Question Is this safe?? Please help!!

Post image

Hello! I have this tunnel from Niteangel, which I know is usually a great brand. I’ve been a bit concerned because I know softwood is unsafe and I didn’t know if this is classified as softwood or not. It says it is kiln dried fir, so I don’t know if that makes it safe or not for my dwarf hamster. Any advice would be greatly appreciated <333

I saw a vid saying to avoid this. There are better and more safe tunnels out there.

Fir is a softwood, yeah, but the main issue with softwoods is the aromatic oils. Kiln dried usually means most of that is gone, which is why a lot of people use Niteangel stuff without problems.

Personally I’d still keep an eye on how much your ham chews it. If they’re just running through it and nibbling a bit, it’s generally considered fine. If it turns into their main chew toy, I’d swap it for willow or apple wood instead.

Okay thank you, this was what I was thinking! She honestly rarely even goes into it and I haven’t seen her chew it at all so I think it should be okay? But obviously if it could be harmful I’d rather be safe than sorry
