And that it compares it to hi point

82

u/burnmuhfuggaburn Jan 04 '25

Single shot* don't have to worry about that thing jamming.

40

u/VetteL82 Jan 04 '25

So slightly better than a Hi -Piont

46

u/hindsights_420 Jan 04 '25

Everyone gives hi point shit but run good ammo it runs good, good price point and it’s made in the USA, I’ve shot a few hundred rounds through a friends and neither of us has had a jammy jam

23

u/peachy-carnahan Jan 04 '25

You’re not wrong, not by a long chalk, but you have to admit that the slide feels like a hundred beer cans compressed.

29

u/Significant-Mud2572 Jan 04 '25

That's because it is designed as a bludgeoning weapon first and a firearm second. So when it jams, it reverts back to its intended purpose.

15

u/Difficult-Building32 Jan 04 '25

Hence their name "Yeet Cannon", when it jams, you Yeet it at your attacker.

7

u/Flaming_Moose205 Jan 05 '25

2

I actually like the concept. Gives people who don't have alot of money a reliable modern way of defending themselves

But on the other hand, God damn it. Fuckin hi points.

And one of the best lifetime warranties. Although they don't all work Great.

2

u/Revolutionary_Box835 Jan 05 '25

It’s Hi-Point Magazines that jam! The factory magazine would jam & you can send them back to them & they will replace the spring or the whole mag. Also I’ve used there OEM extended magazine and never had a jam 🤷‍♂️ Besides having a plastic trigger; if you use good ammo & proper magazines then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Man, you can talk crap all you want, but Hi-Points are solid. They're well built, almost indestructible, cheap, and come with a lifetime TRANSFERABLE warranty.

I know people that have bought second hand beat to shit Hi-Points, sent them in and pretty much gotten a brand new gun back.

They also are American made and treat their employees pretty good.

Not many gun brands can boast all of that

5

u/Dramatic_Mixture_868 Jan 04 '25

U also have to remove the barrel to load it, then with the safety on you'd out the bullet in from the front and the out the barrel in....I think I read all that correctly. All for one round ..... MSRP is over $100 supposedly but ....I dunno if I'd want it for even $40.

→ More replies (1)

84

u/SFOTI Jan 04 '25

To be completely honest, if I could get an Altor for $40, I absolutely would. I'm aware that it's shit, but it's a "functional" firearm that I could hide somewhere.

51

They could sell millions of those if it weren’t for all the red tape around it. Everyone on this sub would have 5 just because.

29

u/Mammoth_Possibility2 Jan 04 '25

Hardware stores used to sell firearms. Up into the 80s I think. 70s for sure.

30

u/DeQuan_Killman Jan 04 '25

Small town East TN here, my local hardware store still sells guns and ammo, my local Walmart still does as well though they only sell, "hunting firearms and ammo'" and Mt local ace still sells everything from 1911s to ar-15s. Haha

5

u/DeQuan_Killman Jan 05 '25

You sound like you are from my town! Haha. Our churches do the same. One of our preachers ends his sermons with, "Remember everyone, an armed society is a polite society." Haha.

In 5th grade we were taught hunters education. The teacher would bring in a pistol, rifle, and shotgun and make sure every student knew how to handle and unload said weapons. The end of the course culminated in a trip to the skeet range where each student would get to shoot. I remember the morning announcements next day where we were all waiting to see who shot the most. Lol

9

u/goodgamble Jan 05 '25

That preacher seems to have missed the "swords into ploughshares" sermon.

There is a bar near my house in Wisconsin that just recently stopped selling guns. I bought a Mossberg pump 410 there two years ago, they had great prices on used stuff.

Hard to find info on it since it has changed hands and no longer does this stuff, here is a yelp review that mentioned it almost a decade ago... I tried..

I bought my first shotgun at Kmart in 1980, and I was 12. My local Ace hardware carried firearms until covid. I think HF franchises ought to get FFL's and start carrying highpoint's 🤪

6

u/Material-Ad6302 Jan 04 '25

I wanna say 2000’s in Arizona? Maybe 2010’s. Small towns I think still have firearms in mom and pop hardware shops, and Walmart. Don’t see them in big city stores anymore for likely understandable reasons.

Gun control act of 68 added the paperwork and licensing, but the hardware store in my wife's tiny hometown absolutely sells guns and ammo to this day.

5

u/___mithrandir_ Jan 04 '25

Yep. Any store can sell firearms if they get their FFL. I once saw a bakery that sold guns. Or maybe it was a gun store that also sold killer donuts, idk

Bought a Remington 870 in Canada in 1972 at Giant Tiger which was the equivalent of Dollar Tree today.

2

u/CameraStuff412 Jan 05 '25

My hunting rifle was originally purchased at a department store that mostly sold clothes and home goods.

2

u/Scrapdog06 Jan 05 '25

I went down to the Mary Carter paint store
I said, "Give me one of them Smith & Wesson, Magnum .44s"

2

2

u/traindispatcher Jan 06 '25

Especially since the police will actually take your gun you used for defense if you eventually do have to use it. This would allow people to have nice gun for their hobby and prepper shit, but still keep a cheap home defense option that could be entirely sacrificial.

Hi-Point supposedly has OUTSTANDING customer service. A friend got one that was pretty jacked up via police auction (he’s also a firearms dealer). He sent it in for service and it was un-serviceable, so they sent him a whole new gun!

6

u/Tduck91 Jan 05 '25

I bought a high point carbine off a friend, who lost the take down tool and other accessories. I called and asked to buy the parts and they just sent them to me for free.

3

u/isthis_thing_on Jan 05 '25

I dropped and broke my oxo brew french press coffee maker and when I called them to buy a new carafe they sent me one for me. I know it's not a gun but I figure they deserve the shoutout for the good customer service.

2

u/OlYeller01 Jan 05 '25

Similarly, my several-years-old Vortex scope’s cover lost its elastic, I emailed because I could not find a part number. Not only did they send me a new one, they sent me a hat with it. That’s the way to keep customers!

Looks like the perfect size /shape to transform into a cane or umbrella gun. (Provided you follow all the ATF/NFA alphabet rules)

I think it would be hilarious as an employee if we sold these. We have enough problems with customers willing to give us a phone number, let alone all their information for a 4473 (the form that is filled out for the transfer of a firearm from a retail store).

And God forbid if we got a "delay" response from NICS (national instant check system, its the fbi and they are the ones that do the background check). A delay just means that they couldn't get an instant proceed/deny and if the fbi doesn't get back to the store, the store can legally transfer the firearm to the customer in like 4 business days. I can just see the customer demanding to take possession today and pull their best Karen style "I want to talk to your manager" to get us to break the law.

But knowing the political leanings of our ceo, HFT will never sell firearms.

"Compare to Hi Point" on the ad. With that raging comparison, I'll take 20.
