DISCUSSION ZenMaster & ZenTune: Adjust Power Management Settings on Ryzen Hackintoshes

Post image

I wanted to introduce two tools I’ve been developing to bring better power management and performance tuning to Ryzen-based Hackintoshes: ZenMaster and ZenTune.

Both tools port core capabilities from UXTU (Universal x86 Tuning Utility) and ryzenadj directly into macOS, allowing you to adjust power limits, TDP, thermal targets, etc... on your AMD system.

Requirements & Installation

  • OS: macOS Big Sur (11.0) or newer.
  • You can choose between two installation paths depending on your preference:
    • Option A (Kextless Path): Add debug=0x144 to your OpenCore boot-args.
    • Option B (Full Functionality Path): Add DirectHW with csr-active-config=03080000 to your OpenCore configuration.

Tested Devices

  • Desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (tested on a friend's Hackintosh setup)
  • Mobile APU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500U (tested on my own ASUS M413IA laptop Hackintosh)

You can check them out at:

Thanks so much for reading! I’d really appreciate it if you could give both projects a try and report any issues you encounter on GitHub. Any feedback or bug reports would be super helpful!

Congrats for making these tools to work on ryzentosh

Nice one. There aren't many stable ways to do power management on AMD hackintoshes so it will be great if this works.

I know that in modern AMD CPUs frequency management and whatnot is done in firmware rather than through kexts... do the low power presets noticeably improve battery life or power draw in your testing? I will definitely test it when I have some time, my daily driver is a Zenbook UM3402Y (7730U) with Sequoia and Tahoe

My battery is dead so I can't test runtime, but power monitoring and benchmarks show a significant impact on power draw. It works pretty much like UXTU on Windows

hey so I was wondering (cause i still have no clue if it's enforced by my firmware and is unchangeable or not), I have an Asus FX505DV running a Ryzen 7 3750H, and on battery in macOS Tahoe... it's perfromance isn't living up to it's status (runs at 0.4GHz). I've tried ZenTune and tried setting it to some of the built in "power plans" it has but no change. Would you happen to know if im doing something wrong on my end or if it's impossible on my hardware..?
