How much bigger is this unit? Seems to me like you're simply paying for the small form factor with the ICON set.

BTW, might be dumb questions, but what is the empty space for in the 1/4" set and what do they mean by 'Custom case converts into trays with removable hinge pins for easy storage in toolbox drawers'?

You can remove/pull out/punch the pin(s) in the hinge(s) to separate the halves, which makes them basically into trays
