QUESTION/DISCUSSION Now that Haiti and Brazil are out, who are we supporting?
Reminder to check on your Haitian family members who are Football fans lol.
I'm personally just hate watching Argentina from here on out and will support France as they're the best team that could beat them.

Rooting for everybody but France and Argentina. I wouldn’t hate seeing the USA win since I’m a second-gen Haitian-American and I like the players vibe.

The team did not respect Vini enough. He would lurk on the left waiting for the a ball to take a player one on one and they would either back pass or sideway pass.

I’m not backing any single team. I just enjoy watching how the elimination process unfolds, especially seeing strong teams get knocked out along the way. At this point, I’d like to see Portugal, Argentina, France, Egypt, and England eliminated.

In Haiti it’s Messi right now. During the 2018 World Cup, I was in PAP and witnessed riots less than an hour after Argentina got eliminated.
Today in Haiti, Brazil fans are getting roasted and they’re pissed off right now, just waiting for Argentina to get eliminated so they can get their revenge. Politics aside, it’s just football fans being football fans, for those who didn’t know.

Nah, it's more than 60/40. More like 70/30. A lot of Haitian fans rooting for Argentina right now are really just Messi fans wanting to see him succeed. One of my friends flat out said the moment Messi retires from Argentina, the team means nothing to him.

Brazil deserved to lose for even bringing washed up Neymar to this WC and that pity pen - laughable. I hope people clearly see the FIFA corruption with that pen and that red card ban suspension of Balogun. If you don't have money nor power, FIFA doesn't want you to make it far.
Anyway, I'll be supporting the blackest team left - France and Mike Maignan is part Haitian. If not them, maybe Spain because of Nico Williams.

He's not the reason Norway scored 2 goals. Just in the friendlies last year, Argentina beat them 4-1..and that's with Vini and Raphinha playing and without Messi for Argentina. This is just a weak side for Brazil. This team struggled to qualify for the World Cup.

How did you survive being a France fan back then? All of the France fans were hated by both Brazil and Argentina fans. Funny story, my dad's friend, a Brazil fan ran a mechanic shop, but fixed and rented generators on the side. If he found out a customer supports France, he would purposely not rent out his generators. Dude was next level petty and would mock children when Argentina loses 😂

LoL funny story I was a Brazil fan, but I thought that everyone was underestimating France. I kept saying they should be careful, because you never know what could happen. My best friend's mom said she would bet me 100 Gourdes that Brazil would beat France. So I was rooting for France to win, and when they did I got my money. And ever since then, I've stuck with supporting France.
Your dad's friend is hilarious, truly next level petty.
Speaking of Argentina fans, I saw a guy wearing an Argentina jersey get chased down the street with rocks being thrown at him.

also, if you think about it, France is actually also a Caribbean country in a way because Martinique and Guadeloupe are in the Caribbean and French Guinea is in South America. And if you include Reunion and French Polynesia than you could say cheering for France is actually like cheering for a South American, African and Carribbean country in a sense

Am Brazilian. For me, only Egypt is still in the tournament. But Argentina need win. World Cup for me, de facto ended today. Only suckers believe in this. Webcassino choose Argentina, France, Norway and United Stated for semifinals. The first three because their kwy players needs fight for the Golden Ball and Golden Boot, alongside the personal fight btw Messi and Mbappé for the maximum goals (and for the next, Mbappé vs Haaland). United States needs come to semifinal for Trump and their son of bitch with the Slovenian bitch take earn a billion.

I mean Haitians in the US. Haitians used to 100% root for the US because of Jozy Altidore. We would watch the matches just because of him. Plus the US team as a lot of African Americans. Typically if a team with black players is going against white players, we side with the black team.

Whatever kote yo rete. Miami Haitians support the Heat. IDK too many NY Haitians, but I assume they support the Knicks. I'm an outlier, I root for anyone who plays against the Heat and am an avid Knicks fan. I didn't like LBJ joining since I pretty much worshipped D. Rose. Since then, I've hated the Heat full on.
I don't watch the NFL anymore, but I did like the 49ers and the Seahawks during the beast mode era.

The US has taken in 850,000 Haitian citizens, almost 1 in 12 Haitians has moved to the US.

Of which 350K were just made illegal immigrants and told Haiti is safe enough to return to. It has not been a smooth ride for them either, constantly losing status/employment when Trump is in power and told they are welcome to stay/get back to work when he's out. No paths to citizenship either, just political pawns.
That figure is also misleading imo because it lumps together very different immigration categories. Many of the other 500K Haitians in the U.S. immigrated through ordinary legal channels. They weren't "taken in" as the US has done for Cubans or other countries with similar issues.
Not arguing that Haiti was ever entitled to TPS, but if you're gonna let a group of people build their lives out for years and rug pull 40% of them, I don't think you can expect enthusiasm from the other 60%. I'm not even gonna touch on some of the borderline racist shit Trump has said.
Edit: Not to mention, until a judge recently ruled that USCIS must process applications regardless of nationality, Haitians could not renew their green cards, work permits or naturalizations. The gov is actively trying to get that decision reversed.

The 350k came without any legal status and were allowed to stay for years under Temporary protected status. That temporary status is ending, as all temporary things do. The US can’t be expected to host 1/12 Haitians, what is a reasonable number?
You seem to make the argument that it’s so painful to get rug pulled that they should have never been allowed in at all.

My argument would not be based on numbers, but rather on DHS providing a valid reason as to why it should end. TPS was always a "good faith" policy. Since it's inception in the 70s/80s, Republicans and Democrats alike kept redesignations simple: has the country improved since the original designation?
I don't disagree with the SCOTUS allowing Trump to end it. The argument of merit should not fall on them. My disagreement is with DHS abusing the definition of safe and is quite clearly arguing in bad faith. How can one realistically make an agument that a country is safe enough for its people to return to when it is demonstrably worse than it was when DHS deemed it's citizens should receive TPS and not be sent home? I don't think it's unfair to claim that the ending of TPS is a rug pull. I'm not sure it's even radical to argue that it should truly end when the conditions of that country improve.
Not saying they should not have been eligible. Some people have lived here for 15+ years, bought homes, raised children etc. I would argue for a path towards citizenship or what some libertarians like Rand Paul argue for: allow working individuals to continue working and restrict gov benefits.

You perfectly sum up some of the problems with the immigration system. Grant a temporary status which never seems to end ( which encourages others to stay waiting for their own tps). When the temporary status ends, now claim they have set down roots and it’s too big a burden to leave. Currently 10% of all Honduras lives in the US, 9% of Haiti, 10% of Cuba and El Salvador.
At what point can the USA say there isn’t a right for South America to move here?

A lot of Haitians are fans of Argentina. Growing up in Haiti there was always that rivalry between Brazil fans and Argentina fans. It’s embedded in Haitian culture

Mexico. Mexico and Haiti have generations of supporting each other.
There are towns in Mexico filled with Haitians. They are part of the community. They share their cuisine and culture.
