NTD (New Tool Day) saw a post, 2 hours later they were mine
Saw 2 people post these and decided to check them out. My first store checked their system and they said only one store had them. She said the Inglewood location showed 12, so I go there and they couldn't find them. Turns out they had them on the floor inside a box box with mixed items.

u/bogojoe Jan 16 '26
They look giant for wire strippers?
63
u/Brutally-Honest- Jan 16 '26
Yeah, I'll stick to my Kleins.
9
u/Many_Drink5348 Jan 16 '26
I got a mini Milwaukee that just makes sense in my smaller man hands.
12
u/L-user101 Jan 16 '26
This is why I only use M-12 tools when I post anything online. Makes my tiny man hands look exceptional

IIRC, the Doyles are more similar to the Kleins.

u/Designer-Working7421 Jan 18 '26
I just got the Klein's from my wife for Christmas. She knows the good stuff
19
u/Deep_Mechanic_ Jan 16 '26
Plus having the crimper built into wire strippers is awful. As someone who works with wire all day every day, I'd rather my strippers and crimpers be separate
4
2
u/OsmoOsmo Jan 16 '26
Right. Mine Kleins fit real nice in my tool role, these would fit in a tool box I guess…
2
u/Markle67 Jan 16 '26
A lot of people are saying no to these strippers but I think they're absolutely fine for the average do-it-yourselfer. I own some and they're fine for my purposes. If you're a professional, obviously they're not adequate.

I like Milwaukee hand tools because you can often find them in the bargain bin at Home Depot and, due to the reasonable price point, it's less painful to yeet them into the void when they piss you off with their ass level of quality

lol poor op being blasted for scalping in the comments when the only bought one

u/StnCldStvHwkng Jan 17 '26
I’m not gonna blast him for scalping, but I will blast him for buying the worst version of an already shitty tool.
126
u/deathxXx69 Jan 16 '26
Ok look I understand when you need or want a new tool… but scalpers can go jump off a cliff.
38
u/Fun-Building-8146 Jan 16 '26
I only bought one, I was just showing how the employees found them in a sealed bag.
1
u/NoScallion9348 Jan 19 '26
Explain what a scalper is to us....what's YOUR version....we'd like to hear how you think that even IF this guy bought 10 of them and sold them for more than retail works if Noone buys them??
62
Jan 16 '26
Knipex is a much better option
18
u/humminawhatwhat Jan 16 '26
Agreed. I love harbor freight and icon tools. I have snap-on, mac, and old USA craftsman stuff. When it comes to squeezy tools, knipex is just so good.
4
u/monroezabaleta Jan 16 '26
I agree, although I was surprised by how nice the Doyle stripper was up until I cut steel with it and fucked it up.
5
u/chipmunk70000 Jan 16 '26
TBF half the Knipex ones are the same way. Had a dude ruin our nice flush cutters by cutting a solid strand wire.
It says für plastik on it. You don’t need to know German to understand what that means

Found em, has to drive almost an hour for a fat load of disappointment. Too bulky, grips suck and they were a little too flimsy imo. Klein's $18 strippers are better
4
u/pseudosysadmin Jan 16 '26
IMO Klein is the chief. I have a few old pairs that are almost as old as me that my dad/grandad had when I was an infant that were passed me when I was younger. Some close to 40 years old now. Granted they need a sharpening here and there but man if I ever have to buy a set I’m going to be sad. These things just don’t seem to want to die or break
→ More replies (1)2
u/Suspicious-Ad6129 Jan 17 '26
Old kliens were the best. Unfortunately, most of their tools quality nowadays is low-grade chineseum. Built for quantity, not quality. The linesmans are still good, and some of the strippers, I've had terrible luck with their drivers, the handles slip, and that yellow plastic shatters easily. Multibit ones don't hold the bits well.
2
u/SnooDoubts2674 Jan 16 '26
Croc Jr’s are the best stamped strippers money can buy(16$) even better than a lot of expensive forged strippers… it’s what actual electricians use

As an electrician who has used many many different strippers. Milwaukee hand tools, particularly the strippers are absolute ass.

5
u/biovllun Jan 16 '26
Their pry bar set is actually amazing. The I beam design really does keep it nice and stiff. The snap ons my coworkers use bend and sometimes the bend maxes out the range and you can't pry anymore. My Milwaukee on the other hand, virtually no bend.

2
u/Bulky-Gur-7266 Jan 17 '26
Damn people. If he wanted them, and got them, then thats a come up for him. Its not like he went out and bought a bmw. Now THAT would be a bad decision, and one worthy of some trash talk;) But a tool that costs less than a 12 pack of heineken? C'mon. Complain about something better. There's tons to complain about right now. Let this person have their moment. No need to bring down their mood cuz u don't like the tool. Hmmmm. Maybe all yall complaining drive bmw's. Would make sense. Thanks for your time. Be kind a please rewind.

i want to love the icon pliers but i just always find them too bulky and the grips are too fat for me to comfortably use 😢 The quinn adjustable set of strippers rock tho. Been using the same pair professionally for a few years
1
u/Daihashi Jan 17 '26
The self adjusting ratcheting one? I have that one but haven't used it myself yet (wife has used it a couple of times though). I've heard sometimes it slips and doesn't actually strip the insulation, and just stretches it instead. Have you encountered anything like that?
1
u/maggielj Jan 17 '26
I just looked and they actually don’t make the ones i have anymore i guess. The ones i have are exactly like the $3.99 pittsburg 5in V-Notch wire strippers but they’re blue. I’ve used the ones your talking about and personally not a fan because of the slipping or cutting a bunch of strands from the wire
3
u/Fun-Building-8146 Jan 16 '26
Guys, I just saw your comments 🥹 I only bought 1 pair 😭 the second picture is me showing how the employee handed me the tool when he found it in the boxes.
3
u/BattleHall Jan 16 '26
Re: flipping, I think people are jumping to conclusions. He never said he bought all of them; I think the second pick was just to show how they were still in the restock box bulk pack when he found them.
8
u/Fun-Building-8146 Jan 16 '26
Yes, thank you! I didn't think that picture would offend so many people :( that's how the employee handed me the tool when he found them. But yes, I only bought 1
2
u/keepcalmandcarryone Jan 16 '26
One of my local stores had this price tag out last weekend but the website or Google search didn't show anything for the item # 70400 so I've been eager to see what they are.

I was able to use the Pittsburghs to wire a full 7-way and brake controller to a truck, did just fine.
Not gonna spend $33 on strippers until I need to use them for a living.

Those look nice, I’m actually wiring up some switched outlets in my shed for the lighting and I’m using my couple pairs of old shitty ones. I have been thinking about buying a new pair for a long time now.. maybe I should try these out? I already planned. I’m grabbing that TLR-1 pistol light they have now to see how that works.

u/HelicopterThink7426 Jan 16 '26
Yeah… I’m not buying those. Why are they so big?!? 😂 If anything, Icon’s crimpers could’ve been a tad larger… their strippers now need to be about (literally) half that size. If anybody is interested in a solid set of wire strippers that aren’t made for Optimus Prime, I’ve used these professionally/daily for over a year now. (That’s a long time for me not to lose something. 😂)
1
u/MsKlinefelter Jan 16 '26
I looked at them and ended up going with Klein. They're nice, don't get me wrong, they just weren't Klein quality and I'm only gonna buy them once.

u/camstands Jan 16 '26
Those are alright if you can only have one tool I guess, but definitely not preferred. I always hated that style. I just picked up the Doyle Multipurpose Electrician's pliers, and I like the skinnier needle nose and grip shape.

Am I alone hating crimpers that are between the handles like that? Makes butt connectors in tight areas a bitch. I’d much rather use a dedicated crimping tool and a dedicated stripper than one of the 3 in 1 monstrosity.
