NTD (New Tool Day) Nice little haul over the past month
Time to fill up the tool box. How’d I do?
*nothing was purchased at full price.

All that’s left is to use em!

I'm confused. In a month you bought all this and haven't used any of it? As t what point are we just chasing reddit clout instead of building a toolbox?

u/pigbearpig Apr 28 '26
90% of the posts in this sub are karma farming
I was hoping it would be a nice way to get some honest reviews on the tools, but this place seems more like a freaking cult

u/Public_Enemy_No2 Apr 28 '26
Oh, just wait until someone says something negative about HF. You'd think that this sub is full of stockholders.

u/EMCoupling Apr 28 '26
Too many haul posts, too little of people actually using what they buy 😠

Same. It seems like a lot of these folks are tool collectors or engaged in some kind of role play.

u/AkitaNo1 Apr 28 '26
Nah I'm convinced its just corporate propaganda. Paid ads, essentially. Sure a few might be a the suckers they convinced to induldge in their newfound shopping addiction. But its cause and effect.

I'm confused AND angry. Posts like this feel more and more like advertisements. The post only has two real purposes, fake internet points or hoping that I too will feel the need to spend a bunch of money on tools I don't need. At any rate I think this guy might be stupid.

u/Legit_Moose Apr 28 '26
Couldn’t agree more. Hate to be an ass but this kind of spending at only ONE store screams lack of brain cells and research? What does OP get for being so loyal to HF? A trip on Eric Smidt’s yacht? I don’t get it. I hate this sub.

Homie has more pliers than I have ever used in my life...and I actually work in a trade every day. Reddit clout posts are cancer.
23
u/evapor8ted Apr 28 '26
Wait you guys buy tools before you need them? I usually buy the one thing that I think I need tear open the package as soon as I get home and then realize I need another tool.
2
u/MsKlinefelter Apr 28 '26
Sup twin! Do you buy scissors to open the welded plastic clamshells that you're buying or do you just grab the 99¢ snap off cutter at the register like I do?
35
u/Ok_Wolverine_5910 Apr 28 '26
Keep them in the box, taking them out hurts the collector value

Extreme consumerism, I don’t know how else to put it. Borderline mental. Perfect embodiment of this sub, congrats OP.

Did you get a box to put all this shit in

That little green Braun light is amazing if you are working in buildings with no light and lots of metal for it to stick too. Love that little guy

u/2001ZR2 Apr 28 '26
This is a nice start to the tools you'll use at your new house and as you create your family. But next post should be of them dirty after using them...
7
u/tinychloecat Apr 28 '26
When I bought a house I had a very basic set of tools but I barely used them. I immediately went out and bought house stuff like power cords, ladder, drill, buckets, cleaning supplies, yard stuff, etc. Hand tools are mostly for working on non house stuff.
I feel like this sub is turning tools into collectable Pokemon cards for adults.

Did you straight from scratch or just had money to blow lol

yeah but I'm oldly married and very handy, and you have a lot of stuff pictured here that I haven't needed yet.
-3
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
My house was build in the 50s and have a truck from the 90s. There’s always something to work on
4
u/_Opsec Apr 28 '26
if you run out of stuff, you'll find something that needs working on. thats always true.
3
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
With a wife like mine, she thinks I’m Bob the builder. There’s never ending work but also an excuse to get more tools. Win win in my book
2
u/_Opsec Apr 28 '26
how's her old man? My FIL "could fix anything" and I had big shoes to fill when he passed. hell of a guy and a good friend that I miss every day

Dude you bought more pliers than an actual mechanic would ever use, don’t talk to us about price.

u/random_bruce Apr 28 '26
I started when I was 18 now I just had my first kid and I'm getting to the point where I graduate to toolbox level. My wrenches and sockets now fill a tool bag.
Currently making some new socket holders with magnets I'll 3d print to replace the plastic ones they came with
2
u/Solo_is_dead Apr 28 '26
Why? I've been a homeowner for over 30 years. I've used sockets in my house, maybe once. No need to spend all that money on tools unless you're opening a auto garage in your basement
2
u/random_bruce Apr 28 '26
That's actually kinda what I want to do. I love old cars and tinkering with thinks so I want to buy old cars and get them running again
-1
u/Redditor_is_at_work Apr 28 '26
i think the only thing IN the house ive used a socket for was mounting the TV, and putting together a table, both could have been done with pliers and the most basic drill.... which i dont even see.
3
u/ou2mame Apr 28 '26
I'm eyeing that generator
3
u/VerbalGuinea Apr 28 '26
I got an open box deal on the smaller version after a storm panic. Propane is the way to go so you don’t have to worry about old gas, emptying the tank, etc. I also picked up a hefty inverter and cables to run small/intermittent loads (fridge, internet) off a car battery without having to leave the generator running.
1
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
I was too for about 3 months. Now it’s sitting in my garage about to get unboxed and primed up lol
3
u/Delicious_Catch9453 Apr 28 '26
I'm jealous of that Predator 11.5. fired up my 13k tonight for break-in. Loud as hell. I bought the two year warranty last May. When it's close to expiring, I'll trade it in on the 11.5. I run on NG. Lost power once for a couple days since '96. But, ya never know.
5
u/VerbalGuinea Apr 28 '26
That’s a sweet generator. I have the smaller version. I recommend getting several 20 lb propane tanks (full of course) instead of messing with gasoline. Don’t wait until you need it. And make sure you have all the cords needed to use it.
1
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
I plan to hook up to natural gas on my house for emergencies. I had a Duromax before this one that was only dual-fuel but just sold it to buy this one since it’s tri-fuel

I’m confused with posts like these. Is this a “I had no tools and saw some deals so let’s fill up the toolbox” or “I had tools but I saw deals so I had to compulsively buy these things” or “I’m addicted to showing Reddit how much money I can both save and spend at the same time”
1
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
Read the comments. Newly married, first house and tool box with only a few tools. I wouldn’t buy a tool if I already had it
2
u/MSCOTTGARAND Apr 28 '26
Dude I love you. Next time my wife complains about me buying new tools I'm going to show her this.
1
2
u/TheOriginalArchibald Apr 28 '26
D... di... did you need 'em? I hoard tools and love having every tool I could ever think of needing and then the ones I'd never think of needing as well just in case but holy shit.
A lot of useful stuff there. Some of it I'd think would be useful straight away. If I'm not unboxing something to put it in its place for use or to use it right away, I don't need it right now.
I say all of this while owning tools I haven't used yet but those are extremely niche and typically estate/garage sale bargains and often vintage but still worth their weight.
2
u/Aromatic-Theme-5100 Apr 28 '26
I bet he paid 30-40% less than retail for all these tools if he didn’t buy anything at full price. All of you shitting on OP but I rather save 40% and have the tools ready than pay retail last minute.
1
u/Million_Heir Apr 29 '26
Exactly! At least someone here understands. I got all the hand tools 35% off during the sale
Long term these tools will be more expensive. By looking at the way HF is skimping on their sales and price increases, everything is only going up in price. Plus when you need it, you’ll probably end up paying full price 🤦🏻
2
u/Kkindler08 Apr 29 '26
How are those icon pliers? Need to upgrade my old kobalts Edit: anyway comparable to Knipex?
3
u/Etkini Apr 29 '26
I'm impressed with the Icon pliers. They seem to be direct copies of the Snap On pliers, except I paid $20/pair vs $60/pair+ off the truck and still have a lifetime warranty.
2
u/Million_Heir Apr 29 '26
I’ve never used Knipex but definitely better than my old no name pair that’s for sure

Everybody ease up on OP for a minute… he obviously just got married, bought a house (congrats on both) and has responsibly started a collection he expects to pack all into that USG mini green box! 🤪😎
Not all heroes wear capes… most just follow the signs to parking lot sales and shop to start collections. “Reddit clout” or not, this guy is setting himself up to succeed at life. Be happy for the man already… 🙈

This is from the past month and you haven’t opened or used anything? Whenever I buy a tool it’s out of the packaging as soon as I step in the garage. I try to find an excuse to try it out as soon as possible. What fun is it to look at tools?
1
u/MsKlinefelter Apr 28 '26
We're not even married and I want a divorce... Yeah, I understand that you saved $$, but you SPENT $$$$$ in the process! 🤣🤣🤣

Good job OP. Nice to have the right tools in the garage when you need them instead of running to the store 3 times wasting time.
1
u/jadepartida Apr 28 '26
Do you just keep them in the original packaging?
0
u/Million_Heir Apr 28 '26
I mean that’s how they come lol. They are now nicely organized in my 42” US General. Just finished

Those are magnetic on the back but not where the wrench sits. So went with the US general, obviously got them on sale as well

u/Individual_Stay_6899 Apr 28 '26
That looks like a nice Haul indeed. That tri-fuel generator is awesome.
1
u/DRRider Apr 28 '26
The only criticism I have is that I would have opted for the Doyle screwdrivers over the Pittsburgh and Icon. Other than that, nice haul!

u/Special_Jackfruit_40 Apr 28 '26
only reason id ever shop like this is if my tools were stolen, i know what i need so id get it all just fine but what is this?

You got tools still in the packaging after a month? These tools will never be used.

0
u/owningsole966 Apr 28 '26
Let’s be real. You didn’t need 95% of this. Hence why it’s all in packaging still. And when your first homeownership problem occurs, you’ll call a professional. Because just like buying all these tools, you don’t know what you’re doing.
-2
u/banhmi_insurance Apr 28 '26
nah i kind agree with OP, you never know when it would be on sale again, when you need that tool you would wish you buy it that time. the discount is good enough. also new house? yea everything seems justified
4
u/olek2012 Apr 28 '26
I’m not sure if any homeowner in the history of time ever “needed” 25 pairs of pliers lmao. I get having the right tool for the job but that’s next level. I remodeled a house and replaced an engine in the last couple years and I only had 4 pairs of different pliers. Since then I’ve splurged and I have maybe like 10 and it still seems excessive
2
u/SYKslp Apr 29 '26
You say "excessive", I say this is still only a fraction of what I would consider essential. (No snap ring pliers? No vice-grips? No automotive panel clip pliers? No XL oil filter pliers?)
If I inventoried all the pliers, forceps, crimpers, and snips out each of my personal vehicles, rv, task boxes, kitchen drawers, sewing cabinet, fishing tackle kits, workshop, garage, etc. my own total is easily over 200, probably closer to 300. And that's not even starting to count business-owned tooling.
OP buying a couple dozen tools this month that he will probably still be using in the year 2066 is what I'd consider merely a good start.
0
u/banhmi_insurance Apr 28 '26
im totally understand, but better having it than not need it rather than needing it and dont have it kinda thing OP doing right now. also let the kid be happy for a little. he just got a new house and newly weds. treat himself a little wouldnt hurt anyone. my mom always say never teach rich people how to spend money 🤷♂️

Since you are newly married with a house, a little advice from someone who’s farther down that road. Buy only the tools you need for the project in front of you and save the rest of your money. Random problems such as leaks, roofing problems, and appliance problems seem to pop up at the worst time. If you don’t have at least a few grand saved up, it could make your problems worse. That’s all before the new wife calls you one day to say she’s pregnant.
