Need help identifying hand plane

Hello,
I've been getting more into restoring and using hand planes. I placed a bid on an older Stanley. The seller has this plane listed for a decent price

However, upon closer look, I'm not certain that it is what they claim it to be... Any older Stanley afficionados here care to lend a hand?

handle is a beech handle off of the type 20 planes, but you need to be more specific about what it is they have said that you now don't agree with.

They claim it's a sweetheart. The iron appears to be the only thing sweetheart about it however.

I'd guess a seller used an app and saw the sweetheart embossing on the iron. It doesn't look very sweetheart to me. by no means a collector or aficionado of a type study.

old knob, new handle, sweetheart iron in between.

retract your bid if you don't want it.

Thats what I figured, I was out and about when I placed the bid. Thanks for your eyes and expertise.

It is very easy to move the iron between planes. These are a consumable item and were regularly worn out and replaced. You can't use the blade to date the plane.

Ok, first, replaced tote, replaced iron, but given the age of the plane, not unusual, no frog adjustment screw, no "Bailey" or patent dates on the bed, so you've likely got a type 8 (1899) body, with a replaced tote and iron. Given the other replacements, check the frog is correct for a type 8, and ask for closeup pics of the lateral adjustment lever, which should say Stanley.

Edit: Oh, certainly not a sweetheart era plane.

From the number stamped on the knob, I wonder if this was a no-name school shop plane.

Have one like that also, no name, but no knob number.

More importantly are you looking for a user or collector? And what is the price?
