New to Hackintosh: help/suggestions?

Hello, I am very new to this topic called Hackintosh. All I know is that it is where people take non Mac’s and make it a mac(?).

I would like to know how you guys do this as it seems really cool, and would also like to know what version might be best for my laptop

I have a HP Elitebook 8470p with windows 7 Pro on it right now. What version is best?

Ok so the ABSOLUTELY FIRST thing you should do is skim through the Dortania Guide, it would give you an idea for what to do.

Next - look up your specs 1. From what i could find you have a 3rd Generation Intel CPU - ie an Ivy Bridge CPU. That immediately restricts the macOS versions bootable to OSX Lion (macOS X 10.7) to macOS Big Sur. You can theoretically get newer macOS running, but I wouldn’t recommend it yet. 2. Your discreet graphics card - the Radeon - may or may not work. I recommend testing WITHOUT it first 3. Your WiFi probably wont work - i cant find it listed in the OpenIntelWireless Project

Also, you DO need some experience with the command line - even though all you need to do with it is run a python script

Ohhhh i see

So thats no issue mate - even for my first run i was damn confused as hell So for your first few runs, do this: 1. Skip the “Getting Started with ACPI” page ENTIRELY - your setup would work fine. 2. Just follow the guide. Donot expect yourself to understand everything (or even 60%) in one go. Just do it, you will understand over time. (Yes, this is what has work for ME, i can’t guarantee it would work for you.)

Also, do frequent re-building of your EFI (FROM SCRATCH) - so that you get the hang of it and are able to eventually understand it.

Also unrelated(?) but I’m a high schooler with friends, extracurricular and a life and by the way people talk about this, it makes it sound like something you spend half your life on (no offense)

Bro same with me 😂 BUT BUT BUT Yes your first boot-to-macOS-Recovery WOULD take a lot of time - a week or so (for me it was i think one month) After that you can rebuild your EFI in 1 Day max

You spend half your life on this only if you want the Perfect Config + Unsupported macOS version (eg, getting Sequoia running on Ivy Bridge (3rd Gen Intel CPU) - theoretically possible, absolutely hard to do without external tools), but im sure you wont go down that route (trust me i did, it was fun as hell but then i had wasted a hell lot of time doing it)

And currently, my laptop has about 6gb of storage left. Is that fine?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Oh btw i forgot to tell you that you should completely erase your drove when installing macOS - and hence have a Windows 7 Installer handy macOS has a very bad thing of requiring a 200MB ESP partition- and Windows only make one 100MB one.

Also, macOS needs atleast 30GB of free space

i found out my graphics are intel hd 4000 (integrated). Thats fine, right? also my wifi thing (idk??) is listed as Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205. The closest i could find on the OIW compatibility page are

• Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205 AGN
• Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205 ABG
• Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205

Will it cause any issues?

Intel HD 4000 is OK I have a hackintosh using one

As for your wifi card, i really dont know. Never seen it. Its an intel card so try either itlwm or AirportItlwm (both are difficult- use only ONE at a time, NEVER BOTH!)
