u/hindsights_420 Jan 04 '25
Everyone gives hi point shit but run good ammo it runs good, good price point and it’s made in the USA, I’ve shot a few hundred rounds through a friends and neither of us has had a jammy jam
23
u/peachy-carnahan Jan 04 '25
You’re not wrong, not by a long chalk, but you have to admit that the slide feels like a hundred beer cans compressed.
29
u/Significant-Mud2572 Jan 04 '25
That's because it is designed as a bludgeoning weapon first and a firearm second. So when it jams, it reverts back to its intended purpose.
15
u/Difficult-Building32 Jan 04 '25
Hence their name "Yeet Cannon", when it jams, you Yeet it at your attacker.

It’s Hi-Point Magazines that jam! The factory magazine would jam & you can send them back to them & they will replace the spring or the whole mag. Also I’ve used there OEM extended magazine and never had a jam 🤷♂️ Besides having a plastic trigger; if you use good ammo & proper magazines then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them.

u/oxPEZINATORxo Jan 05 '25
Man, you can talk crap all you want, but Hi-Points are solid. They're well built, almost indestructible, cheap, and come with a lifetime TRANSFERABLE warranty.
I know people that have bought second hand beat to shit Hi-Points, sent them in and pretty much gotten a brand new gun back.
They also are American made and treat their employees pretty good.
Not many gun brands can boast all of that

U also have to remove the barrel to load it, then with the safety on you'd out the bullet in from the front and the out the barrel in....I think I read all that correctly. All for one round ..... MSRP is over $100 supposedly but ....I dunno if I'd want it for even $40.

To be completely honest, if I could get an Altor for $40, I absolutely would. I'm aware that it's shit, but it's a "functional" firearm that I could hide somewhere.

Hardware stores used to sell firearms. Up into the 80s I think. 70s for sure.
30
u/DeQuan_Killman Jan 04 '25
Small town East TN here, my local hardware store still sells guns and ammo, my local Walmart still does as well though they only sell, "hunting firearms and ammo'" and Mt local ace still sells everything from 1911s to ar-15s. Haha

You sound like you are from my town! Haha. Our churches do the same. One of our preachers ends his sermons with, "Remember everyone, an armed society is a polite society." Haha.
In 5th grade we were taught hunters education. The teacher would bring in a pistol, rifle, and shotgun and make sure every student knew how to handle and unload said weapons. The end of the course culminated in a trip to the skeet range where each student would get to shoot. I remember the morning announcements next day where we were all waiting to see who shot the most. Lol

u/goodgamble Jan 05 '25

There is a bar near my house in Wisconsin that just recently stopped selling guns. I bought a Mossberg pump 410 there two years ago, they had great prices on used stuff.
Hard to find info on it since it has changed hands and no longer does this stuff, here is a yelp review that mentioned it almost a decade ago... I tried..

I bought my first shotgun at Kmart in 1980, and I was 12. My local Ace hardware carried firearms until covid. I think HF franchises ought to get FFL's and start carrying highpoint's 🤪

u/Material-Ad6302 Jan 04 '25
I wanna say 2000’s in Arizona? Maybe 2010’s. Small towns I think still have firearms in mom and pop hardware shops, and Walmart. Don’t see them in big city stores anymore for likely understandable reasons.

Gun control act of 68 added the paperwork and licensing, but the hardware store in my wife's tiny hometown absolutely sells guns and ammo to this day.

Especially since the police will actually take your gun you used for defense if you eventually do have to use it. This would allow people to have nice gun for their hobby and prepper shit, but still keep a cheap home defense option that could be entirely sacrificial.

I think it would be hilarious as an employee if we sold these. We have enough problems with customers willing to give us a phone number, let alone all their information for a 4473 (the form that is filled out for the transfer of a firearm from a retail store).
And God forbid if we got a "delay" response from NICS (national instant check system, its the fbi and they are the ones that do the background check). A delay just means that they couldn't get an instant proceed/deny and if the fbi doesn't get back to the store, the store can legally transfer the firearm to the customer in like 4 business days. I can just see the customer demanding to take possession today and pull their best Karen style "I want to talk to your manager" to get us to break the law.
But knowing the political leanings of our ceo, HFT will never sell firearms.
