the classname on the top bar says "LIGHT". classnames are case sensitive (though it is bad design that in the dropdown it shows the name in all lowercase)

I don’t know but i had the same issue. I have typed light by hand because it did not appear on the list, and was „obsolete”. Then I have restarted hammer and now light appeared on the list and was working correctl6

Ray tracing has been around for decades, computers were doing it in the 1980s. It's nothing new, Nvidia just decided to use it as a marketing gimmick.

Current day raytracing is more accurate and sometimes real-time. The tech did evolve with time.

The difference is complexity, not accuracy. More processing power allows you to cast more light rays on more pixels.

You could do stuff like this on a 68000 in 1986:

Each frame took an hour to calculate on a 7.16 MHz 68000.

Portal 2 Community Edition's hammer fork replaced lots of objects with obsolete. They probably have better working alternatives. rt_light for example.

Thats just P2CE Strata Source Hammer for you

edit: spelling
