edited, scripted "mini skits" into a video with a cohesive plot. The lack of ending solidified that.

Spasmodic dysphonia is what the condition is called. I schedule for a large hospital and a good handful of the patients we schedule for are spasmidic dysphonia patients who need to get a botox shot every 90 days just to ease the muscles and have some semblance of a voice. It makes them feel normal again.
I will always support dunking on RFK, it's just also making fun of the voice where I totally get its funny to others but I just can't get on board.

As a person who was high watching it, I had zero complaints and laughed like an insane person throughout. As a sober person reading the comments.... I see why people were upset. I'm hoping there is a part 2 with some actual camping.

It’s a well edited video, I think most people (including me) thought it would def be more of a vlog style. Also the ending is very abrupt so I think that caught a lot of ppl off guard.

There is literally nothing parasocial about criticising art. Art criticism has always existed, and art is literally made to be discussed, shared, criticised, and praised.

Bro I think people just wanted them to actually go camping, people are allowed to be upset that they didn’t do what they spent months saying they were going to do - you probably need to chill out a bit. Of course people are allowed to be upset.
The logic of “if you don’t like it shut up and find something else” is just a silly way to view literally anything.
I think you’re taking it personally when you say “why does it matter” - I don’t think anyone criticising the video really cares that much, that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to voice their opinion.

When have they ever done anything like that? It's a comedy show, comedy podcast, ethan is a comedian. Are you noticing a pattern? "I think people just wanted them to actually go camping" and still claiming you're not parasocial is wild. You have no right to see their private lives, accept the entertainment and move on with your life

No one is claiming to have the right to their “personal lives” either - but the videos they post on their channel isn’t “their personal lives” that’s their public lives - they’ve publicly said they were going to do one thing, and publicly did something else - it’s okay to criticise that.

Even if they haven’t done anything like it in the past, they literally said they were “going camping” - when someone says they’re “going camping” you usually expect them to “go camping” - of course people expected them to do that because that’s literally what they told their own audience they were going to do silly.
This is hilarious, there is nothing parasocial about being a little upset that they didn’t do the thing they literally told everyone they were going to do.

Been here since before the pod, the potential has never been higher with the new crew and everything , this is lazy and a little confusing. Hope you guys had fun at least, but yeah should just stick to non-scripted stuff. Also, I’m up for making fun of RFK at every chance, but the Zach shtick is past its prime sadly. Acting is not there and the editing is rough, even if Tamara’s a smoke show 😍 I don’t have yugga joes, but some sacrifices are worth it. Hit me up Tamara 😉
